Question for all Clemson alumni

Random question but what year did you graduate from Clemson? Also, what’s your favorite memory from your time as a student at Clemson?
I graduated last year, and I am feeling nostalgic today (I know it’s only been a year but still).

No trap here. Some may call me boring but I enjoy hearing other people’s stories from their years at Clemson.

I left the Roanoke Colony in 1586 to attend Clemson. Graduated in 1589 with a degree in Dirt & Ditching (Think they call it Civil Engineering now).
Never could find "home" again.

True story…I worked in Fike during Summer school in the “equipment group”. Which means I gave out and retrieved jock straps, towels, tshirts, shorts, etc from anyone who Checked them out. The Perry brothers loved to high dive. I had to wash their sweaty jocks many times, but they were great guys…

Favorite memory is meeting my wife there.
Second favorite is a tie between seeing the 45-0 beatdown in Columbia in person followed a little more than a month later by traveling to Jacksonville to see what we didn’t know would be Coach Ford’s last game (Gator Bowl vs WVU).

I couldn’t say it better myself. When I was in high school and always heard people saying this, I thought no way it can truly feel like home.
They weren’t lying one bit. The memories, people, and moments I’ve experienced at Clemson has been one of the best things in my life. Truly blessed and thankful for what Clemson has done for me.

Too many memories to count but three that standout for me:
Winning the 1981 football National Championship my Freshman year.
Playing for and winning the national championship in men's soccer in 1984.
Winning the national championship in men's soccer again in 1987. I was a grad assistant that year instead of a player.

I was stationed in Ft Lewis WA when y’all came to play the natty so I drove up from Tacoma and got to see you win that championship! Long way from home and I think there may have been 2000 people in the Kingdome that day. Good memories.

A couple of things I rememeber about that trip and that game

Beating UCLA and Indiana to win the National Championship was HUGE and avenged two losses to them earlier in the season.
In fact, we opened the 84 season with a big win over the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, the UConn Huskies. Maybe that win went to our heads a little bit because we went 4-3 over the next 7 games with losses to UCLA, Indiana and Duke. I can remember Coach Ibrahim chewing our a$$es out after the Duke loss. He also made some changes to the lineup. We would go 17-1 over the next 18 games. That loss would be to UVa late in the season. We avenged that loss in the quarter finals of the NCAA tournament. We beat the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 seeds in the tournament to win the championship. which was the first time in tournament history that a team had beaten the top four teams to win the championship.
The other thing that I oddly remember, playing in the Kingdome was one of the few times we played on astroturf all season, so the indoor shoes I wore were still pretty new and had not been broken in very well yet, and they hurt my feet.

2010 here, ‘07 Labor Day FSU game, spot on the hill first row, so I was unwillingly one of the idiots to rush the field 3 times at the end of the game but got to look down the scope so to speak at the James Davis jersey pull. ‘08 snow day was pretty fun too, raiding Harcomb for lunch trays then sliding down into Lot 5 all liquored up

Class of 1979.
Best Sports memories: 1. Was being in Columbia when Butler made the catch to beat the Coots. 2. Watching Tree battle against Lefty and the Maryland Terps. 3. The Notre Dame game with Joe Montana even though we lost the direction of football had turned.
Others: going to the Buffett concert in Tillman, the midnight pep rally's at the amphitheater, playing softball in the spring and summer, cute girls everywhere.

May 72.... Long story but it took me 5 years. Hard to say but Dec. 1 1969 comes to mind. Spent the evening at Red Carpet beer hall downtown with drinking buddies while monitoring the Western Union teletype in the window next door until my draft lottery # came over the ticker tape. It was a late night (#304). Jackpot

Too many memories.
Football games - especially the 81 season
BBall at Fike. Had the opportunity to play with many of the football players of that time.
The Bookstore and Pennie Annie’s - probably some things I don’t remember from those too
Bengal Ball - same as above
The time someone threw a mannequin off the roof of Manning during finals week while we were all waiting for midnight breakfast at Schilletter to start.
Dairy Products Judging Team trip to national finals in New Orleans - oh boy!

showing him how to throw a pot. Actually, I don't remember much about him using the wheel.
The lifelong memory came after I showed him how to clean the wheel off. Everyone brought a bath towel to the pottery lab to clean their hands, tools and the equipment including the wheel.
I showed Josh how to put a wet towel in the center of the wheel then push down on the power pedal and slowly move the towel toward the edge of the wheel.
Evidently I was standing up when I showed him and perhaps that's why he did it standing up. The problem he had was he hit the gas when he pushed on the pedal and the flying wheel grabbed the towel and slapped him several times across the butt before I could stop it.
I think he was so stunned by the accident that he couldn't function and was standing there screaming his lungs out over the whipping he was taking. Four or five other students came into the room and Lit Josh was standing their crying. They looked at me like you'd look at any child abuser and I was laughing too hard to explain.

'80. "The Catch" game at the Roach. Had great seats on the 50 in those real seats they had. Watched all the coots around us leave at the half and then they started magically appearing again in the 3rd and 4th quarter and started their same old crap. So much fun watching Fuller complete that pass to Butler and the reactions of all of those losers. That was the first year we painted the paws from Tigertown to Cooterville. The fun we had on D-3 too.

