Not sure how many of y’all are local, but it’s gonna be a good one next week. Westside Rams will take on the Greenville Red Raiders for the right to play for a state title!
Not sure of how often this has happened, but 2 black head coaches will lead their teams, with Greg Porter leading Greenville & Brian Lane leading Westside!

This one was painful. Dunbar went for 7 rushing touchdowns and 200+ really tough yards.
MV defense came out flat, and gave up 41 points in the third quarter. Outside of a KR for a TD in the third, the other 5 touchdowns were scored in 14 plays.
Hate it for the kids, MV played their tails off and Dunbar did everything possible.
Rematch for Westside and Greenville should be good.

MV game versus NA a few weeks ago was the best HS game I've seen in many years.

Since Luckadoo the district has improved coaching supplements and facilities. Also the demographics changed some. Ted did a good job there considering.

GHS grad. WBTV-Chlt sports segment was going to show highlights of the Northwestern game along with three others on on their second segment after a commercial, but the Colbert show started then. Their sports segments as part of the news casts suck. Found the score was 42 - 41. Hadn't kept up with their season.

Because Coach Lane is the first black head coach Westside has had since William Roberts and segregation. And Greg Porter has been a model of consistency for years now. Speaking as a black man, I’ll be glad to see them leading their teams.

I felt the need to say this: race is a social construct, is a matter of birth. I’m not making it about race, I’m celebrating the fact that men who look like me are leading their teams to success. I don’t have to give you a history lesson on the marginalization of black men, nor do I have to educate you on why celebrating the accomplishments of black men matters, especially in a community that has a large black ethnic population. Young black boys need to see this so they can aspire to something other than being rappers, drug dealers, & felons.

I understand your passion and society has had a huge influence on handicapping young black people from being able to achieve. Teaching needs to be from parents, families, schools and people they look to as role models that they can achieve and be anything they dream of being and more. In my classroom, one of our 2 expectations is “Be a good human.” Regardless of ethnicity, religious preference, sex, or SES, we are humans first & foremost. The late Archbishop Desmond Tutu helped popularize the Swahili phrase “Ubuntu,” which means “I am human, because we are human.” He also said, “My humanity is tied to yours.” All this to say, I’m in the business of educating middle schoolers to see the value in every human. The intent of the 2nd half of my OP was not to center “race” or ethnicity, but to celebrate the accomplishments of black men. If that is offensive to you, the issue isn’t with me; it’s with you. As my white history professor at Clemson said, “When one group is used to being the center of attention, it’s offensive when the spotlight is on someone else for a change.”

Northwestern did not convert on a 2pt conversion with just over one minute left, against Greenville last night! Pretty much ended the game!! (Final 42-41 Greenville)

WK vs Summerville. 1v2. Should be a the unofficial State Championship Game. I think whoever wins that wins it all, personally.
As a WK Alum it’s crazy to see how far their program has come.
