Recruiting This Week PT: 2 Arch Manning And Other Updates

May 10, 2021, 8:06 PM

I had some unexpected time this wonderful May night and as a result was able to type this up a little early for y'all. Let's get started!!

-With Malachi Nelson a near guaranteed lock to Oklahoma when he commits this July. Clemson has now focused in on two main targets for the QB take next cycle: Arch Manning and Dylan Lonergan. Manning has obviously been on the staffs radar for months but so has Dylan Lonergan. Both of those QBs will be at Clemson in the first part of June.

-Manning has locked in on June 8-9 as the dates that he will be on Clemson's campus. Coming with Arch will be his brother Heid Manning who is a center. After that Arch will head to Texas, Alabama, and UGA for the other weekends in June. Two prominent names that are missing are LSU and Ole Miss. The reason these two schools will not get visits is because Arch has already been there and seen the campuses, especially to Ole Miss. However, that visiting list gives a pretty good idea of who Clemson will have to battle to land Manning. Something that I found really interesting that Cooper Manning, his father, said during the interview was that Arch's mom was particularly excited to be able to visit Clemson. A long way to go there, but you get a feeling that the cultures could really mesh well together.

-Lonergan will also be throwing at the Dabo Swinney Camp, with his date being June 2nd. The day after Clemson he will hit U of C, too soon, and Bama later that week, while he also wants to visit Miss State and OSU. It sounds as though Clemson has stepped up contact with Lonergan as more film has become available, and as I mentioned when I first brought him up a few weeks ago, based on contacts, Alabama and Clemson seem to be the teams standing out to Lonergan going into these visits.

-While we are on the subject of 23" QBs, another name to know is Cali QB Nicholaus Iamaleava. It appears that Iamaleava is set to throw for Clemson at the Dabo Swinney Camp on June 5th. While he is out South he also plans to visit UGA and Bama, and then head North to OSU. If Clemson so desires to make a push, they have a little help as Iamaleava and his family are very close to DJ and his family. If Clemson so chooses they could become a team to beat along with USC and Oregon.

-In my update 2 weeks ago I highlighted WR Nathaniel Joseph as a serious name to know for the class of 23'. The Florida WR will now be on campus June 18th for a visit. As I highlighted two weeks ago Clemson says that he reminds them of Amari Rodgers, and a player that Grisham would value in the slot.

-A Clemson target for this cycle 4* DT Alex VanSumeren was on campus this weekend for a visit. VanSumeren piked up a Clemson offer a few months ago after he de-committed from Michigan after his brother transferred to Michigan State. As such Michigan State looms large in this recruitment, and I get the feeling that Clemson may be behind State and teams such as Alabama and Texas A&M who appear likely to draw June visits. Will have to see if anything changed post visit.

-Another DT prospect for this class has also made plans to visit Clemson on June 3rd in Hero Kanu. I have mentioned Kanu a few times, who is originally from Germany, he has only played one season of football but it was enough to have him become a top 100 player according to Top 247. Kanu will most likely travel with a group of international prospects that will stop and see OSU as well later on. A DT class of Shaw and Kanu would be very intriguing, as Kanu is a raw guy with huge upside.

-Do not forget that for the past few weeks I have said that FSU was the current leader for Jaleel Skinner, not Florida, which many perceived as the leader. As such Skinner will not be taking his official visit to Florida, for all purposes most likely eliminating them. I told y'all months ago when he named Florida as his leader to relax and that Clemson was always going to be able to push if they so desired in what was set to be a wild recruitment, and that still seems to be the case, now they just have to knock out a different Sunshine State team.

-Also coming to Clemson on June 1st is GA class of 23" RB Justice Haynes. Haynes' father played for Georgia, so Clemson would obviously have a lot to make up. However, Haynes said that he is already building a strong bond with CJ. Besides Georgia, you have all the bog boys in on this one such as OSU, Bama, LSU, and ND.

-Have a great week Tigernation!!!

No problem SocMan we are finally getting back to regularly recruiting, expect more updates in June that should have more juice once Clemson knows where they stand with prospects.

As a bus driver took Rome, GA middle school teams to a jamboree at South Paulding HS. The rising 8th grade team has never lost a game in two years and are two year state champs. Their QB is a clone of Trevor in looks and throws a rifle shot. Over summer he grew 6 or 7" to around 6' and is skinny as a rail but then again he is 13 and just had a big growth spurt. They shut out the two teams they played against. Got some big guys for 13 on the line also. The upcoming 7th grade team has a tackle that is 6' 1", wears a size 16 shoe and is right at 300 pounds. This is a 12 year old. When he gets some serious weight training he will be a load. Saw no one close to size of this kid, glad I don't have to feed him.

I know Charlie at Capitol tours, and you'd be surprised at the info he has and what kids say through driving teams around. Great fella,. Good family. Neat stories. Please post more often.

June is going to be a busy time in Tigertown and the key to our next recruiting class.

Clemson Paw-- Will you be giving us a daily report in June? I know it's a lot of work but you seem to have a better read on the recruiting front then many of the others.

It will be Nelson's loss, more-so than ours, that he chose OU. We will be a force to be reckoned with while he is at OU, and long afterwards. They will still be looking, searching, groping for the "right combination" to reach the pinnacle. His loss, for sure, and it will be one of those things he will tell his grand children about ("kids, I could have gone to Clemson, and ---"), but I chose Oklahoma, instead". Woulda, coulda, shoulda all over again.

I agree he seemed like a good kid that would have really meshed with the culture here. Wish him nothing but the best except when he is playing Clemson.

Dugatiger, I will actually have an update on Nelson next time, it appears he may actually still be coming to Clemson, and he changed his mind again. Working to confirm this.

Why would anyone TD this, I don't care who Paw is. He seems to be doing his best to provide information not readily available to us!

That was me attempting to be clever after South Carolina's president called them the University of California, a play on U of SC. He is actually visiting South Carolina that day.

You can't make it up. Surprised Lonergan would even visit that dumpster fire.

Screw Calford.

Re: U of C....LOLOL

May 11, 2021, 11:07 AM

I would imagine that the visit is purely based on location. I still think going in that Alabama and Clemson have an edge on the rest.

Realistically, I would be beyond shocked if Manning ends up

May 11, 2021, 9:17 AM

anywhere other than the SEC. This kid is being hyped moreso than ANY high school QB I have ever heard of, including Trevor Lawrence. Family bloodlines has a lot to do with it, but the kid has obvious talent, as well. The SEC would consider it a huge slap in the face if he were to attend a school not in that conference. After all, in the SEC "It just mean smore."
