Saban

I work with a couple of major bama boosters. They say that even though he just signed a new contract, they don’t expect him to be there much longer.
They said that the bama bot wants saban to be involved and help pick his successor and that it is expected to be a former coach that worked with Saban. The name that keeps being brought up the most is Sark. How he does at tx is probably going to determine whether or not that’s who they pursue.
It would be entertaining to see tx and bama get in to a bidding war for a coach, especially with tx going into the sec. Having heard all of this, I’m still expecting saban to stick around for at least a couple of more years. He’s at the top and the program running smoothly.

Saban is a phenom in that he’s done it at Bama with different coaches weaving in and out every year. Agree with you that as long as Saban can compete at the very top he’s not going anywhere.
As for Sark, he has his hands full at TX. If he turns them around which means beating OK and Tx A&M in SEC, then Tuscaloosa can’t touch Austin, TX. I don’t see Sark leaving Texas of his volition.

Please, you give Saban too much credit. Alabama is Alabama. Heck, even a former wide receiver turned real estate salesman turned wide receiver coach could have success at Alabama. Why I Would venture to guess that good old Dabo would have at least 4 National Championships in the same number of the number of years Nick has been there. After all name me one other coach that has beaten Dabo more than once.

How well has Alabama done over the last 50 years when Nick Saban was not coaching there compared to when he was? So much for "Alabama is Alabama". You sound like a Bama homer who's had too much Kool-Aid. They would still be a good program without Nick, but nothing close to what he's achieved.
Same for Dabo at Clemson.
Understanding this is one of the differences between Bama and Clemson fans. You better be happy Mack Brown successfully blocked Saban from moving to UT. He fought like the devil to stop it.

Correct. There’s a reason Saban is at Alabama.

Losing six in a row to Auburn will do that. Between the Bear and Saban they had 25 years with one National Title - when Dabo was there. “The Mikes” (Dubose, Price, Shula) know you don’t automatically have success at Alabama because Alabama is Alabama. Bama is just Bear Bryant and Nick Saban. Period. Well, and a bunch of grotesquely fat banker and lawyer boosters making sure The Process is well greased.

Paul Johnson beat Dabo 5 times. Steve Spurrier beat him 5 times. Jimbo Fisher beat him 4 times. These three men account for 42.4% of all of Dabo’s losses in his ENTIRE career. And, as you referenced, Saban has defeated him twice. So, to answer your question, three other men beat him multiple times.

Sark won't succeed Saban. Take that to the bank

Sark is cut from a different cloth. He has a soft demeanor for a head football coach, which is the exact opposite of Saban (though he's loosened a bit in his old age).
Sark is a very smart guy, a borderline offensive genius among college coaches. However, he's swimming with the sharks at UT where leading the program involves a lot more than Xs and Os.

It would be very hard for a football fan not to be a fan of Saban. I hope he stays on for many years as beating the best makes you the best. Clemson has had good success against him. We will win the Natty this year, and it will mean more if that last game is against Saban.

The Alabama program has nowhere to go but down. Whoever succeeds Saban will be someone full of themselves, chasing money, and a fool. Sounds like a perfect setup for…Lane Kiffin. He will be fired within 5 years of taking the job.

And, as time marches on, other Dabos will be appearing on the scene. That's the way its always been and I see no reason for it to change.
