Next Bond film----what do you want?

Tangent post from the Maverick thread.......
I'm as big a Bond fan as you'll find......love em all. I'll watch the cheesiest Moore movies, the Dalton flicks (if they're on TV), the gimmicky Brosnan ones....I love them all (except Quantum of Solace....ugh).
I appreciate what Craig brought to the franchise. Under Brosnan it got a little campy and started to feel like a 2 hour product placement ad (Still----Goldeneye? C'mon kid, that's fantastic), and Craig really brought some gravitas to the character that had been missing since Connery.
With that said, I was ready for his reign to end....two things had gotten old to me.
1) The movies had become too much of a vehicle for overt political/social messages. I don't blame Craig for this as much as Barbara Broccoli, but it's possible to have Bond evolve subtly instead of taking a massive dump on the character the way they did so many times over various social issues. Unfortunately, I don't expect this to stop.
2) The bigger one----The Craig movies went too far to the dark, serious side, and in the process sucked most of the fun out of the franchise. I hope they restore some of the balance back to this equation. A Bond flick doesn't have to (and shouldn't) feel like a British Jason Bourne movie.
What say you, fellow Bond fans?

Brosnan. Casino Royale and Skyfall are both top-tier Bond films. I thought some of the "updating" of the traditional tropes were done well, especially Q being a younger, techy person instead of a knock off Desmond Llewellyn.
But the overly dark stuff got old and it did seem that someone (writer, producer, director, whoever) was almost embarrassed by aspects of the Bond character.
I'd like to see a little bit of the charm, suave, and humor come back with the next actor. I don't necessarily want camp, but the gritty bruiser side of Bond (which was there from the earliest movies) has been over played recently. Honestly, the modern world has a TON of cool scenarios for Bond stories. (Russian aggression, Chinese expansion, African unrest, Mid-east terror, etc.) A good writer could find something original and yet true to the stories.

The Craig dark and the Connery camp. Avoid the silliness that the Moore and Brosnan ones started to delve into.
EDIT: As much as I love the Craig ones, I also think it should go back to a Bond world where each movie completely stood alone; there doesn't need to be a connection to the previous film. The character development didn't suck, but that's kind of what makes the Connery ones so fun. They're each their own film.

I thought Craig was pretty good, but during his reign Bond seemed more like an action hero. I realize Bond is a little bit of an action hero type, but I think the character should be a little smoother. It should be a little more cerebral.
I don't think I ever made it through the a Bond when Remington Steel played bond. I just couldn't buy into him being Bond for some reason.

Have read the original Ian Fleming books (well, two of them). Have seen almost every movie (Brosnan & Dalton don't really count). Have watched the REAL Bond movies (Connery & Lazenby) multiple times each. Grew up with the campy Moore movies.
Anyhow, as long as they don't make the new Bond a Black Lesbian chick (no offense to Black Lesbians) from Canada I'll give it a shot. Bond should be a White British male. But if they can't do that, then at least do a new reboot that is plausible and true to the original vision of Fleming, which was dark and realistic. I am not holding out much hope.
Agree about Babs Broccoli.

I grew up with Moore and always loved the humor. "My brudda Billy Bob's got the fastest boat on dis 'hea lake."
I just hope every mission isn't to save the world. That was one of the great things about Casino Royale (in addition to the best intro of any Bond).
I think it might be tough for them to carve out a niche in a genre that was all theirs for years. The Bourne stuff pushes pretty hard into their sphere, etc.
Even a low action spy thriller can be great if crafted well. Spy Game has virtually no action at all but I remember it far better than some of the worst Bonds simply because the story was great and the and it was so #### clever.
For those who haven't seen it, a CIA veteran conducts a cross-world covert operation under the noses of his bosses while he's literally packing his office up on the last day before his retirement. And he does it without cell phones or computers. It's great, and I don't think there's one explosion in the whole movie.
The best bond movies had a little of everything, but nothing was overblown. The worst have over the top bad guys, over the top plots, over the top action sequences, and are formula to the point of illness.
I'm good with almost any direction they take it - gritty, humor, etc., as long as the basics of good characters and good stories hold up.
Off the top of my head I can hardly remember any of the overblown Bond bad guys, but how can you forget a fat narcissist like Goldfinger or a woman spy like Bach who is going to kill you once the mission is over because you shot her lover on your prior mission? Or a guy who is banging on your nuts while you laugh your head off because HE is going to get chopped into little pieces if you don't give him the code?
That's way more memorable than any explosion.

Already forgot what happens other than, like you said, a bunch of Jason Bourne ripoff action. Sucks.
Skyfall, on the other hand, is a masterpiece. Perhaps not in the pantheon of Bond, but to a casual fan like myself it was outstanding. If I had more time, I'd go on at length.
So much of it is back to basics:
- Bond calls for help on a tiny, secret radio - The Aston Martin DB5 - Ejection seat - Cyanide suicide capsule in a false tooth - A disfigured villain - Both Q and Sylva overly rely on the powers of technology while Bond gets things done with a knife
The score by Thomas Newman's a banger, too.
Skyfall felt less dark and gritty and more like a love letter to classic spy tropes.
