Dabo...you need to get with the portal chortle!!

So I've seen over the last few seasons that Dabo and co. work their tuchases off to recruit 4's and 5's only to see an uncomfortable number of them leave for other pastures.
I'm not blaming those players. The portal and NIL is the reality of college football now, not what we may wish it to be. I respect Dabo's future men culture and focus on graduating but having a team like FSU who has been a whipping boy for the last few seasons see themselves bootstrapping off the back of portals makes me frustrated.
Clemson could be reaping lots of talent via the portal while offering Dabo the chance to shape future men who need him and keep us competitive. When we played LSU for the natty it became glaringly obvious how owned we got by portal talent.
It just seems like we do all the heavy lifting to recruit quality players only to ship them off to other competitors.

Brutal to sit back and watch other programs get the key players they need while we sit idle.

What "key player" have we lost to the Portal? We have lost backups at best and except for rare guys that actually play for other schools, backups are what you find in the Portal.

I’m talking about the key players that other teams gained by utilizing the portal.

What position should we have signed and who would we sit?

Again, the portal is not the magic sauce.

And sit who we have now.
We have great players. I can't think of one position where we'd sit our starter for some magical transfer player.
And too, statistics muc

with crickets. Name a player that has left the Clemson program through the transfer portal that has gone on to make a major impact at another P5 school. I’ll add one other caveat to this, it has to be a player that was not problematic to the culture of the program or asked to leave, thus the reason they transferred out.

If they didn’t play much at Clemson, and didn’t make an impact elsewhere

then we should consider that a recruiting miss by our coaching staff, yes?
It’s inconsistent to rave about a recruit when we sign him and talk about “we too deep,” but then act like he stinks when he leaves.

BS. What position are we in need and who would we bench.

Why is it some of you think "the portal" is the magic sauce?
"Oh but Alabama and Georgia blah blah blah"..that's NOT why they're good.
We can be just as good as we've been, using a developmental model.

There is one major flaw with your logic

Development model would be perfectly fine if players weren't transferring out. Problem is players that could be major contributors as seniors are transferring out and leaving holes in the roster. Again if we weren't losing players to the portal I'd be fine staying away, but that's not the case. It's a one way door for Clemson and it's caused our depth to suffer.

We will have basically 3 new talented WR's next year, if you count Stalato.

Can you name one player we lost who

didn't leave because he was buried on the depth chart?
What holes? Transfer players don't transfer to fill holes. They come to start. What position do we need a starter, and who would we bench?

Soon as you go to the portal you take a spot away from another player. What do you think that player is going to do? He is more than likely going to go in the portal.

It actually allows us to pick up another WR that could produce for us for 4-5 years!

Not sure who we have lost that I would say really had a major effect on the depth chart. Definitely would be fun to get a splash instant starter type transfer but like I had mentioned and others as well that is not very likely under Dabo. Just not how he runs his teams. Hate so many are disappointed in a model that seems to be working ok for the team and for the kids that are going the traditional route. There is a reason kids transfer out and that’s the possibility of immediate playing time and with the new rules that can easily be obtained. I’m sure if those kids could see the light at the end of the tunnel and could see that they may play they would stay but some can see the writing on the wall and believe transferring out gives them a better opportunity. Just hate so many kids end up stuck in there, but it’s the chance you take.
