with, and you're in the process of some work, but you had already provided the needed info? This was an 888-###-#### number and the person could barely speak English but wanted my address, birthday and SS#.
She said she needed to verify my identity to proceed. I said that her number, not a caller ID came up and that I needed more info to verify hers.
I wasn't providing that info over the phone.

Scam. If they're from a company you deal with, they don't need that.

I get calls almost daily "from AT&T" saying they have a better plan. They're updating all their old landline customers to this new plan and just need my approval...blah blah. They then ask for my number. I'm like "you've got that", they then ask for my address, again, YOU HAVE THAT. If you're going to upgrade me to a new service, then just do it, if it's cheaper. Lower my rates. They then ask if I'm authorized to make decisions on the account. YOU HAVE THAT.
I hang up on them. Last thing I always tell them is if they have some great offer, send me a letter, YOU HAVE MY ADDRESS. I will THEN contact you.
Never get a letter.
Oh, and just for reference, YEARS back I bit on one of these calls "from AT&T". Next thing I knew I got a bill from some place called Birch Communications, for more than my AT&T bill.

as documentation that I can read and evaluate. Tell them that I am currently distracted and can't make instant decisions over the phone.
If they won't do that, they don't value me much as a customer.

When that happens to me, I tell them I'll text them the information.
