I know … duh! I was there the last time but it just doesn’t seem that long ago.
But anyway, I still remember when we played them every year and a trip to Durham was a regular occurrence. And the return trip was usually (not always) a happy one.
I miss the days when a conference was a conference and you played every other team every single year.
Dang I feel old!

We played Duke in Clemson in 2018. I remember this game well. Hunter Renfrow was down on the field for a few minutes after stretching out for a pass along the sidelines.
The crowd got VERY quiet. It was spooky.

And I witnessed the unspeakable horror of a Spurrier coached team rallying in the rain and mud and desolate stadium to beat Clemson. If I recall correctly, the best Clemson RB ever - Terry Allen - had over 150 yds in the first half…or at least a pant load of yds.
And yet, ########## happened as it did during at least once a year during my time at Clemson.

We had an interception and fumbled it back to them on the return.
It was that sort of day.

That was right after Hugo too. I was driving home to Sumter to help my mother deal with that (they still didn't have power or water 10 days after Hugo) and almost drove into a ditch between Columbia and Sumter because we gave the game away. As I remember, one of the Ford twins made an interception but then fumbled the ball back to Duke in much better field position and giving them a 1st down... they promptly scored and won.

Horrible memory.. Robert O'Neil fumbled two interceptions and it was a rainy miserable day. Lost only two games that year to Duke and GA Tech, both upsets. Also happened on weeks that the NCAA was snooping around Clemson

a filtered word on here - still should be, imo.
I love Wallace Wade stadium - been there a ton - lots to be said for really old, crappy, historic sports venues.

It goes by faster when a decade is 1/6th of your life and not 1/3rd.

by pushing the runner over via Bully Ball tactics. LOL.
Also, heard they’d let the grass grow up higher than normal to slow down our faster RB (Terry Allen) and it worked twice.
One time Terry had swept around left end and was heading for a long TD when he was nicked at his heel by a falling defender.
Bottom line is Duke took it to us, Steve called a super game and Tigers looked a bit out of syn.

in the early 2000s turning the sprinklers on outside the hashes to give our receivers fits on the out routes. That helped them steal a game or 2 in the Bowden era

I still remember 1980, when a Danny Ford coached team lost

to Duke IN THE VALLEY, 34-17. That was a bad day. Rumblings about Danny's job were real at the time. Much like Dabo beating Spurrier to clinch the Clemson job, I fully believe that Danny beating the Coots in 1980 in an upset SAVED his job. And, we all know what happened the next year....
