551 yards and 40 points scored and the offense is in a funk?

So we sputtered some in the red zone and had to settle for field goals...big deal...551 yards and 40 points scored...I think some people complain just to hear themselves talk

Or, imagine what happens when we play a team without 1,000 injuries like Maryland had. Oh that's right, that result was last week. Keep guzzling the kool aid gents. By December 1st, you'll all be singing a different tune.

I agree the stats look okay but many are worried about the redzone play, the opponents injury list and the 3 turnovers. Both sides have a point, we ended up having an okay day, but those issues have to be cleaned up if we want to beat better opponents.

day inside the red zone, until boyd starting running. to me, that seemed to open up other options,as well, and we exploded in the 4th qtr. we moved the ball well all day ( except on 2 out of 3 offensive plays to start the 3rd qtr.) we just would misfire inside the 20. it's good to have something to fix, imo. coach'em up!

terrible. Notice the difference in oline blocking in the first 3 qtrs vs the 4th qtr. First 3 qtrs absolutely horrendous blocking and only 1 TD in 4 redzone possession, 4th qtr blocked really good and 3 TD's were easy to score. The turnover situation can be fixed by securing the ball better and choosing spots when to get down and when to push for the extra yard. The rule book makes ref let plays last longer and not to blow the whistle when forward progress is stopped. So defensive players will hold up offensive players longer to strip the ball. That was the case in Watkins fumble, and a number of our other fumbles the past 4 games.

If it took Mike Tyson (in his prime) 12 rounds to knock out my 85 year old grandfather, I'd say he was in a funk, even if he won every round and finished with a spectacular knockout.
I know that is an extreme example, but we were thinking of ourselves as a National Championship contender until 1 week ago, while Maryland is not a very good football team right now.

I'm sorry, I'm from Alabama so I'm totally subjected to the hammer bunch each day and because I love football and they all know I'm a Clemson fan, we all talk a lot. I can say totally, we never were in the NC hunt, look at Alabamas team on TV. They are so much better than everyone else it's not fair, I hate it, but it's true. I love Clemson, was born there 53 years ago, but I'm afraid while we are better, we aren't there yet. I like being able to win 10 games or better each year, and see us doing better each year with the good recruiting we do. Just my opinion

FSU, Oregon, and Alabama have separated themselves from the rest of the top ten. Nothing wrong with being a top ten team.

Boyd, because of injury was the main cause. Just look at how easy we scored when he was turned loose in the 4th quarter.

going to run our RB inside, , anyone will stop it. That applies to most teams who use the read option with great running QBs.
The exceptions of who can run it well without great running QBs are Bama, Wisconsin, and LSU. They rely on play action.
Without Tajh running we're too predictable even if we're playing Citadel or SC State.
Would Oregon be able to line up and run over UMD if they knew the QB wasn't going to run? Interesting question.
My problem with us running that play over and over was Dabo nor Morris seemed to know it.

It's wrong to expect higher levels of performance?

Especially when we are told by coaches and players alike that they are working to be a better, more consistent team, we keep seeing something different.
The reality is that we do have enough talent that we can cover for the lack of precision and bad "rhythm" or "miscommunication" that seems to crop up game after game. The problem is with it uncorrected you get beat to a pulp by teams like FSU. We need confidence we can beat SCar.

is by playing in a BCS bowl. Sorry, but I'm not impressed by SCU's victory over the great pretender Mizzou. On level of toughness I'm rating the GT and SCU games as equal. Only thing last night proved was that the SEC East is still the SEC Least. The SEC east had one good team in UGA, but they had too many injuries. The other 3 teams in the top 4 of the SEC Least, have records that are padded by easy schedules.

A flat performance by the offense with high turnovers (3)

will give both GT and SCar a big advantage over us. Either of those offenses are much tougher to defend than every one else we have played except UGA (then) and FSU. And both of those teams racked up quite a bit of yardage and points, and GT or SCar could too. Our D plays well, but isn't good enough to cover for so many repeated offensive mistakes over a number of possessions like we have seen in the past 3 or 4 games when we play tougher offenses. How close was BC? That offense is not close to SCar or GT even though they are well coached.
I'm not saying any other team we are scheduled to play is as good as FSU. Clearly they aren't. But they are good enough to take advantage of the kinds of mistakes we have been making. It's fixable. Just fix it fer chrissakes and let's move on!

I certainly have reason to be concerned given how our offense sputters. If it were just one game maybe we all just blow it off. But it seems to be the mid-season blues for us for some reason.
And for whatever reason the guys we should beat tend to step up and play some of their best football against us. Certainly NCSU and even more BC fit that category. So, I'll stay a tad worried about GT and more worried about SCar. We can win both easily, especially if the D stays healthy and the coaches and players can finally de-funk the offense.
Like Spurrier says, "I don't know what it is but Clemson never plays well against us...." Let's not repeat that. Let's not play a the same game we did against FSU or MD. At least no turnovers!!

Against a team like Maryland, the offense looks to be in a funk whenever it scores 16 points in the first half, especially with a high caliber offense like ours. We should have put up at least 35 in the first half.

I think a lot of people here appreciate the win but realize there are much tougher matchups that lie ahead. I suppose it's just cautious thinking not to place too much emphasis on the O's performance against a badly-depleted MD team since it's really not a very good measuring stick.
