We certainly have some fans who care about basketball, just not nearly enough who care consistently.
That's the main reason why we have fewer fans at our home games than almost every other ACC team, despite being better than a majority of ACC basketball teams over the past 5 years.

I'm 64, started going to Littlejohn right after it was built (first year) Went to every home game from about 1971-81. Moved to Fla., came back to the area in 86, bought season tix. Moved to NC in 91, still bought tix for a couple of years. Moved back in 2005 and immediately bought season tix again and still have them. I've seen one regular season championship and no tournament championships in that entire time. I've seen us blow big games at the foul line dozens of times. I've seen refs totally rip us off dozens of times. I simply do not believe we are going to be very successful in basketball after 52 years of a family who supported it whole heartedly. My sons used to cry every year when NC beat us because all of their friends ragged them unmercifully. I've seen two decent coaches who had us on the right track leave us at the first opportunity. There are very good reasons why many Clemson fans will not invest in basketball....too many years of too much pain and disapointment. If you expect us to believe because of how we've done the last five years I don't know what to tell you.
Having said this, I'll see you in the John Saturday night.

Weird. The conference leader has nearly 30% lower attendance than we do. That must be a typo, right? Right? Because surely you had a point and weren’t just trolling the fans of a school you hate. Right?

You SURELY must be a bold-faced liar because we NEVER support basketball.
Even that onetime we played Virginia for 1st place after some other athletic event on campus - we've been TOLD that the place was barely half full - even though the official documentation of the game said it was a sellout.
It couldn't be that Judge Keller® is bold-faced lying AGAIN about basketball support & attendance ? ?
The conference leader has LOWER attendance than us in basketball ? ? You don't say . . . . Hinky.

I say this sincerely and not as a shot but, most of us do care more about football because football is what has really put Clemson on the national map that has opened up so many other opportunities. It is almost incalculable to describe what the program under Dabo has created. You certainly would not see all of the growth and construction if it weren't for the notoriety the football program has generated for Clemson.
None of this should be looked at as a negative by true Clemson fans. Basketball will always be the second fiddle in a football school because it just doesn't carry the same influence in any comparable way. That doesn't mean we shouldn't continue to "spend and defend" our basketball program and make it the best we can within the resources we can afford to allocate to it and support it with attendance as well.
I will always pull for Clemson Basketball and all Clemson sports but I also know who makes the engine go that lifts all boats.

The success of the program generates money and other intangibles that support growth and development. And yes, what Dabo has accomplished has made a significant contribution to that cause. I understand in a Public University how funding is allocated and I also understand how that funding is influenced. The city of Clemson and the state of SC in general garner economic benefits from the notoriety generated from the success of our football program and the national footprint that increases awareness of all that Clemson offers carries its own value.
