Yahoo: Three senators release bipartisan draft of NIL bill
2

Reps from both sides of the political aisle have put together a federal Name, Image and Likeness bill draft, according to Yahoo Sports:
A surprising trio of Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) are partnering together to create The College Athletes Protection & Compensation Act. Booker and Blumenthal, left-leaning lawmakers from the Northeast and two of the loudest critics of NCAA leaders, are joining forces with a Kansas conservative.
It’s a somewhat stunning alliance that has been cloaked in secrecy over the last several months. Such a bipartisan partnership could signal positive movement in the NCAA’s pursuit of a federal bill to regulate Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), a two-year-old concept in which schools are using differing state laws to compensate players, most of them through booster-led collective groups.
In a statement sent to Yahoo Sports, Blumenthal described the draft as a “milestone step forward” for college athletes. “They need a level playing field with guarantees of economic opportunities, educational outcomes, and essential health care,” he said.
Yahoo reports that it still has to be introduced in Congress and the timing of it is unclear.
It would supersede "most if not all state NIL laws," per Yahoo, and create a national database for transparency.

You have 2 of the farthest left Democrats and a RINO who is left of most Democratic senators.
Make no doubt, if Corey Booker is involved and Moran is involved, there is a definite partisan lean to the left.

just pointing out that the article calling it bipartisan and referring to Moran as a conservative is framing it in a disingenuous way.

Is by definition bipartisan. Your OPINION of how liberal or conservative the representatives involved are is irrelevant.

and Joe Manchin would you call it bipartisan? Maybe technically it would be but nobody would say it isn't conservative.

It's bipartisan. Really this isn't that hard you can easily look up the definition yourself. You might think the senate and house are basically the same collection of windbags with no real differences; but, we still have a bicameral legislature irrespective of how you feel.

than some bill from senators from TX,FL,GA,TN- you can guess who that would favor…. they would only be looking to cater to and protect Stankey and the SEC. I imagine whatever gets introduced initially will get changed by both sides and in the end Joe Manchin will leverage it for a new WV stadium and a bid into one of the Power 2 LOL.

Too late, NIL was forced onto the NCAA by our wise and judicial government. This is just the first phase of messing up College Football. Now we get the second step a bill that is going to regulate NIL. How many government agents will it take to enforce this new law in the United States of America? How will people be punished for breaking this new law? Will sports coaches and officials go to jail or even prison? Hope you can smell and see the sarcasm! But do you trust your government to run college football. No where in the constitution is our government given power over these institutions. Wake up before it’s too late.

I’m not even sure what congress is focused on to begin with ….
For the GOP, primary effort s are about going to bat for Trump and using the same “unfair” talking points about his legal woes.
And the Democrats kick the can and state all the great things Biden admin have accomplished while Joe half sleeps in chairs while meeting with foreign dignitaries.
That’s about it.
I’m actually glad to see the senators poking their nose in NIL. It’s not like NIlL has its #### together.

Senators are not personally looking at it.
Members of their staff are talking to lobbyists from all sides (NIL collectives, agents, media, universities, et. al.) All of them will work together and cobble together whatever bill is finally introduced to a committee. The senators whose names are on the bottom of the bill will be "authors in name only."

After making healthcare "affordable" why would you trust them to fix NIL? They're the anti-Midas. Everything they touch turns to poop.

Curious about the essential healthcare angle
Jul 20, 2023, 1:11 PM
|
|
Is that really a concern for any athlete making NIL money? Athletes at major programs are probably getting better healthcare than 99% of other 18-22 year olds because the programs have such a vested interest.
Where is this issue stemming from?

They are probably going to try and push these universities to take care of athletes for the rest of the athlete's life. Even though all these collegiate sports are voluntary and quite frankly a luxury to achieve higher learning. How we have gotten to this point where these athletes, fans or even politicians believe it is there God given right is unbelievable on so many different levels. The Conservative Supreme Court gave us this. The NCAA sued to stop NIL and the Supreme Court came back with a decision that said it was unfair for these athletes to not use their likeness to make money. Though the NCAA had rules stating it was against their rules but like so many other facets of life what the heck does it matter what rules or laws say anymore. The IRS has rules and laws should we just ignore them bc we don't like it? I understand why student athletes would like to make money but understand like so many things in life other people with no morals, credibility or discipline ruined it for them. If you didn't like the NCAA's rules then DON'T GO TO COLLEGE. Pretty simple fix right? It's a privilege to play a sport in college and have your way paid for but for some reason so many people believe it's a right. People believe it's the student athlete that make these universities all this money and I guess in some small way it is but are you not still loving Clemson football without Deshaun Watson or Trevor Lawrence? The school is what makes these players. Yeah it helps if the player is good and can help further their popularity. Without the exposure and popularity of college football all these players mean nothing. I'm just tired of all the Liberal hand wringing that everyone everywhere is getting taken advantage of. Let's make a rule if you receive NIL you pay for everything. You pay for your scholarship, school supplies, room and board, travel expense, health care, football equipment, food and everything else. Then let's see what is said about how much players really received before NIL was a thing.

not even close to "a bill" this was a draft for discussion and it is extremely biased against the schools.
