How fast was Trevor Lawrence on Etienne's TD run? Really fast, according to Etienne
On the first play from scrimmage in last Saturday’s ACC Championship Game, Clemson running back Travis Etienne made a move towards the sideline and then turned upfield, splitting two defenders at midfield and racing for the end zone. As he reached the 20-yard line, he noticed one of his teammates in his peripheral vision, but the flash of blonde hair couldn’t be right. Could it really have been Tr Full Story » |

Same here. I knew Hunter was quick and had speed, but not that kind of speed. Maybe I should have asked some Coot defensive backs!

Love to hear that news. Knew he can catch, run great routes, and play smart. But speed is the key asset you cannot gain thru hard work. Now with some weight training and a little weight gain, Hunter will be ready to compete at the combine. Rock on Hunter!

I have been talking about that since it happened on here, and it's hard to believe that T-Net is just saying something about it. I've mentioned in several post how Trevor hitting the foot of the defender and taking him out of his stride, and yes, I thought it to be amazing the speed that TL has when he gets his legs stretched out on the run. But I have been talking about the way he can scramble out of trouble since he was in HS. I personally have never seen a 6'6" guy that can move as fast as Trevor can!!! Our QB has a badazz set of wheels on him!!!

it's quite a bit of apples to oranges

unbeknownst to most.... first, the ball carrier doesn't have a free arm 'cause he's holding the football - that matters, in fractions... second, the ball carrier has spent a lot of energy in eluding and cutting especially in the initial parts of the run. He's essentially finishing up a modified steeple chase, whereas a pursuant like a QB especially has gone on a dead sprint unencumbered. Crazy legs even moreso, because he runs so low and spread-eagled, which helps him break tackles. Not saying that TL's not fast either, but I believe it's his top end speed after he gets going that really picks up on the meter.
thought I'd try to 'splain it

Exactly...and ETN on an angle too--before they crossed, TL was taking a shorter path to that point than ETN, who was running right to left a bit.

I think the real point, is that TL had the hustle and desire to help down field. He was ready to throw a block, or run interference, but pulled back knowing he would have been flagged. Football smarts, eh?

I agree that holding a football slows a player down along with wearing a heavier and bulkier uniform. But think how fast they are running at too speed. Their top speed equivalent to 40 meter is: Trevor - 4.34 ETN - 4.26 Renfrow - 4.20
That's fast!!!

bear in mind that a typical 40 yard dash time includes time to accelerate to top speed. Your calculations assume top speed the whole way. In any event, some great speed on the field.

That is ridiculous speed for a QB
Dec 6, 2018, 8:59 AM
|
|
20.6 MPH equals 10.7 Yards Per Second. Let that sink in for a bit. 20.6 mph is elite level speed for any position.
When running the 40, you won't hit top speed until the last half of that sprint. So, we can't extrapolate this speed to a 40 yard dash time of under 4 seconds. BUT, Trevor could legitimately have sub-4.5 speed. I'm guessing he's near 4.65.
I feel extremely confident that he would have been the fastest QB in the NFL combine last year. Only 5 QBs were under 4.8, with the fastest (Quinton Flowers) at 4.63.
And if you've been paying attention this year, there was already an analysis of TL's ball velocity compared to NFL QBs. He smoked them all. So, TL can run faster and throw harder than most, if not all, NFL QBs.

Without that exceptional block Tee held on to that run wouldn't have gone the distance. As a former offensive linemen I highly respect well blocking WRs. It's crazy seeing how fundamentally sound this team is running right now!

Man... ETN is so humble. Every time he is complemented in an interview he finds a way to turn it around to praise his teammates. It’s rare to see such a talented athlete with such humility.
People like baker mayfield could learn a thing or two from this young man...

You're not allowing for the arc or technically the indefinite integral. We can integrate a function between two points on the field, the point from which he throws and the point where he catches. He can certainly adjust the speed of his pass to allow for optimal arc, Oh wait... I think there's a rule where the passer is not allowed to catch his own pass. Nevermind

It was an excellent team play!! This play even featured QB going an extra mile to tackle a defender with a baby giraffe speed!! I have always said whenever I see Travor scrambling; “there goes our giraffe!!” Go Trevor “BG” Lawrence!! That’s TLBG! It could be Travor Lawrence baby or BIG giraffe!! Go Tigers!!

This also puts ND on high alert, you better watched out for that 6'6" QB, he is capable of speeds we haven't seen from a QB that we have played. That play puts everybody we play from here to the end of his career at Clemson that TL can hurt them with his arm and his feet, and I don't think we will be seeing to many teams stack the box on us. Without the ball in his hands, that run with ETN puts all teams on alert!!!

That's why I want to see TLL run the ball 1-2 times a game. Keep the defense honest and he is going to break a long run one of these days with that speed.

I still think Travis is having some Hamstring soreness problems. This time last year he would have left everyone on the field 20 yards back on that run. He is still awesome, but his top gear seems a bit slower than usual in the last 2-3 games.

He ran a 100 Meter in 10.42 - which is 21.47MPH. Granted, that is without a uniform on, and on a track. But, that is the AVERAGE speed for almost 110 yards. I'm sure his top speed is up there with a uniform on.

Hmmmm.. running without a uniform, that's STREAKING..
I know, because that was a popular "campus activity" my Freshman year '73..
I still remember the guy that streaked through Harcombe Dining at dinner hour, (before it was remodeled and made smaller). He streaked all the way to the other side, only to find the door locked. Thus, he had to streak back through.. to MUCH hysterical laughter.. No one was clocking him.. at least, that I'm aware..
