Public money doesn't move the line - professional betters do. The $25-$200 bets that casual betters place don't move lines..the $50,000 bets from syndicates and professionals move lines.
Additionally..public betters tend to not bet the game this early. They usually wait till kickoff. Professional betters are usually the ones hitting the lines when they are released. Early movement is usually a sign of sharp money
As of this writing 80% of bet slips representing 81% of the money is on LSU. It steamed up to -6 before it was bet back down to -5.5 where it currently sits.

It opened at 3 and has been going up. The "professionals" that like Clemson are not going to lay their money until they think the line is moving in the other direction.

Actually that is the question? does Vegas know our injury report yet?
But on the flip side Vegas probably lost a bunch on OU vs LSU with most taking LSU and a bunch on OSU vs Clemson with most taking Clemson. So after LSU is riding a high on their performance and there are more LSU/SEC fans than Clemson, I bet they figured they could get more bets giving up points and get their money back where people would take LSU and they know Clemson is a better team overall. Just a theory!

Actually concensus is -5 1/2. MGM is still -6 all the other books are either -5 or - 5 1-2.
Vegas don’t love the money on LSU they just love money. The line will move accordingly to insure that they get their “vig”.
