Cry me a frickin river, Spankey
The SEC ran from non-conf games because other than bama vs Cupcake U, everyone else was getting their butts handed to them. ND and Clemson will have 10 games played, same as all the "It just means more" schools, so I guess it really "just means the same" when all is said and done.

Sanctmonious Sankey of the SEC. ACC contenders to the Natty and he fires a loud blank knowing our contenders will play (god willing) the same as their teams. There are few polite words to express to such drivel. Maybe GET A GRIP suffices.

I wonder what Skankey was driving at when he said that? ND and Clemson STILL will have to play each other, no matter the number of season games. Either Clemson will then have two losses or CU and ND will both have one loss. Maybe sour grapes because the SEC didn't start earlier and lost some flexibility? ACC winner won't have played any fewer games than the SEC winner. OR, is he just really THAT MUCH of a tool?

Tread lightly and be respectful on the board of a team that has 3 national championships since your last one. Maybe speak up when you can at least handle a pathetic UofSC team consistently.

Candy, Mizzou, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn and Arkansas all say hello. And your 3 yards and a cloud of dust team is fast approaching irrelevancy too. Notice I didn’t include LSU because I figure their rogue program will be shut down in a year or two.

Easiest question of the day. They ran from playing ACC non-conference games because Clemson would beat SC and if Loservile somehow popped up and beat UK the mighty SEC is 2-2 against the lowly ACC and lose their whole argument about how great they are. The SEC was just plain scared of that potential. No other way to explain it.

So the SEC was 8-4 last year vs. the ACC, yet the conference is running scared because Clemson would beat SC and Louisville would beat Kentucky. Makes perfect sense. Do you really think the SEC measures its strength of schedule by the ACC teams is plays?

We will settle up with the big dogs in Charlotte 9 months from now. What Will we do playing a big SEC exam & all....
Alabama has lost two Natty’s in a row to little ole Clemson. We’ll get to make it 3 if ND doesn’t beat Bama too in the playoffs.
Dogs won’t be there.

Point is about scheduling competition, right? SEC declines but the ACC wants the age-old teams to play. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but the SEC was flat wrong. We'll never know just why, but their 10 game planned schedule really doesn't compare to the ACC 11 game schedule. The point for Clemson football was to play their in-state rival, but the SEC shut that down. Clemson added another in-state school, so what's the real point here. In my book, it's don't ally personal opinions to a conference allegiance in this trying time for stupid reasons. As my dad said, when you're hole, don't dig.

You're such a joke, and you are laughed at every time you come here acting like a big dog, and we know that you're just a little barking Chihuahua!!! Clemson, 5 times in the playoffs, won 2 National Championship, and played in 4 national championship games. In the past 10 years, Clemson has done more and been a better FB team than UGA has in the past 20 years. So go bark/brag to your fan base, what you bring to this board is just laughable!!!!

You’re wrong about one thing: In the past 10 years, Clemson has been more successful than UGA’s been in its past 100! They’ve got some catching up to do.....

Here are the two things that happen every time I come here: 1) the pack mentality takes over and 2) that pack mentality is completely incapable of staying on topic. Congrats on your recent success. I'm sure you guys will beat UGA 73-0 next season. Now, back to topic...why would the SEC run from out of conference competition? I got all the throw down lines...UGA hasn't won since 1980, Dabo walks on water, blah...blah. Answer the question.

The answer to this question is that simple. If you are assumed to be head and shoulders above other conferences before a snap is ever played, why would you agree to have to ‘prove it’ on the field against ‘inferior’ confernces. Especially when you have a convenient excuse Covid to avoid too much scrutiny. As cowardly as it is, the decision does make sense even if the said reason for doing so is bogus.

Agreed 100%!!! What is Sankey's problem anyway, they set up a 10 game schedule excluding their rivalries that they have been playing forever as a fixed part of their yearly schedule every year with their instate rivals, in or out of the SEC conference for as far back as I actually became a college FB fan back in 1962. The ACC set up a 11 game schedule, and bringing ND in the ACC conference as our guest so they could have a schedule, and that helped the ACC to become just as strong of a FB conference as the SEC.
Looking at the sec schedule with them only playing each other, IMO, they weaken their strength of schedule as a whole bc they have 3 teams within that conference as usuc, Vandy, and Missy St, that would be a toss up playing the weakest ACC teams as in Wake, Duke, and GT. I actually believe the 3 ACC teams mentioned, would be in favor of coming out on top of the 3 SEC teams mentioned. IMO, it would be 2-1 or 3-0 in favor of the ACC!!!
It's past time that the SEC recognise that they're not on that high horse any longer as being the best FB conference bc, they aren't the SEC of the 1990's or early 2000, and it's past time the SEC fan base, ESECPN, and the sports media to come on down, bc that SEC horse isn't near as big as they once thought that it was!!!!

