Schedule Issue

So, my wife and I recently received a number of texts (in group chat) of a group of our friends planning a dinner get together for an upcoming weekend (happens to be 11/4). Now, this has been a frequent area of discussion over the years, because my wife knows the importance to me of watching Clemson - many occasions that I have declined invitations to parties, etc. over my team, of course making my wife unhappy. For this dinner get-together, I basically told my wife and friends to include me in the reservation count (going to be 10), but if the Notre Dame game happens to be a night game, I'm staying home (to watch the kids, of course - 9 & 12, so won't need a sitter). Checking the schedule for 11/4 and trying to predict whether this would likely be a night game - this is one weekend that a noon game would be really nice - to make wife happy. Any predictions of how the TV gods will proceed with the scheduling?

Home game vs ranked opponent usually equates to a nooner when CU is involved. I wouldn’t lose hope yet!

Never a good idea to put Clemson FB team above your wife if you are happily married and want to remain happily married. Also not a good look for your wife among her friends. Record the game and go make your wife happy. You can sneak a peek at the game every now and then on your cell phone. Discreetly, of course.
You say this has been a topic of frequent discussion over the years. I bet those frequent discussions have taken place because your wife thinks you love Clemson FB more than her. Perceived impressions are often just as real to the perceiver as the real deal. Don't ever make your wife think you love Clemson FB more than her. And you may be setting a bad example for your children when it comes to priorities. God, family (wife & children) and then whatever else. Clemson FB is not among the top 3.
I'm happily married for 56 years to the same woman whom I met at Clemson 3 years before we married. I graduated first and waited until she was in her last semester before we married.
Good luck with your decision.

YouTubeTV has been a blessing this year for this reason. I have five kids, four of whom are 5 and under. I used to be an irritable jack-55 if I had to miss one second of my Tigers being on the field. Having the game being recorded, I enjoy pausing and attending to whatever I have to then going back to it. Added bonus is skipping commercials and halftime and watching the replays as many times as I want.
So much better for the wife and kids too, not having to deal with Dad acting like the toddler. The Mrs. is incredible and puts up with my fanaticism - she won a lot of points when she had the 2019 Fiesta Bowl against O310 State playing in the delivery room.

Why couldn't have been the Charleston Southern game? Haha. Good advice - you are certainly wiser than I am.

Would you practice what you preach if it was a CFP game that Clemson was playing, and your wife made plans for that night. Marriage is a 2 way street, right?

My wife also loves watching the Tigers, so she wouldn't deliberately schedule an event to coincide with a game. However, best to defer and take the ball in the second half - in other words, go on the date and record the game then watch it after. Happy wife, happy life.
Also, if you defer a few times throughout the season, you can rack up some good credit that will make her think twice about interrupting something as big as a CFP game.

Since my wife is a Clemson grad and loves to watch and attend Clemson games as much as I, she would never schedule anything on the day/night of the biggest Clemson reg. season game of the yr. But if she did, I would go. She did get tickets to a concert on the night Clemson played a CFP game and we went. Who knew in advance that that game would happen. And we kept up with it on our cell phones. It was also a concert I really enjoyed which helped us both. I agree marriage is a two way street but you have to remember women don't see everything in the same light as men. Thank goodness.

As a woman, I am going to put a different angle on this. The wife should not put you in the position of having to decide which activity to do.

My wife knows better than to schedule something on a Saturday September- Thanksgiving. What really stunk was he B-Day is on 12-29! So I have ended up with playoff games being on her b-day. She got sick once so I got really lucky.
Mind you I don’t watch any other sports religiously these days. So she has me all the other times.

What great luck you had that the 2019 Fiesta Bowl was the day before. That would have been a hard one to miss! An epic game - one day I will watch it with my youngest daughter and tell her the exact play she was born on.

LSU vs Bama Washington vs USC (real)
These are the two big games we will be competing against. West coast game could fall into the primetime night slot. LSU - Bama...I think Saban likes the 3;30 games, so I don't know.

Hope your luck will be better than mine was. My daughter scheduled our granddaughter’s birthday party for September 23 from 9:30 AM - noon. I was so hoping for a night game vs FSU. We all know how that turned out. Family does come first.

7 home games and 52 Saturdays in a year. The other side of the coin is that if it’s important to your spouse to watch a game that doesn’t dominate the Saturday’s, plan parties on the other 45 weekends or ….12/40 if watching all season games is a want. Making the spouse happy works both ways or at least it should be that way.

Much different story if you have tickets and plan to go to the game. Otherwise, I am content with the recordings. Just as long as I don't have to find out the score before I get to watch the game.
