GITT to discuss Rush

I saw a post on reddit that showed Alex Lifeson playing guitar, just riffing/jamming live, and it was great. I realized I don't really know Rush that much. I have Moving Pictures on vinyl and know the "hits" from classic rock radio like Limelight, Tom Sawyer, Freewill, and Fly By Night.
Is there something else I should be listening to from them? Or is that a good representation of the band. I always enjoy them, but never LOVE it. I have also read that Rush is great music for really smart people and that may be why I just don't QUITE get it.
TIA
Also, YYZ might be my favorite of the Rush songs I have listened to.

so there's tons of live stuff out there. And they have about the best sense of humor of any band, they never took themselves seriously.
Here's a good example.....Frank Costanza opening the show, and they just jam a medley of their songs for about 10 straight minutes.
https://youtu.be/LIpO6bI7pjk?si=UnHaA70uuawKxOpW
another opening, from the "Time Machine" tour.....opening skit lead-in for "Tom Sawyer"

They seemed like great guys. Never came close to meeting them, but they've got a real sense of humor and at least feel like they're down to earth in the interviews, etc.
I've never heard of a Rush "Entourage" or "Crew." Just three (well, two now) pretty regular guys, seems.

Even in question. He makes every top 10 drummers list known to man. Neil Peart lists Copeland as one of his top influences.
I don’t know anyone who knows drums and music and doesn’t think Copeland is one of the greats. Sure arguing Copeland bs Peart is subjective and fun, but there’s zero subjective about Copeland being one of the greatest rock drummers ever.

I love Peart as much as anyone but the dude is known for his technical chops, 100%. He spent his whole life trying to be a more organic drummer and more rhythmically attuned, rather than an amazing drumming cyborg.
Copeland’s all over him. He has the technical chops and a sense of rhythm and groove that Peart just didn’t have on nearly the same level. Add in the polyrhythms and crazy syncopated rhythms he is a master of, and it’s just next level.
Again, I love Peart and we are arguing Ferrari vs Lamborghini here, but Copeland is all over him and Peart would have said the same.

And at the same some he couldn’t have dreamed of scaling back and playing the offset quarter note triplets that Copeland does here. Peart would have killed to have the jazz background that leads to this type of percussion.

>I have also read that Rush is great music for really smart people and that may be why I just don't QUITE get it.
The joke used to be that the only people who went to Rush concerts were wanna-be musicians and fanbois. But I know I took Mrs. Fordt to at least one concert so at least one woman has been to see them.
Not so sure about the smart people only thing, but as a prog rock band they sometimes push the technical side of music, with changing time meters, chord structures, some counterpoint melody stuff, etc. Not exactly experimental music like "Symphony of Chainsaws" or "The Sound of Breaking Rocks", but a little different than run of the mill pop or other musical styles.
That might be where the smart thing comes from - musician smart.

I did date a couple gals in the ugly sorority and another in a lower tier sorority though.
Also, I could not name a single Rush song right now, tho I'm sure I know a few by sounds and stuff.