You were too ########### to let us beat a coach less clucker team 80-3. Makes no sense for us to play a ##### FSU team or to go out of our way to find another opponent to play . Your NC team from last year is a disgrace to college football. And your “best” story of the year is about a large woman who can skip the ball 30 yards. GFY!

Exactly! You’d think this guy would maybe be a little more concerned about protecting the LSU student body from the semi-pro football team than sticking his nose under our curtain to see what we are doing. And that line about every SEC game being a quality game? Child please! What do you have over there this year - maybe 3 quality teams and a severely limited offensive team over ranked (UGA) and a joke of an Auburn team that was only ranked because the conference absolutely robbed Arkansas?

The thing is, this year no team out of the playoffs is really a quality game. As soon as teams are eliminated, their best players are opting out. The local radio station here called it correctly, this year’s cfp is a made-for-tv event, rather than a legitimate championship.

Yep, but the thing is, we will have played just as many games as the SEC at the end. Plus, why would Spankey be so worried about the ACC, when he should be more concerned about what's going on in his own yard!!!

For once, in this crazy year, I agree with the SEC and this is exactly why it makes no sense to even attempt a Playoff this year. If every league is not playing the same number of games (see Big 10 schedule}, you are not dealing with apples to apples and oranges to oranges. If I were the SEC, or ACC, I would question why the BIG 10 is eligible without playing a schedule equal to those of the ACC and SEC.

whether Clemson is the ACC champ at 9-1 it 10-1 with an Ash whipping of the Noles will not be material to the selection process.
College football was played this year because of the courage of the ACC. To quote Colonel Jessup, “ I would rather that you just said ‘thank you’ and went on your way.”

Let’s conveniently forget that
- SeC ran from non-conference games. - ACC teams are playing 10 games (the same amount of games)...since ACC scheduled 11 with non conference games. - ACC started earlier...Dec. 12 was always just a day for ‘rescheduled’ games if necessary. - SEZ started later....that’s on them. - SEC has a beef with Ohio St if anyone....but they and you have nothing to say to the ACC.

is busting the SEC Commissioner, because Bama, Florida, and A&M are all playing 9 or 10 games due to Covid delays. Clemson will have played 10 games as of 12/5. Our last game is with Va Tech, who is a better team than FSU. FSU will likely not be free to play on 12/5 given their protocols.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29566090/sec-play-10-game-conference-only-football-scheduleSEC to play 10-game, conference-only schedule The SEC presidents and chancellors on Thursday approved a 10-game, conference-only football schedule for the fall that begins on Sept. 26. The SEC title game is scheduled for Dec. 19.
"People have been clamoring for us to increase the number of conference games, so I thought perhaps there would be great celebration at that reality, right? But it is a recognition that we are in a very different environment and the importance of the Southeastern Conference championship was primary for us," Sankey said on The Paul Finebaum Show. "We have great respect for the rivalries that exist across the conference but we don't know what the fall is going to look like and having the ability to manage our own schedule we believe gives us the best opportunity to play for that championship, to have our division winners, which is our tradition, and then to have a conference champ game a few weeks later than originally planned."
ACC is just showing that our "conference championship game is primary for us" as well.

it'd be completely wasted. BEsides, TAMU isnt going to play 10 games unless they man up and are willing to play Ole Miss on the 19th? They had enough players to play the first go round but backed out...they know its an L for them and they are protecting their chances.

That's rich coming from a conference that would not allow their teams to play their in-state ACC rivals and who adjusted their conference schedules to add the easiest conference games for their best teams to protect them.
He's just jockeying to get 2 SEC teams in the CFP rather than 2 ACC teams. It's so obvious and self serving. The SEC has no shame. I am embarrassed for him.

Sounds to me like the understanding that the ACC is catching up to and maybe even surpassing the SEC is beginning to set in on him. If ND decided they liked the conference life and said they would sign up full time, it would be a major threat with all the other teams that have stepped up this year in the ACC. Wish I could say mine was one of them.
I digress. My point remains, though. The SEC is losing the battle this year on his watch, and Sankey has that sinking feeling he is going to get blamed for it. Fun watching them squirm, isn't it?

As if the SEC doesn't always protect its best team (s) with favorable scheduling???
Why is it fair to expect Clemson and ND to play 11 regular-season games when nobody else is?
The ACC got it right (for once). FSU clearly doesn't want to play football and is likely shut-down for the rest of the season. Clemson and ND are CLEARLY the two best teams in the ACC this year, and their records bear that out. If/when the ACC needs to add another game to either team's schedule they have allowed themselves a window to do so, unlike the SEC.
There's no reason for ND and Clemson to play meaningless games against league "patsies". That proves nothing. Besides, the selection committee stated that they aren't making # of games played part of their selection criteria.

