The article clearly says they obtained the information from Local Police and property records, as well as first hand accounts from he family. The article is comprised entirely of quotes from attorneys and law enforcement officials. I am really am having a tough time understanding how you can think this is speculation on CNN's part when they so clearly are reporting the information given to them.
Do you even understand how journalism works? Maybe stick to Wordles.

This is hands down the most pathetic post in the history of this board IMHO! You can never fein outrage over any free speech issue on this board ever again. Yes, I got banned for one week for laughing at misplaced outrage. Two of the most innocent posts I've ever made. Congrats T3! So, keep up the misplaced outrage and I will keep on laughing, whether I'm banned or not. A few examples of misplaced outrage:
1). This thread and raging about CNN or a black kid playing in the band instead of the hateful wretch that shot a kid over nothing.
2). Raging about A. Babbit getting shot, instead of who caused her to get shot or the irony behind that it was because she didn't listen to the cops.
3). Raging about a person getting arrested and the prosecutor instead of mentioning a grand jury or the judicial system or the person that actually committed the crimes.
4) Bringing up the war in Ukraine and being outraged at Biden instead of the PROVEN murderous psychopath that actually sent his troops in to invade another country.
5) Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Honest question, because I haven't read the article. But it says he's "accused" and that his address matches where the incident occurred. That doesn't strike me as irresponsible. It strikes me as reporting facts.
What actually happened? That's for the trial. I guarantee CNN reached out to the man or his representatives, and they said (smartly) they would not be offering comment. That's where I'm befuddled as to why you think getting comment from the other attorney is wrong. It was the same opportunity given to "both sides."
Did the non-attributable copy in the article -- where you could rightly claim bias -- explicitly say the shooting was race-related?

A white man in his 80s is the individual who apparently shot and seriously wounded Ralph Yarl, a Black teen, on April 13 in Kansas City, Missouri, according to a CNN review of property records, police statements and detention records.
CNN is not naming the man at this time, given he has not been charged.
Two representatives at the Kansas City Police Department detention unit read the man’s booking information to CNN over the phone. They confirmed the man who was booked on an investigation hold was a White man in his 80s and his home address matches the address where the shooting took place.
