Recruiting This Week PT 4: Arch Manning Update

Jun 5, 2021, 9:49 AM

The weekend edition of the Dabo Swinney Camp has arrived and with it talent from across the nation. While the rest of the week has been loaded with talent, the weekend will bring a whole host of new visitors. So, let’s get started.

-Clemson may not host a bigger camper in terms of talent or importance all Summer then a QB who is set for his first trip to Clemson. Class of 23’ QB Arch Manning will be making his way to Clemson on Saturday and this should be an overnight stay into Sunday. With maybe the biggest name in recruiting for quite some time, maybe Trevor, all eyes of the football recruiting world will fall solely on Clemson. Clemson gets the first at bat, and with that the first impression and a chance to set the mark at which all others will be compared. This will be Clemson’s chance to evaluate the talent and the person, and not just the hype and the pedigree. Manning will be accompanied by his family, remember that I said a couple of weeks ago that I mentioned mom was particularly excited to see Clemson. Included will be his brother Heid who is a class of 24’ offensive lineman who will be camping. Clemson does not offer QBs until they see them throw in person, and um, yeah I think that is a formality at this point. While other teams will get looks this Summer, Texas, Alabama, and UGA, he has already been to LSU and Ole Miss multiple times. Clemson has made an impression entering this visit and I can say that Alabama and Clemson seem to have separated themselves entering these visits. While this could all change after visits, the Manning’s will conduct these visits and this recruitment as a business decision, which is why I personally do not buy the “he will stay in the SEC” thing, could he? Yes. Will that be a deciding factor? IMO no. Clemson and Bama, to a greater extent Clemson, include the things that will be critical in that decision. I do not say any of that to give you false hope, take no more out of it than what I stated, Clemson is in a lead group going into visits and the Tigers will have everything that the family will be looking for and a chance to further cement their place with this visit.

-Manning will not be the only top arm talent on display this weekend. I brought QB Nicholaus Iamaleava to y’all’s attention over a month ago. At that time Iamaleava was ranked just inside the top 100, but I said that I believed he was a top 20 and potentially a top 10 overall player simply on arm talent alone. Well, when the rankings were updated Iamaleava jumped to 22nd overall. Iamaleava recently camped at OSU and earned an offer from the powerhouse. USC is going to try and do all that they can do to keep the local boy home. Iamaleava is the second cousin of DJ, and he has been accompanied on all his trips by Big Dave. He arrived yesterday and was able to get his photoshoot and things of that nature taken care of. It will be interesting to see if Iamaleava gets an offer or if Clemson chooses to go all All Inn on Manning, because IMO Iamaleava is good enough to get an offer.

-As Iamaleava will be in town with Big Dave, so will Big Dave’s son and DJ’s brother Matayo Uiagalelei. He will be spending the weekend. Matayo has already made himself into a top 15 prospect and one of the top DE in the nation. I can also say that coming along, only for this trip so far, will be Matayo’s mother, at least she is supposed to be. I have stated that Matayo would like to be a music producer, and USC has pitched that hard, along with other teams standing out such as OSU and UGA. However, Clemson will obviously have help and a visit to see his “family” as Big Dave would say may loom large for Matayo. Travelling with him will be Bosco teammate class of 24’ Safety Peyton Woodyard, who IMO will be a top 100 player for his class.

-I am not a great believer in coincidence and I do not believe that it is a coincidence that on the day Arch and Iamaleava will be throwing at Clemson 5* #1 overall receiver Brandon Innis decides to take a visit to Clemson. While Oklahoma is considered the favorite, the interest and communication on the part of Clemson has escalated in the past month. This figures to be a big boy recruitment, but getting Innis to campus is the first step in making inroads. Worth noting that Innis will not be working out, but I would imagine he is going to have a keen eye on how the QBs are throwing. Innis will be joined by his 4* WR Santana Fleming, FSU has pushed early, but we will have to see Clemson’s interest in him and peaks post-visit and vice versa.

-Also Coach Grisham recently conducted a virtual visit with Texas#2 WR Jalen Hale of the class of 23’. He stated that he will visit Clemson as a result.