As I recall, the ACC really wanted to play those SEC rivalry games, but the SEC decided to skip them, erasing hundred-year streaks. And they blamed COVID? For travel 100 miles down the road in their own states? The SEC stuck with a 10 game schedule, no OOC games. The ACC played OOC games and adopted ND into the conference.
The SEC decreed that Alabama will skip a schedule game against Arkansas (3-5), to play a make-up game against LSU (3-4) and will have played 9 games instead of 10 but might get some more TV $$ for the game.
The ACC decreed that postponed Clemson-FSU game will not be made up, leaving Clemson with 10 games played (assuming the VaTech game is played this weekend as scheduled), albeit with one being Citadel (but we'd have rather played SEC rival SCAR, except that the SEC bailed on those games, but I repeat myself).
We could take that open date and play one of those vaunted SEC teams, like SCAR...oops. I mean like Vanderbilt...oops. I mean like Arkansas...oops. I mean like Tennessee...oops. I mean like Miss St...oops. We for sure could get some TV $$ for a rematch of the last Natty by playing LSU? Yeah, let's do that!

The SEC and it’s affiliates.
"We could have played an eight-game conference schedule," Sankey said, "but we understood looking at the season we would assist ourselves in this postseason evaluation by adding quality games. SEC games are quality games. We're still on that path.”
Get off your fckn high horse, Stankey...so quality you made Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Arkansas the literal punching bag this year to fatten up your best teams’ resumes. This hypocrisy and arrogance is unreal.

Not only would "the stinkster" have done the same thing - he would have made a dumb af statement like: "gauntlet schedule"! What? SEC equivalent of FSU is probably Miss St. Had they had a late season game versus a favorite SEC team he would no doubt have cancelled it. Especially because lesser teams had already treated Miss St. like lil rag dolls( FSU in the ACC's case ).
And why does a Georgia Bulldog fan find it necessary to come on TNET? Envy is a " "!

Mr SEC commish

Every team in the ACC, including Notre Dame and Clemson, were scheduled to play 11 games. Sadly, some ACC teams will only play 10. This is because of something called Covid 19. Have you heard of it?
BTW... in case you have not noticed, the SEC is only playing 10 games... that's right... only as many as Clemson and ND will finish the regular season with.
Want to talk about strength of schedule? Vandy, South Carolina, Kentucky.

At least 4 ACC schools wanted an SEC opponent in 2020
Dec 3, 2020, 2:13 PM

|
What needs to be defended here? We prepared and showed up (assuming something squirrelly doesn't happen before Saturday) for all 11 of the games scheduled. Regardless of what the ACC decided, I would have been disappointed if we had agreed to travel to Tallahassee AGAIN to play the Noles...but I am sure that Dabo and crew would have done so if directed to by Drad.
This move looks more about protecting Notre Dame, to me. It would certainly have been an advantage to us to have a bye week next week while ND was playing a game, and playing one more game total than we did.
I think Miami probably has more grounds to call BS than the SEC does.

I don’t know what he’s even complaining about. The SEC has a solid chance of getting two teams in anyway. If Notre Shame beats the Tigers again, Clemson is out. If Florida beats Alabama, they will BOTH be in. And, even if Clemson beats Notre Shame, if Florida were to beat Alabama, I say they’d still get two teams in. I think Ohio State would get left out in the cold in that scenario. For all their arrogance, I think the SEC has a complex regarding the ACC. Maybe it stems back prior to 1953 when many SEC/ACC (original ACC) schools were apart of the same Southern Conference. I think for some reason they’ve always looked down on the Upper South Schools who went and formed the ACC. I think it still burns them up a little knowing that there is another Southern group of schools that rival or even better them in many sports. For all the grief we may all give the ACC (and it’s highly worthy of it) the ACC really is the best conference not only in the South, but America.

I don’t give a crud what SEC thinks - SEC has done:

From the SEC 1. Bama and others have scheduled 3 absolute patsies every year. 2018 is normal. Arkansas state, Louisiana, citadel 2. Years ago, they started scheduling bye weeks or patsy the week before their rivalry game. 3. Sec teams with in conference rivalry are allowed to schedule an additional patsy, not a power 5 decent game. 4. Sec teams somehow manage to avoid other decent sec teams (except every few years.). Played Ga regular season once in past 6 years. 5. Bama has not played a road out of conf game since 2011.
So, I don’t give a holy crap what the SEC thinks about our schedule!

He needs to worry about the SEC, paying cash to players, hookers and all the other problems there and let the little old ACC alone.

The same conference that chickened out on instate rivalries?

After the ACC had made express schedule considerations for those important games?
Yeah, screw him. His opinion is worth nothing.

I am wondering if he made these comments about ACC more as a ‘set the anchor’ point in a negotiation. If he starts a conversation about 11 games being reduced to 10 games as a questionable move for the ACC, it makes the prospect of letting a 5-0 OSU into playoffs even more preposterous. It might be a stretch, but that was my thought when I read this.
