I have an a friend that is convinced that next year’s

football season will be canceled. My thoughts are that we are talking about five months away, and if we are still in this situation, we will be in a world of hurt.

My highly uneducated take is that without a vaccine there will have to be enough of the population exposed and become immune to become a barrier to the rapid spread we are seeing. With these draconian measures we are seeing hopefully it will slow things down so there will be less of an overwhelming spike that medical facilities can manage the flow. Thas what I thinks.

If enough people have been exposed then we’re looking at a million deaths.
And there is no scientific evidence that you can’t get this twice yet

inflation will be 100 fold as we print and give out money. The banks will own your house but have no one to sell to.
We will all be on welfare. Or we suck it up and go back to work and deal with sickness and death.

Impossible to have a vaccine in less than 12-18 months ...

if ever. And most likely, any vaccine will only be good for previous versions of this virus, not newly mutated ones, which is just like the flu. That's why you have to get a flu shot every year. They try to guess which versions will be active each year, but they can't guess about new strains. Those can't be vaccinated against, until they start to infect large numbers of people.

Eh, not true. Most viruses don’t mutate in mass effect. This is nothing like seasonal influenza. It’s SARS

The virus actually is not that bad, honestly all data says it is less deadly than yearly influenza cases. If all is the same in 5 months, we have to re-start the economy at some point-- it is all a risk/reward--similar to driving a car. We could make the speed limits 10MPH nation wide and drastically reduce auto deaths, but consumers, government, producers have decided that it is more valuable to get places faster, than reduce deaths. This is no different. NFL and CFB make the economy too much money in too many markets. This virus seems more deadly at the moment because we have not tested the entire country, we will get to a point where we have to put the economy at the forefront and just weigh the risk reward. We are making major economic decisions without considering all the costs. The smarter play is to allow everyone under the age of 60 to go about their normal lives while everyone above 60 should be self-quarantined for 2-6 weeks--which is what will happen in 5 months if we are in the same spot as we are now, or worse (in terms of total deaths/rates/percents).
We have embarked upon a huge national experiment without considering most of the economic costs--but at some point we will change our course/direction, the more data we get. Joblessness kills millions every year. A broken economy has a massive cost. Every day in our economy we make decisions that cause deaths because we decide the economic benefit is worth it. Cars, alcohol, fast food, all of these things kill people, often much more than viruses do. We have never shut down the national economy for a virus before.
So a long winded way of saying, we will have football, no matter what come August/September. It will not be a decisions that ends the world, it will be simple logi we should have used from the get go, but I understand the questions on the unknown, but the facts will continue to support the evidence we currently have.
I can't wait to pound GT, the SEC and win it all in 2020-2021... Trevor/Travis for Heisman--Go Tigers!

Bruh. There’s is nothing that has said this is less deadly than flu. It is 2x as contagious, has 10x mortality, and 5-6x hospitalization rate. You’ll die first

Well thank you so much for telling me I "will die first" and "be poor in 6 months" based off 3 paragraphs that I wrote, without knowing me at all--we could definitely use your help and expertise with solving the economic issues this pandemic is causing and it sounds like controlling the outbreak as well! SO your talents are being vastly underused as a "Life Science researcher".
The biggest thing everyone can do is read some articles about the sheer numbers, facts and medical journals/tracking--that are not confirmation biased articles or news outlets and reporting, but expose yourself to things that make you think differently and more analytically. I just do not understand the coronavirus groupies who gather on here to share worst case scenarios and dismiss everyone who has an opinion different than their own, even wishing death on them--makes you wonder is these people are real and really exist.
A small data set from which to draw big conclusions. Still, it is entirely aligned with the data from other countries. The deaths have been mainly clustered among the elderly, those with significant chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease, and those in both groups. This is not true of infectious scourges such as influenza. The flu hits the elderly and chronically ill hard, too, but it also kills children. The clustering of complications and death from Covid-19 among the elderly and chronically ill, but not children (there have been only very rare deaths in children), suggests that we could achieve the crucial goals of social distancing — saving lives and not overwhelming our medical system — by preferentially protecting the medically frail and those over age 60, and in particular those over 70 and 80, from exposure.
As of last night, in the US, we have tested 150,613 people (and we are only testing those who think they are sick) and 19,155 have tested positive--so of everyone sick, that thinks they have this thing, 12.7% are actually testing positive, with 250 deaths so far, so 1.3% have died so far. The issue is we are not testing everyone, to get real mortality and infection rates. How many others have it but are asymptomatic, how many had a cold but never got tested but did have it? We are taking facts in a vacuum and spinning them how we want, to back our wants and beliefs and it is shocking how many people want this thing to be the end of the world and love subjects involving fear, designed to create dissension & terrorize--and so they can tell people with different opinions they will die and be poor very soon.
Anyway, I would recommend doing yourself a favor and reading somethings that would make you a little uncomfortable and not only exposing yourself to confirmed your already developed biases, and maybe stop telling people they will die and be poor on social media, and share a little love during these tough times ">

Yet another stupid post. ~80% of tests have not gotten results back yet. You have no idea of the true rate yet because we don’t have all the results.
You literally asked us to read peer reviewed journals on a pandemic that is still in the early stages. Do you even know how peer reviewed articles work? Feel free to read them... in 6 months

Average age of those dying from Corona is people in 80's

If you're younger than 50, you almost certainly will have no symptoms, or very mild symptoms. 86% of people who test positive don't even know that they have corona.

Many of the medical people have said this virus hates heat. Heat destroys it. So as the warmer weather arrives, it will die of its own flaw. However, travellers or foreigners coming from places of cold weather may bring it with them during the summer months.

No one has ever said this about SARS-Cov-2.
Heat doesn’t kill it. Your body is 98.6 degrees, moron.
Warmer/humid weather increase the thickness of your mucosal membrane which helps protect your body against influenza but no one has any idea if it helps against SARS-Cov-2.
Please stop spreading misinformation

California projects over 50% will have the virus in 8 weeks.

Bad news but to look on the bright side, that means over 50% will have had and been over the condition. Unfortunately some will die and that is tragic. I’m not making light of that or down playing it. But once over half has had it and are likely in no danger of getting again (this certainly isn’t proven and could end up seasonal)—shouldn’t these folks get to live a normal life? I wish a test would be developed to test for abs. Cause if you’ve had and aren’t sick and has been more than 14 days, then get after it I say.

The FDA will have a lot to say about any vaccine discovery. This is an unusual case but, as a rule, they require long periods of testing

So you’re saying after 10% of all people over 65 die and the nations death total reaches 10M and our economy is crushed, we should just get back to playing football?
Statistically 1-2 football staffers will likely be dead by the CFP

Well, most people posting on here will be poor in 6 months. Luckily I work in Life science research sales and my wife is a physical therapist, but 50-60% of people will be broke soon. No one will be going to football games because they’ll be homeless

So bc you are in life science research sales and your wife is a physical therapist you aren't going to feel the effects of the economy....well aren't you just so smart and high achieving. Way to be a d###. We clearly can't do much about the situation so just relax and protect the people around you.

Agreed! Once we get rid of 1-3% of all human life will be good to go!
Unfortunately this isn’t like Thanos’s snap and they’re gone in an instant, instead it’s a slow painful death that bogs down our medical system.
But guys, Lovingit really wants to go to Hooters and his favorite BBQ joint

IMO, there's a 50/50 chance the College Football and NFL seasons will start late and/or have some kind of adjustment to schedules and number of games played.
When the number of cases continue to double every day and a half (or so), and we still haven't hit 100K confirmed cases, it's going to be here a while.
