Trump says evacuate Tehran

Many Iranians have reacted with fear and dismay at Donald Trump's instruction to "immediately evacuate Tehran".

The capital's almost 10 million residents have now been left to decide whether to shelter in their homes - bracing themselves for what could come next - or attempt to join the heavy traffic leaving the country's capital.

Iran's Council of Experts is made up of 88 senior Islamic clerics. Are they going to kill all of those guys too?

Just trying to understand how "regime change" looks and how it "ends this finally."

Current structure of government. I don’t see how we could successfully do that from the outside, but weakening it enough to allow opposition within the country to dismantle it could be effective. I know that there are plenty of people in Iran who oppose the Ayatollah.

The benefits of a peaceful and democratic Iran could be enormous. Mostly for the Iranian people. But of course they fund Hamas and hezbollah. And they are a supporter of Russia. Not to be naive. I’m sure it wouldn’t flow smoothly into a peaceful democratic utopia. But no one would miss the current regime. Well, no one but Russia, Hezbollah and Hamas.

Sooner or later we have to admit that these regime changes create support for opposition to America/global west.

Actually the largest population in Iran is young people, they want change but have no guns. I could see it happening if the old men are gone and the heads of the religiously controlled military are teens up too.

Iran has a well educated youth population that would naturally push for reform from the theocratic and authoritarian government. The change needs to be internal otherwise they'll be called US puppets and overthrown themselves.

No guns no chance to succeeed at an overthrow. Good intentions and happy feeling does not top AK's. Also has been 50 years, how long you think it take? Only way they will be called puppets is if we insert ourselves in their process to name / vote for new leadership.

I should probably add that one of the lessons from 20+ years of wars in the Middle East is once we start bombing them, anyone who can will leave. This means that all the people we want to have a voice in politics are now refugees.

You are not making sense again. Kinda like your post on how protesters should be allowed to protest as they deem fit. Even if it breaks the law, remember I asked if that also applied to the 1/6 crowd? Never answered, only crickets.

As to old Saddam, as the folks I worked with in the ME told me at the time, you guys are making a huge mistake, The Iraqi's can only be ruled by brute force. urns out they were correct, the Iranians are different largely due to being educated. As to the Taliban, those cowards only wanted to play soldier until Uncle Sam left so when the Taliban came back they tossed weapons on the roadside. Even though they had them outnumbered so screw 'em. Sometimes you gotta fight for a country you desire to have.

Also old Saddam kiled anybody that dared to riot, protest or start a revolt which is why the clerics, Gaurds must be destroyed to allow there citizens a shot at building a country they want.

Do feel free to try again though.

Plus the Iranians are Shia , old Saddam was a very minority Bathist and the Taliban are largely Sunni. I could tell you why the Iranians have the best shot at making a nation once out from under the boot of the clerics but I'll let you figure it out.

Youngsters are ripe for change as they have long ago tired of the grizzled limp puckered old men in charge. Most might just end up on trial in Iran for crimes against the people.

Either we are gonna drop our biggest bunker busting bomb, maybe multiple on the mountain enrichment facility or Israel is gonna own the sky, sned in special forces to destroy it by ground . Either way it is gonna go bye bye. Only thing capable from what I read to carry the bunker busters is the B-2, so that means us. Not sure how much nuclear fallout would be from the enrichment facility going up, since it would likely be covered in dirt.

Their air defenses are mostly gone, we are not gonna put boots on the ground. B-2's are gonna drop bunker busters to end nuclear enrichment as they are the only planes capable to carry them.

It took the US decades to learn that when implementing regime change, we may or may not understand the realities the new replacement regime.

Americans often look at unstable third world countries and assume there are two or three groups / sects / parties / potential leaders.

Often it’s not a situation of two parties, not just conservative and liberal.

One thing is for sure, if we do pursue Regime change, it is extremely important to make sure the new regime is not worse than regime one.

Very difficult for USA to pick a winner.

I don’t have confidence in Pete Hegseth assessing the various parties that can potentially fill the vacuum and become the new regime.

I know this isn’t solely Pete’s responsibility, but he should be involved, and I think he’s an idiot.

US DOD and intelligence agencies have recently fired substantial amount of staff. I hope we know what we’re doing.

Do you have faith in the fat orange clown?