December ‘93. Civil Engineering. Favorite memory is just being on campus. A place I had grown up knowing I would attend. Enjoyed almost all of it. Johnstone, bowman, Lowry. Can still smell it (some good some bad).
By far the biggest thrill now is having a daughter who just graduated ‘21 in Civil and another who will be ‘25 in Architecture. What a blessing for my kids to go there. Never thought about it much but it’s a proud thing.

It is a very proud thing. My daughter graduated in 2017 and was the Tiger Cub mascot for the 2014-2016 football seasons. Her last football game in the suit was the national championship game in Tampa. So much fun watching her be involved in some of the best times in Clemson football history.

Hard to single out a single favorite memory; after all, I met my wife at Clemson, so how could I answer anything else?
If I had to go with a non-romantic memory, probably going to Tallahassee in 1989. Will never forget that trip. But there were many others. In fact my son, who graduated a couple of years ago, really struggled at first, because all he had heard his whole life from both parents was how awesome Clemson was, and how our time there was the best four years of our lives. When it didn't happen immediately, he thought we had BSed him all that time. NOW he gets it.

One of my best memories were the quad parties after home football games in the mid 80s. Thousands of students packed in the quad. Music pumping from every frat house. Kegs flowing, etc., etc.

Alumni giving office called me this evening asking for my annual pledge. I was polite and told them I wouldn't be making a decision until the end of the year. My decision has nothing to do with any sports team or coach, but it does have everything about Clemson becoming a woke southern college. When the news broke about the tampon dispensers in the library men's bathrooms, I was appalled. Silly young students can have their opinions and signs, but the university does not have to become a supporter of the insanity. My decision is, I will not be giving to Clemson for the foreseeable future.

Class of ‘94. Too many good memories and life long friends made to narrow down. Being from California I didn’t know as much about Clemson going in as many, but I quickly knew I had made the right choice. Daughter is a freshman now and in Tiger Band. Sharing a bond like that with her is pretty cool.

Top two memories would be riding the bus and running down the hill with the team before last home game, or having sex with my ex-girlfriend in the end East end zone the night I graduated.

BS in Civil in 92. Too many to narrow down....
Playing basketball with Michael Dean Perry on a 9' rim at Issaqueena Trail Apts. Yep, he dunked on me several times, but I got one too! Parties at Y Beach. Sonny's 123 Truck Stop after TTT closed. Parties at the Quad, although they started clamping down on those around 89-90. Seeing some incredible basketball in Littlejohn (mostly mid/late 80s). The huge blow up dolls at the Rolling Stones concert in Death Valley. Chanelos and Pizza Pub (when we had a few extra bucks). Food fight during exams at Harcombe. Occasional lunch at Schilletter (on the other side of campus) to see the girls. Graduation, because.....a lot of people would get their diploma, then leave. That left a lot of empty seats on the floor. In 92, there were not a lot of civil engineering jobs so I had a job at a fish camp (restaurant) after graduation. I received my diploma then went back to my seat, beside another guy that didn't have a job yet. As we sat there, I asked him "Should we leave too", and he said "He$$ no, I earned this and am going to sit here until it's over". Which we did.

Dec 2001 and Aug 2003. I loved the summers around clemson when most of the students were gone just hanging out with good friends working toward common goals. Loved the baseball games, midnight cookies, working with 3ct. So many more, Wonderful years.

Class of 1981.
Ice skating on the reflection pond in front of the Cooper Library in January of 1977. Cold as a witch's t_t that week.
Secondly, following the Tiger Paws painted from Greenville to Cooterville on US Hwy 276 (then) and I-26 to Billy Brice in the fall of 1977.
Lasty, the season that sent us to the natty in Miami in 1981

1988 here.
Too many great memories so here’s a painful/ humorous one
Pretty sure it was 10/31/87…it was a Saturday, noon football game. It was also the day that they held the Enigneering in training exam nationwide. It’s an 8 hour exam full of everything you ever learned in a science class that wasn’t biological in nature.
They held it in Riggs hall. We started at 8 am, break for lunch at 11, just in time for all the folks going to the game to stream past us poor nerds on their way to the stadium.
It was a beautiful day, so they opened the windows in Riggs hall. All afternoon, we could hear the cheers from the stadium, as we suffered through the 2000 questions on that exam.
Finished the exam at 4 ish. Wandered down to TTT with a buddy to bury our suffering of the past 8 hrs.
4 weeks later I got the letter that said I passed the test!

My favorite times were at Summer classes. I like that time of year due to the fact tbat everyone hungout together. People that were in frats and soroities and people who were not all hungout together. Athletes hungout more with students too. It was great. Everyone hungout together. I enjoyed that.

Great call. I was going to say this, Summer in Clemson, for all the reasons you mentioned. As great as Clemson is on every day of the year, summers are next level.
Whenever I meet a Clemson grad who never did a summer there it feels like they missed out on one of the all time great Clemson experiences.

1986 and I was on the 5 year plan so I was a freshman in 1981. That football season, cool fall nights downtown and Bowman field during homecoming week. I still recall those days a lot.

C/o 2018 here. To be honest, my favorite memory was walking across the stage at Littlejohn at graduation because there were times I thought for sure I’d never make it.
Other than that, its gotta be the Louisville game in 16 - got up at 3 am with my roommates to get to Bowman for College Gameday and laid my head back down at 2 the following morning.
