The answer is to start a minor league football system. For those that simply want the NFL, let them play there. Leave college to the student athletes.

The NCAA (hey, that’s funny, I said “NCAA”) or if the teams form a non-NCAA affiliated mega-conference would have to FORCE the NFL into the adoption of a for-profit NFL-farm system.
The NCAA is probably quite content with their present profitable arrangement, so the likelihood is probably 0.0% of it happening.
Take a look at college baseball. I suspect that only 5% of the players on college rosters have MLB draft potential. Is that much different than football? Probably not. However, most, probably 95%, keeping with the math, of MLB-caliber players are ALREADY in the MLB minor league system. Yet, I’m enjoying Clemson baseball this year just as much as if these MLB-caliber players were forced onto college teams, instead of playing for a minor league team. In fact, I suspect that I am enjoying it MORE than a roster full of Triple-A players on Clemson’s roster.
The longevity of an NFL athlete certainly has an impact on the effectiveness of an NFL farm system, because the risk of a career-ending injury is so much higher in football.
But, seriously, maybe the court decisions for player unionization will force the NCAA & the NFL to form a proper farm system, and then, finally, leave college football for the student-athletes. Again, for me, I would enjoy college football just as much, maybe more, if it was restored to it’s education/amateur status.

Saban is brilliant and is playing the game. He’s feeding the media and recruits exactly what they want to hear. He sold out because his coaching days may be limited. Don’t get me wrong I think he could coach another decade if he wanted but I bet he wins another one and retires due to the death of CFB as we know and love it.

WTH are we thinking?
Are The players amateur athletes going to college to get an education & play a sport (equally) at the same time
OR
are they on college campuses primarily as an Athlete and the Student part is a farce?
Well, let's be honest.. it's always been a farce since the late1890's when it became a habit for the players to be recruited off-campus by an on-campus club and a schollie was used as bait.
We've known for a billion years that many football players too dumb to cut it academically thus desls were made with professors, etc..and under the table $ were handed out.
Now, we just say it like it is..Bama, GA, OHst & even Clemson are semi-pro teams in reality while players are stilled called Student-Athletes.
