He’s dead accurate here..:My only beef is Dabo got crucified for saying it…When Saban said it there were commissions sent to DC for congressional assistance.

It’s ok. Just getting more guys, especially guys like Saban, to say this will help get the word out. Dabo got criticized partly because he was first which is not surprising. I also agree with his locker room comments. It will be interesting to see if these teams can control the chemistry and egos in those locker rooms.

Saban will get criticized for his comments too.

The difference is that Dabo's comments have not merely focused on the misuse of NIL, but argued against players getting paid at all. That's a significant difference, especially to people who want any excuse to blame coaches making money but not wanting players to.
Saban was careful to say that he has no problem with players making money. Has Dabo said that?

Yes, Dabo has repeatedly said he's not against players getting paid. One difference is Dabo goes further and states education should come first. He also often lumps NIL and portal together and furthers the statement with tampering. Some critique I've heard is people ask what proof of tampering is he referring to.
That said, I agree, the more the others speak up, the better. If it takes little Nikki getting it done, kuddos to him.

Seriously?!?!?!?! Repeatedly. Multiple times Ad museum Every time someone asks him about nil, he says that he is not against the players being paid, as long as it is tied to education.
Personally, they shouldnt be paid. They get a free education in whatever field they choose. If they elect basket weaving, thats on them. Most schools do not make money from football. They are at a net defecit. Losing money. Throw in that they now have to go ask for more money from boosters and you see how Sabans comments on parity play in.

Dabo saw through the NIL thing before most took the time to examine the good, the bad, and the ugly side of the NIL, and that's bc Dabo is more of a pro active person, and that's a good way to be before reacting, and that is the reason he was able to do at Clemson what most HC's we've had wasn't able to do....

Coach Saben is right he will not receive the criticism tthat Dabo would endure. Dabo I am sure will continue to battle this issue and do things the right way. I feel there will be the occasional klubnick but it’s definitely going to be an uphill battle. It will be interesting to see how soon A&M implodes this season No way Jimbo holds this together

If he implodes, a.k.a. doesnt make the playoffs, hes done. No one is going to spend that much and not see results. It will all come back around to coaching. Regardless, it will set an example for the future. The NCAA is, hopefully, watching and will bring about some sanity. Otherwise, dabo is correct and college football will split into a separate echelon of haves and have nots. The haves will become the training grounds for the nfl. May become the minor leagues and tied to specific teams???????

Glad to hear Coach Saban speak out against the direction we are going. It doesn't mean as much if Dabo or Lane Kiffin say it, because they are smaller schools moneywise so it may look like they are upset because they are now at a disadvantage. Nick is not at a disadvantage so it may come across as more genuine and looking out for the good of college football.

yup!!.. as a lifelong, diehard clemson tiger fan, i can honestly say i just don't care as much, anymore.
and, i'm sure there are more that feel the same.. it just sucks for the fans of today cause we lived in the time when college ball was good. 30 years from now, it'll be the norm and no one will know the difference.

College ball has lost its luster for me as well. I spend very little time following it. When the system is rigged it’s disheartening. Much like the last election.

Its funny you say that....how many people remember SMU from 40 years ago. They got the "death penalty" for doing the exact same thing, except now its ok. SMU was never the same.

Exactly! I was barely too young to remember the '81 championship so I always wanted to see them win just one more in my lifetime. We've been blessed with 2 recent ones (so far). I will still follow Clemson happenings and watch all of their games, but I don't follow college football in general like I used to.

Agreed. All that money won’t save them. Bama is just better. Jimbo is not better than Dabo…..much less Saben who imo is the greatest cf coach if all time.

Managing a locker room full of kids with guaranteed money will be a nightmare. The egos will be off the chart. The moment they don’t get the playing time they want or if a higher bidder comes after them when they have a great season, they will take their money and move on to the next financial offer. We are watching the destruction of college sports! It’s pathetic and disgusting!

Don't think A&M will lose many bidding contests. The university and alumni/fan base haven't skimped on anything the last 10yrs. I live in College Station and have had Facebook ads where women's soccer players are in on the NIL game. I do think it will create a very divisive locker room full of "mercenaries", especially if there are numbers adding up in the L column.

NIL is the death of CFB. I'm already losing interest as "recruiting" is now becoming free agency---who will get the best deal.

I'd rather speak what is right and be criticized roundly,
May 19, 2022, 9:51 AM
|
|
than say nothing and let the idiots run the asylum.
I'm sure Dabo could not possibly care less about the criticism because he is RIGHT.
John Stuart Mill, who delivered an 1867 inaugural address at the University of St. Andrews and stated: “Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.
TL/DR - All that has to happen for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
More about our society right now than football specifically - but it fits football right now - to a T.

But Dabo gets crucified for saying it when it first came out. Now Saban is getting praises for it. Maybe the NCAA will open their eyes and see what kind of mess they created, but highly doubt they have the nads to do so. Congress, just a joke if they get involved. Another do nothing group of idiots.

listen to the whole piece, when put in context it is not nearly as bad as it sounds. Saban is talking about the impact of the "collective" and NIL, that a coach knows what is in the collective and tell a player "I can give you $100,000" ... A&M has a collective and it's well funded and therefore he can offer players large chunks of cash to play at A&M... Saban thinks that concept violates the spirit and intent of NIL...
