2012 Recruiting Class; Who avoids a Redshirt

Granted its still very early. And theres still alot of work to be done this summer. But I thought I would rank the 2012 recruiting class based on who I thought had the best chance to play in 2012 (let me know if theres some you would rank higher or lower)
FIRST GROUP (sure thing)
#1- P Bradley Pinion..2 things say hes our starting punter vs Auburn;Unbelivable talent, and little compet- tion heading into the fall.Plus hes already got his foot in the door by enrolling early.
#2- DB Travis Blanks..like Pinion.Blanks was an early enrollee.DC Brent Venables is very high on the young man from Tallahassee who has shown already that he can play about 3 different positions.
#3- OL Isaiah Battle..in 012,Battle might be the most talented OL on campus. But he'll need a year to get bigger and stronger.
#4- DL Carlos Watkins..I think the biggest part of getting Watkins to Clemson, was promising him he would play as a true freshman. Personally, I don't see him beating out Jerrett or D. Williams. But Watkins will see the field in 2012.
#5- DE Shaq Lawson..tremedous upside, plus a lack of depth on the Clemson D-line. Says Lawson sees the field as a freshman. If hes not quite ready,Aiken gets the nod.
2ND GROUP (PROBABILITY)
#6- DL Martin Aiken #7- RB Zac Brooks
3RD GROUP (ITS POSSIBLE)
#8- DL Kevin Dodd #9- DB R.Geohaghan #10- DT DJ Reader #11- TE JJ McCullough
4TH GROUP (NOT LIKELY)
#12- WR Gerome Hopper #13 DB C. Tankersley #14- LB TJ Burrell #15- QB Chad Kelly #16- DB Marty Williams
5TH GROUP (LITTLE CHANCE/WILL RED SHIRT)
#17- OL Oliver Jones #18- C Jay Gullermo #19- OL Patrick Destefano #20- DL Josh Brown (juoc?)
thoughts? #21

Pinion, Blanks, Watkins hopefully will be the only ones.

I hope we can redshirt Battle and Lawson. Plus, Brooks will be a RS, IMO. I don't see how he could not be without injuries.

I think you are pretty close, of course all of this is subjective. But I think Kevin Dodd should be up higher due to his early enrollment and is working behind goodman right now at SS DE.
Also I don't think Chad Kelly is going to redshirt. I think they will have some packages to work in for him to have a more mobile qb.
Also, I don't think anybody should be in the Little Chance/Will redshirt category except for Josh Brown and Oliver Jones. Apparently Guillermo and Destefano have been impressive to the coaches. And if Kalon Davis can't play LG then Ryan norton would have to be in the guard rotation and another center has to be available which is guillermo.
Interesting thread though. point

I kinda thought the same thing about Kelly. I think they put in some packages similar to what Florida did with Tebow as a freshman.

Qb vs OL

thanks 4 the reponse...
As far as Kalon Davis, I think he'll be fine. In fact,I had him as one of my break out players for 2012 listed back in Nov of 2011.
QB-Kelly..I guess its possible he could play in 2012. But he would have a huge uphill climb once he gets onto campus. And I would be highly disappointed if Cole Stoudt wasn't ready for the challenge,as well as Boyd.
And finally.. of course everyone has a shot to play as a true fr.But most aren't likely, right.Otherwise, you're correct. #21

I understand that line of thinking, and you may be correct.

However, Hopper is a very dynamic player and may just be too good to keep off the field, especially considering how many WRs we use throughout the course of a season, or even one game. He could be a threat in the return game as well.

I don't see any way in #### Kelly plays a single snap

unless Tajh gets hurt and Stoudt and Roberts really stink it up.
Having said that, the best guy will play. If it turns out that Kelly is the best available at any given time, then he will play. He's very talented and he could prove me wrong, but I just don't see him being more ready to run the team than any of the 3 in front of him at any point this season, and no way his redsirt gets wasted just to get him in on a few special packages or to get him some experience.

Watkins and Reader might avoid the red-shirt. Barnes seems like a really light DT, and they've talked about possibly making this move. Plus, these two freshmen would work behind (somewhat) experienced starters.

U're correct..I have heard myself they are considering moving him to DE.That way, your rotation at Def tackle would "probably" look like this....
Jerrett/Watkins Williams/Watson
then the DEs would be; Goodman/Barnes Crawford/Beasley #21

I see Pinion, Blanks & Watkins as starters sometime in the 2012 season.
I see Geohaghan as a sleeper but unsure of redshirt status.
Hate to waste redshirt years for true frosh who are non-starters (i.e. Bellamy, Steward, Lateek)... but believe Dabo and coordinators must commit to not redshirt a handful of H.S. superstar recruits for them to enroll at Clemson. It is what it is, but I like the hidden potential and see several sleepers in this class.
