I’m flattered Herbie and thank you but my Tar Heels are not a top 5 team. Not even close. Long way to go to get to that level.

Fact is, they and others are there almost by default. Until the Big 10(14) actually plays a game, they cant be ranked higher, and when the polls first came out, they were not going to play at all;same for the Pac12. So, SOMEONE had to be there, and with LSU and others crapping the bed early and often ,the Heels, Hokies and Canes all took advantage of it. DOnt look now but another week of craziness might see the Wolfies up there. Somehow they keep winning against better teams.

I only think the top 4 are correct for now. I'm just glad he sees Alabama as #3.

That’s what I’m looking for. Just some good ole football conversation. I would have the Heels around 15 or so. Clemson is without question #1. After that there’s some debate for the next few spots.

UNC has a above average team, with a good QB and a better coaching staff. They play better than their talent due to coaching. A few more good recruiting classes and they will be the 2nd best team in the ACC unless ND joins full time and even then I think UNC could be better than ND just because Mack is better than Kelly and the Tar Holes have more speed.

Why not put them in as #5? I'm not sure who else really deserves to be there. The mighty sec was turned upside down last week. The big dong10 haven't played. FudgePac 12 is only going to play 6 games...I can't see ranking them even after a "full season". Any team could lose their whole OL...its already happened once. I seriously doubt that the top 25 will be anything but a shambles for most of the season (except for us, of course). Without cross conference games, the top 25 is really an endeavor into futility

Not sure I could identify a top 5 at this point.

But. I can identify my #1 team. Fyi....I am a bit biased.

I would bet the house on Florida over BYU on a neutral site.

I’m with you Keith - well, sort of. I am a firm believer in never betting on ANYTHING that can talk. However, I do take the same approach when making my decision(s) on who is the better team. As much as I dislike the SEC, 031o State, and Notre Dame - not to mention a few coaches - I try to take my ‘heart’ out of the decision making process, too.

I think putting UGA ahead of Alabama is wrong but that will be settled on the field next weekend. IMO, the Ole Miss game will end up Alabama's stinker of the year.

I’m no shy about UNC’s #5 ranking. Our offense is as good as any team in the USA. Nobody is playing defense this season outside of Clemson and UGA. Plenty of SEC teams regularly get thrust in the top 5 for no reason each year. It’s UNC’s time.
I predict the defense improves as the season progresses. Not enough actual hitting in practice.

No your offense isn't as good as CLEMSON's or 'Bama's, to many 4 and 5 stars on each. But your team is in the top 8 offenses due to your QB and coaching staff, you are 1 injury away from being mediocre, Howell goes down and you are middle of the road ACC, CLEMSON or 'Bama just plug in the next guy.

UNC's offense is NOT just Howell (although he's a big part). Carter and Javonte Williams are the best running tandem in college football. Plus, the Heels have two of the best receivers in Dazz Newsome and Dyami Brown.
I'm certainly not comparing UNC to Clemson, 'Bama or UGA but there's a big drop off after those three (OSU not playing yet) so I'm just saying UNC is in the mix due to their offense and the fact that nobody is playing defense outside the Big Three (and even 'Bama's D got rolled by Ole Miss).

Say what? Best running tandem? We have one running back better than that "tandem".

I really don't stars should be a deciding factor, in how a team will preform.
Clemson is proof, they have in the past done more with less. Just my opinion.