-While we are on the subject of coincidences there will be quite a few receiver targets on hand Sunday as well, which I will detail then.

-Let’s do a quick 180 before we circle back to talk about the rest of the visitors this weekend. Earlier this week I went into detail about TE Oscar Delp’s visit and recruitment, where Clemson had gained some traction despite UGA still leading. Well, as I stated, the orange carpet was rolled out for Delp and his family. His two younger brothers camped while Delp took a tour of the campus with his uncle, who played for Clemson as I have mentioned multiple times. The night concluded with a trip to Dabo’s house. A major note is that Delp intends on returning to Clemson for the Cookout in late July. He wants to commit on September 30th, which is his mother’s birthday, before that he will take officials to UGA this weekend, U of SC, Michigan, and Florida, while he already took an unofficial to Alabama this week. That leaves one official, and he has expressed interest in watching a game at Clemson, if that were to happen Clemson would get him for the cookout and the last official, which would be the best case scenario. There is no guarantee that he winds up taking that official though. UGA is the leader here, and I would say that Clemson and U of SC are the only teams within striking distance.

-While we are on the subject of TEs Greer TE Jaleel Skinner should be camping at Clemson today, but with this kid you may want to wait until he is on campus before believing that. I have spoken extensively on the matter, how FSU leads and Clemson has not pushed until they see what happens with Delp, but it is a big note that he is visiting Clemson.

-While we are talking about earlier this week, Friday was DB day for the class of 23’ at Clemson. As 5* CB AJ Harris, top 10 player S Caleb Downs, and 4* CB Ethan Nation all made their way to Clemson. Downs was Clemson’s first offer when they were dispensed so that tells you the interest. He has frequently cited Clemson as one of his favorite schools, he will take visits to UGA,, FSU,ND, OSU, and Alabama. His brother plays at UNC, so you have to watch them. Clemson has a great chance here. I think this winds up a Clemson, UNC, UGA, and maybe Bama. A very interesting note with regard to Nation was that his sister is a former Clemson Rally Cat, so Clemson will have some help there. I believe Harris intends to return for a game this Fall.

-There was no camp yesterday but there was on Thursday that I did not provide detailed updates on, let’s look at the two things that I think are worth mentioning. First, a recent LB offer for the class of 23’ Raylen Wilson made plans the day after the offer to be at Clemson the next day. Clemson most certainly made an impact and will play a major role in the recruitment. He has a visit to FSU this weekend, which happens to be in his backyard. His film is very impressive. Also camping was 22 DE J’mond Tapp. Several players made a point to speak to Tapp, according to what I heard. I would imagine you can draw a conclusion about Clemson’s interest from that, Tapp has already made a trip to LSU, and he has an official to Texas planned. By my way of thinking an offer looks likely.

-Back to Saturday.

-I have already mentioned the two QBs above but a Louisiana QB is also set to throw in Eli Holstein. He also recently received an OSU offer, and U of SC received a visit the day before Clemson.

-An intriguing in-state class of 23’OT will camp at Clemson on Saturday. O-Lineman Markee Anderson will be at Clemson in search of an offer.

-I major name that I have heard is visiting, but have yet to be able confirm is 5* DE Jayden Wayne out of Washington. I mentioned him in one of my big updates a couple of weeks ago as a guy that cited Clemson as a school that was recruiting him the hardest. Again, I have only seen this reported. I believe he just took a visit to UGA with a trip to Bama sometime this month.

-Two class of 23’ safeties will be camping as well. 4* Safety Terrance Love and Jack Luttrell will be camping on Saturday.

-Two 4* Alabama DL will also be camping. Tomarrion Parker and Kelby Collins will be camping on Saturday. Parker was in Clemson today as well, I could have this wrong, but I believe Parker attends the same high school as EJ Williams, don’t quote me on that.

-I have mentioned a couple of times that Clemson was taking looking to take a kicker this cycle and the #2 kicker in the country Will Beetridge will camp at Clemson in hopes of an offer. He will also visit Michigan and Florida.

-24’ in-state O-Lineman Josiah Thompson will be camping. Has a tremendous upside.

