Recruiting Breakdown 2020

Apr 8, 2019, 2:29 PM

I think below is a semi-realistic view of where the tigers could be when the 2020 class is all wrapped up. I say "semi" because it seems like it is too good to be true but Dabo and team continue to amaze me. Info is from 247 composite rankings and as it sits right now would give us a team rating of 317.06 which is just about what Bama got last year as the top overall recruiting class.

Bryan Bresee DT 6-5 290 0.9990
DJ Uiagalelei PRO 6-4 240 0.9976
Myles Murphy SDE 6-5 260 0.9966
Demarkcus Bowman RB 5-11 186 0.9914
Antoine Sampah ILB 6-2.5 220 0.9839
Fred Davis II CB 6-1 182 0.9813
RJ Mickens S 6-1 188 0.9769
Demonte Capehart DT 6-4.5 270 0.9745
Phillip Webb OLB 6-4 210 0.9678
Mitchell Mayes OG 6-4 306 0.9648
Daniyel Ngata APB 5-9 180 0.9615
Tre Williams DT 6-1.5 295 0.9562
Paul Tchio OG 6-5 299 0.9556
E.J. Williams WR 6-3 188 0.9535
Sergio Allen ILB 6-0.5 217 0.9418
Xzavier Henderson WR 6-2.5 180 0.9365
Bryn Tucker OG 6-5 305 0.9362
Kevin Swint ILB 6-2.5 243 0.9321
Walker Parks OT 6-5 275 0.9072
John Williams OT 6-5 270 0.8942
Tyler Venables S 5-11 185 0.8466

Doesn't include: RB Jaylan Knighton, WR Julian Fleming, WR Rakim Jarrett, DE Jordan Burch, ILB Justin Flowe, OLB Sav'ell Smalls. Not saying those wont happen but its trending away for most.

QB (1) DJ - Most likely only taking 1 this year.
RB (2) Daniyel Ngata & Demarkcus Bowman - Most likely done if these 2 sign.
WR (3) EJ Williams & Xzavier Henderson - Probably will add one more somewhere
OL (5) Walker Parks, John Williams, Mitchell Mayes, Paul Tchio, Bryn Tucker - Most likely wrapped up!
DE (3) Myles Murphy - Need to find 2 others but there are a couple of lower 4 stars with Clemson high on the list.
DT (3) Bryan Bresee, Demonte Capehart, Tre Williams - Most likely wrapped up!
LB (4) Antoine Sampah, Sergio Allen, Kevin Swint, Phillip Webb
CB (1) Fred Davis - Might add one more
DB (2) RJ Mickens, Tyler Venables - Probably wrapped up.

I would say that Tyler Venables is a solid lock!!! ;)

247 has us a "Cooled Off" for him. I think they need to check their sources ;)

Recruiting Breesee as a DE, still in good shape for Burch, probably a Tim Smith at DT if they take another, probably a Harrell at CB

We are not recruiting Bresee as a DE.... He's a DT hybrid but he's gonna be more interior sitting at right under 300 pounds, Myles Murphy and Jordan Burch are being recruited as DE's.

Not sure where you got that info from but the staff is definitely recruiting Bresee as a DT

Yeah, he may be like a Christian Wilkins type that can play outside a little but he has the DT frame.
Also, with Burch. I think he would be the most likely get from the not included list above. I just havent heard much from him from the Clemson side so leaning away right this moment.

I think this is great analysis I’ll only disagree one a couple finer points. 1. I don’t think we take 6 DLs this class, I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s just 4 (those you listed) and MAYBE 5 if the right person wants in. 2. I think there could be another DB at play from your count. So net net -1 or -2 DL from your number and +1 DB to your number. I don’t see a TE on your list and would imagine we take 1. I’m not sure we take 3 wrs, was thinking 2. Otherwise I don’t have any other qualms.

I think we take more than 2 WR. Overton's out of eligibility. We're definitely going to lose TH and if he can come back and play the whole season I could see AR going pro as well. DK could move increasingly to corner and one or both of Chase and Powell could potentially transfer.

I doubt all of those things happen but I think we wind up taking at least 3 WR. They're still recruiting Lambert to some extent.

I think Xzavier Henderson committed to Arkansas several weeks ago.

Disagree on Jordan Burch and Julian Fleming... Clemson is still the #1 school for both kids... The rest looks pretty good

According to everything I've heard Clemson does not lead for Fleming. Burch on the other hand I hear we still lead for.

I doubt we wind up with Webb. The lone CB pick is from some random dude and probably doesn't mean all that much. I'm not sure that we take 4 LBs period. Trenton Simpson visited for the spring game and may be a more likely target than Webb.

I like webb's tape A LOT. He's the second fastest LB in this class to me after Flowe whose tape is just ridiculous. I don't think we have a shot at flowe though so I would rather Lock down Sampah and Webb. we are already losing 3 LB and 3 safeties this year. the scholarships should be available to take 4.

Re: Recruiting Breakdown 2020

I like Webb a lot too we took 4-5 LBs last cycle (I don't think Williams stays there) and spots are kind of limited. Simpson is a guy that can play sideline to sideline as well and from what has been coming out wants in after last weekend if we take him. There's one CB for Webb from an Ole Miss guy and I think his dad played at Auburn so I think declaring us the leader for him might be a bit premature unless there is some other information out there that I haven't seen yet.

Its strange to be in a position where a highly ranked 4 star recruit might not be a take. To me he has the same body type as Isaiah Simmons without the same level of fundamentals Isaiah had. I hope we find room for him but idk. We only have 1 safety right now and we're losing 3 for sure. We may have a extra scholarship to give.
