IMO we not only closed it, but surpassed it. Listen to Noah and the other young men speak. We have quality, not quantity.
Restocking quantity gets you nothing, development of good men does!!!!
WE (Clemson) are now setting the standard. Aka bits.

So how did having the "overall more talented team" work out for them?

I think that is highly debatable. Watson did make a difference but I think we are just as talented

The recruiting rankings are a good barometer of the quality of recruits. However various services uses different criteria to make their rankings. Some rankings rate classes higher because they sign a large number every year. FSU does this. If you look at Clemsons classes over the last few years, we had smaller classes but the players star ratings were 4 star or 5 star. Almost all of them have had offers from the big boys. We have caught up with FSU if not gone past them.

If we didn't bring in Ricky Dink players like Hunter Renfro! That really hurts us. Hope we can continue this recruiting foul up! Coaching these four stars into five star college players means a little something too.

A fair assessment IMO. FSU has been a brand for 25 years.

We are just now becoming one. However, I do believe our development and coaching (venebles) has made a huge difference. We are 3 years away from this story being "How do we close the gap?"

Recruiting rankings are not the end-all be-all.
On paper, yeah, the Seminoles have recruited better talent. So has Alabama. So have several other programs - including that Ohio State program we just beat 31-0, Southern Cal, LSU, and several others (Oklahoma, UGA and Michigan spring to mind) - actually, I think Notre Dame, on paper, has "outrecruited" Clemson.
They aren't beating Clemson on the field, because recruiting rankings don't measure culture, and they certainly don't measure player development.
Yes, yes, it's wonderful that you can lure talented young men into your program, Florida State, Ohio State, Alabama. But what are you doing with them? What's your attrition like? What's your grad rate like? How many kids quit or are run off early?
Do you have a healthy locker room, a healthy relationship between coaches and players? Do players form cliques and rivalries, tear each other apart in the locker room and off the field? Is there a sense of brotherhood, belonging, and comradery? Is the whole bigger than the sum of the parts? Do guys work hard for one another and themselves?
I very much doubt Clemson will "outrecruit" Florida State on paper - most years. But what's happening with our players after they set foot on campus is what really seems to be setting Clemson apart from the FSU's, the Oklahomas, the Ohio States...even the Alabamas. Our guys develop to their potential at an exceptional rate. At other places...not so much.
Just my take, anyhow.

I think you will find that the recruiting rankings mirror the top 25 pretty close. Dabo is attracting and signing 4 and 5 star players. We are developing them as well. The difference in Clemson and FSU is that we don't run off players to sign 25 every year. Just look at all the recruits who have visited so far . Most are 4 star kids with a lot of 5 star recruits in the mix. The star average in our class is just as good or better than FSUs class. They just sign more players.

It's interesting because there's no question that they've had the more "blockbuster" recruiting classes. However, I think it's fair to say that we've been able to coach up our talent better than they have, resulting in an overall talent level that is near-equal.
Yes, Deshaun Watson has been the difference maker the past couple of years, but I think most would say we've been better at WR and OL with probably a slight edge at DL as well. They've had the more talented secondary, RBs, and maybe Linebackers...though the gaps in most of these positions are pretty darn small.
It'll be interesting to see how things go now that we won't have such a difference maker on our side like Deshaun, meanwhile they'll have Francois in his second season. Let's see what happens for us this Spring!
