Watching Venables and McCloud in there was driving me crazy. We need to go to the portal if we can't attract good enough safeties and linebackers.

If we can't attract them in recruiting, what makes you think we will attract them in the portal?

There are a lot of naive threads on Tigernet.
So we should go to the portal and get a second team LB and a 4th on the rotation safety? What type players do you think are available and willing to do that? Have you seen South Carolina and NC States back seven. The guys you are not happy with would be starting for teams like that. Lavonte Bentley is a starter for Colorado, he would still barely be seeing the field for us. Same thing thing for Pride and Charleston at Missouri. Quality depth is probably the toughest thing to manage in an era where there is unrestricted free agency.
“Mukuba doesn’t look so bad now”. Maybe that was a tongue in cheek comment. He was 4 th in the rotation at safety if you include nickel in that group. Do you think we were going to pay him the same amount as Tx was going to pay him to stay. The guy left to get paid more, to be closer to family and start on a top five team. Just because he starts for them doesn’t mean he would start for us. Based on last year, we were better off using that money to keep Mickens, Griffen and Barnes. I hope Mukuba has a great year. I hope he gets to more actively participate in the raising of his kid by being closer. Even if he has an All America year it was still the right choice at the time not to get into a bidding war to keep him.
Would it have been wise to try and bring someone in to compete with Cade? That is a legit question.

Your commenting about where they would be on CU's depth chart is irrelevant because it fails to factor in that Dabo regularly starts & plays legacies, 5 hearts and seniority over talent.

If that’s the case why did they give up a td on the first two drives coming out of halftime. We was technically still in the game at that time (not really with the offense we got at the moment) and they should have been well rested so I’m not to sure that’s the case

Goodwin brought a good gameplay, but was badly out coached in the 2nd half. Playing Venables against UGA is inexcusable.

Venables didn't hurt the team for the few plays he had. McCloud had major bust and I thought Sammy would fill for Wade when he needed a break. What hurt the defense was the lack of offensive possesion and scoring. The 7 punts or whatever it was is what hurt the defense. The play you saw Venables chasing was not his fault.

2 plays with Venables stood out. The TD where on TV you see him chasing and not catching up to the receiver. I was at the game so I have no idea what replays on TV showed. The ref accidentally got in the way and it affected the outcome of the play greatly. The other was a blitz from a 2 high safety position the Beck picked up a bit a receiver for a good gain. He did not look slow on that play in person, it was just a good pick up by Beck.
He also seemed to only be on the field for a limited number of plays when we were playing a 3 safety formation. So it is not like he is playing instead of Mickens, Griffen or Barnes.
Tyler is easy to pick on for this board because he is the Son of a former Coach. He is and always has been a legitimate D1 football player and would be starting at a number of schools.
Clemson does however need to figure out how to get Brown on the field instead of McCloud. Too much raw talent not to be getting those snaps. Even if they don’t play the same position. Figure it out Wes.

Picking on Venables is an easy way for lazy poasters to push their narrative. Same few all the time.

They get caught flat-footed a lot, especially the linebackers. I don't know what it is about Goodwins defense, but they seem to wait on the offense instead of doing the attacking themselves

Sammy Brown could have stayed with those RB's

The RB would go in motion and no one would follow him and thus were never in the chase. They worked us over with that simple play call in the second half.

We have a 5 star lb in sammy brown that runs a 10.8 100. Hard to do sitting on the bench. The kid was an early enrollee so I don't won't to hear he doesn't know what to do. If you're gonna say I'm gonna play the best players then ante up and keep your frikkin word dabo.
