I get that my job is super cush and great; I work about 4 hours a day and get paid well. But it’s not fulfilling. I had originally wanted to be a teacher but life thrust me into another direction when I had a kid at 23.
So I have a undergrad and a masters and thus I can get a job as long as I pass the history test which can’t be too hard for me. Is this a bad idea? My wife thinks it is but I think she is worried that it’s much less money. I just want to live my dream and I really don’t care about the money w all the assets we have and what I will inherit.
Thoughts Jounge?

My major at chapel hill was American history. Then got a history degree at CofC. It’s a passion for me. I feel like I should pursue it. I had to get my fingerprints taken a few weeks ago to apply. Let’s hope expungement is really expungement

STORY TIME: What'd the fangers get printed for?
Also, teaching sounds like it would svck. History is boring AF. Kids are dipshats.
I think I'd keep slangin wine, banging chicks at the Spinks, and growing weed up in the hills.

I could if I wanted to as I’ve done it in the past and I have a green thumb. Was growing weed since I was an adult.
Second I think the kids would like me as I’m pretty chill and a salesmen. Plus history is interesting as hell.
3rd: I get banging chicks at Spinx sounds fun but I have graduated from that behavior.

What can you coach?
Also the PRAXIS in history one of the highest failure rates because you have to know history (all of it), economics, government, geography, and a little psych and sociology
Or it could have a high failure rate because of all the coaches that take it
Seriously for just a minute Is your masters in history? If so, I would scratch your itch by taking an adjunct job teaching at a tech or community college in the evening at least until you are sure that your dream matches reality.

Seems like a really nice lifestyle. If I had to stay in once place due to kids I might start experimenting with creating my own weed strain. Maybe start building a boat in my backyard kind of like Billy Freeman.

I was lucky Then handful of times they tried to put those kids in my chemistry classes. I reminded them that there was a risk of them burning the school down.
They didn’t believe me until one tried it and poof all the sudden those kids were put in environmental studies with the defensive line coach

You just have to have a graduate degree in your area of teaching and pass the praxis exam. Also no felonies and such which I don’t have. I’m hoping my assault charge that is expunged will not come up.

You just have to have an undergrad degree in the field you want certification. It’s called the PACE program . Program for alternative certification for educators

PACE is a beast. It will be tough for you working full time and doing PACE. Especially the classes over the summer.
Also, kids are ####### awful and the parents are even worse. It's bad. Real bad. Just be prepared because I see a lot of new teachers come in thinking kids are going to be like when they are were in school.
And one more thing, get your certification in Social Studies then as soon as you're in the door, take your math or general science PRAXIS. You CAN NOT find science and math teachers anywhere. You'll be able to pretty much write your own contract and they will leave you alone because they won't be able to replace you.
I can put some more info in Tmail if you want.

Also there aren’t classes in the summer from what I read. You just have to pass the praxis exam. You would know more than me in this subject so you are probably right.

To fulfill PACE requirements and advance to a Professional certificate, current PACE participants must successfully complete three college courses from the lists of courses approved by the South Carolina Department of Education. Courses identified for individual teachers should be based on the educator’s certification area, experience, knowledge, and skills as well as his or her professional growth and development needs. Participants should complete all courses while an active participant in PACE or within the three years prior to issuance of the first alternative-route certificate. Approved courses taken four or more years prior to issuance of the first alternative-route certificate must be revalidated by the college that issued the course credit for use in PACE.
The three required courses must be pre-approved before completion and should be completed for credit and an assigned grade of B or better. For the purposes of PACE, participants may complete the R2S Content Area Reading and Writing requirement through approved professional development (via Virtual SC or their districts). In addition to R2S, one other professional development graduate course may be used to fulfill a PACE course requirement. In order for a PD graduate course to be used for PACE, the course must correspond directly to one of the three required PACE course categories, must be approved by the Office of Educator Services prior to enrollment, and must be taken for three semester hours of graduate PD credit. Only the PD course may be completed as pass/fail.
Participants have access to a list of pre-approved courses, available on SCPACE Moodle. These courses do not require a course approval evaluation request. If participants want to take one of the required courses that is not on the pre-approved course list, they must submit a PACE Course Evaluation request through My SC Educator Portal and a copy of the course description or syllabus for approval. Courses must be evaluated and approved by the Office of Educator Services before completion.
