a great place to start testing the waters in the portal pool.
Can we get more talent, better physicality? Proven big men who play on crappy teams that have the opportunity to come play with some of the nations best QB’s, WRU, TE’s, RB’s!
Jump in, the water’s fine!
Go Tigers!

Or we might just want to trust in our two time national championship head coach to know what he is doing. I know I know. Strange philosophy right?

That is YOUR perspective whiny. I hear there are high schools all over the country looking for the "expertise" you seem to have. Why not put your negativity to a positive use since you seem to feel you have the answers. We already have a head coach we are happy with. Sounds to me right now that we got to the semis in spite of you

the OL, but I totally understand why someone as clueless as yourself can't ascertain what was really going on and just cling to attacking the messenger and platitudes about Dabo...Out OL was horrendous this year, as bad as it has been under Dabo, and if you can't see it, that's on you

You are truly amazing in your stupidity. We were in the semi finals last year. I know you don't want to see it but you don't get that far with a bad online. Again go coach a football team but make sure you get a huge buyout.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread but I’m a glass half full, sunshine pumper.
And our OL was bad this year. Maybe as bad as we’ve been.
Whether it’s coaching or talent, that’s up to Dabo to decide but it seems it could be both.

PFF ranked Clemson OL at 19th in country for what it’s worth. After losing 4 starters the previous year I’m wondering what the fuss is about. So fire Dabo if he’s not performing as coach.

They were competent. Just not elite enough vs national championship quality.
The portal changes the game in regards to developmental prospects for us too. When it comes to o-line recruiting we usually get 1-2 studs, but we are a notch below UGA and the elite o-line recruiting teams. There is also opportunity cost when we use the development player scholarships for potential elite recruits elsewhere. Between transfers, injuries, busts, etc...it’s easy to get thin quick. The portal can help add depth in a pinch and maybe get a guy that we wanted out of HS but chose somewhere else and realized they made the wrong call.
We can add transfers and keep a strong culture, it shouldn’t be mutually exclusive.

And he doesn’t always make the correct move. Like when he ranked Ohio State 11.
Idk why we can’t use the transfer portal.

I am sure it appears that way to you given your lack of knowledge & experience on how to build a championship team. For a keyboard coach, it’s like a video game where the only thing that matters is talent. The real world is much different else UGA would have been in the playoffs every freaking year.
FWIW we have a full compliment of players on the OL with a nice mix of talent and experience

o Line players in the transfer portal are ones that could not start on their own team. Why do you want someone else's rejects?

We would have take Morris from TN in a second and he would probably be a starter or give us a lot of flexibility. This shouldn’t be an all or nothing discussion.

I think he's doing stuff, it's just in typical Dabo fashion he often does it behind the scenes and not all at once and definitely not in a$$hole fashion. That has rarely been his way.
Thomas Austin's arrival is what turned my head. He did some good stuff with Georgia State's OL - they ranked 39th overall out of 130 D1 squads in rushing offense last year, which is pretty durn good for a Sun Belt squad! - and he's built a very good rep in the coaching community. I suspect he did not come back to Clemson to be some back-bench "analyst".
I've got a sneaky suspicion some moves might be afoot, probably akin to the one that saw Elliott take over the TE's and Danny Pearman get moved off the recruiting trail and coaching role and into a more administrative role. I very much doubt Dabo wants to completely part ways with Robbie Caldwell, who's been an integral part of the Clemson family for ten years now and is as good a guy as you'll find and a tremendous resource...but I do very much have this suspicion it might be Austin coaching the OL when Fall camp opens, too. Be interesting to see how the official reshuffling of roles goes, because two things I have seldom seen from Dabo are either blindness or complacency and our OL definitely does need to get better...and I suspect one way or another it's going to.

I think we like our OL we have recruited and the direction we are going all the way until our 2022 class and we should just stay the course. We have turned the corner and they just need to mature. I don't think OL will be an issue again within a year. I also think it will be improved this year too. After that we will have some great OL's.