-Have a blessed and safe weekend Tigernation!!!

Thanks for the very nice updates. I am wondering how we are doing with the 2022 recruiting specifically. Who do you see as strong Clemson leans; and who could be our next commitment(s)?

I think that Clemson as a number of leans personally.

You have two CB Toriano Pride and Jeadyn Lukus that are set to visit for the Elite Retreat. Both are taking separate visits to their number 2 schools, UNC for Lukus, and OSU for Pride, this week. While visits could change this, they are both leans and I would expect decisions before the end of the Summer.

The two LB that were offered this week in Kanak and Tolan could both be leans at the moments after their visits, but they each have to see the rest of their schools before deciding.

I think DE Jihaad Campbell, who visits next week, is a lean as well. Two unoffered WR in Andre Greene Jr and Antonio Williams will have a hard time saying no if an offer comes when they visit.

-There are others but these are just some for right now.

Thanks; looks like we will have a good recruiting year in 2022 (probably top 10) but not a great year. Any comments on our chances of landing any of the following: Travis Shaw, Kenyetta Jackson, DJ Wesolak, Walter Nolen or Enai White?

Re: Recruiting This Week PT 4: Arch Manning Update

Shaw has not made his June visit plans public yet, but that recruitment will last into the Fall. UNC, Clemson, and UGA are involved the most. UNC may have a small lead because they have been able to get Shaw on campus more simply based on proximity, but this will be decided by visits in the Fall. It feels a lot like Dexter Lawernce's recruitment, where three or four teams were involved but Clemson separated in visits.

-I have not heard a lot on the Jackson front in some time. I know he has officials to OSU and Oklahoma planned. This may be a case where no officials in the Summer hurts Clemson, as he may decide before Summer, and a visit to Clemson has yet to be scheduled.

-I would imagine that Clemson is in Wesolak's top 2, along with ASU. He attends the retreat coming up, so that would decide what happens there.

-White has 4 officials planned for June, Clemson does not have one, but he said that if they were offering officials he would have gone, still may take one in the Fall.

-A lot of those were DE if I was saying who Clemson had the best chance with( in no order): Moss, Alexander, Campbell, Wesolak, Tapp(If they offer), and Atkinson(If they offer). IMHO Clemson gets one of Wesolak and Campbell to commit in the Summer and then goes after the longer plays in Moss and Alexander in the Fall. Shemar Stewart also has a visit planed.

-Clemson is not involved with Nolen, I am not sure that is a culture fit. UGA, Michigan, Bama, and LSU would be my guess.

Excellent report PAW. However, I am one of those that believe the SEC bloodline for Manning will be hard to overcome but I hope we do.

I remember when we all thought Trevor Lawrence was a Dawg but, that all changed when he was on the campus with Dabo.

We will get a great QB because we have developed them & been very successful since Tajh Boyd. If we can land great TE’s, OL’s & CB’s the next two years we will improve our strength overall that is already top 2 or 3.

Dabo continues to change with the needs & implement multilevel plans to insure success!

Thank you for the information!

Thanks for another timely update CP! I was concerned by the sheer number of recruits signaling their commitments to other top teams when Dabo appeared to have not yet seriously entered the fray. But with a little homework, I see most of the 2022 class has not committed. Will most 2022 recruits firm up their commitments in November '21? When are Clemson coaches first able to contact the young men we have an interest in recruiting and advising them about the process it will take to receive a formal Clemson offer? I guess this process varies based upon the player and circumstances.

Re: Recruiting This Week PT 4: Arch Manning Update

Jun 5, 2021, 6:43 PM

A large number of recruits will wrap up their commitment sometime in July-September, while others will wait until the Fall. The interesting breakdown is a lot of 5* and high 4* are waiting until the Fall or later to decide. I do think that Clemson walks out of the Summer with somewhere around 4 or 5 commits for this class. Maybe they can add one for the next class as well.

-As far as contacting a recruit, you are right it just varies depending on when Clemson decides to get involved. Often times the coaches may just communicate that there is interest to the player's coach if contact between Clemson and the player is limited by the NCAA.
