This is not aging well. Thoughts and prayers for the families. It’s always my hope in one of these situations that a trained and armed citizen is ready to end the chaos.

That's not supposed to be possible. Fact is, unless he jumped through some legal hoops he is not supposed to even have a gun.

Smells like another false flag where our Gov't winds someone up keeping the "gun control" narrative on their side.
False flag operations all look the same when you peak under the hood. Meanwhile, innocent people get hurt, or dead.

False flag or not this is not the opportunity to push a political agenda. This is a time for compassion and grief, and outrage against evil.

Compassion and outrage against evil? Indeed, now is not the time to push political agendas. But there's only one solution.
Americans need to return to our Christian-Judeo roots and praise God. He's the ONLY the solution.
Compassion and outrage against things like promoting murdering unborn babies (i.e abortion), censorship of 1st Amendment speech, anti-Semitism, hatred of Christianity, corruption, defamation, endless wars, sexual immorality, envy, etc....is what we should all be outraged at.
Evil isn't political. But when people support/promote things like that are promoting evil, and therefore are evil. There's no middle ground.

The bowling alley he shot up was having Children's Night Leagues.

Who leaves home to go bowling, on Children's Night, no less, thinking they might get shot before the night is over?
This was a mentally ill individual, who still was cognizant enough to strike at places where people felt safest, a bowling alley, and a bar / restaurant.
I would say, if you want to be safe, you have to stay home. But, with home invasions these days, even that is not the case.
I am sure it will upset gun owners, of which I am one, but I personally would like to see private ownership of these assault rifles banned. Or, at the very least, if you own one, you get put into a national "cradle to grave" type database, so the guns themselves can be tracked.

I don’t understand stand why banning this weapon is part of the solution?
Shotguns can now be bought off the shelf with 10-11round magazines. Each 00buckshot has 15. Copper plated giant pellets.
4-5 Handguns can be carried and loaded easily with 10-15 round magazines.
Knives, machetes, golf clubs….if someone is crazy enough to do this they will find a way no matter what the weapon of choice is. The carnage will ensue.

with a question. What recreational use, other than someone that just likes to make a lot of loud noise in a hurry, is there for a rapid fire assault style rifle? Shotguns are hunters weapons, which I own several of. Handguns are for personal protection, of which I also own one. As I said, I am a gun owner. But, even the most proficient users of those weapons could never come close to inflicting the damage of an assault rifle. Assault rifles, which ARE aptly named, have no place in the sporting world. They are a weapon that was designed specifically to kill humans. So, if you must have access to them to float your boat, have them available at gun ranges where you can rat-a-tat-tat away to your hearts content in a controlled environment. Again, I know there are enough 2nd Amendment diehards out there that think banning ANY gun is tantamount to banning EVERY gun, that legislation to ban these in private ownership will probably never happen. Doesn't mean it shouldn't.

I’m not going to try and further this debate cuz like you said we both have our opinions and no one on tnet will obviously sway them. But to answer your question of a purpose, there are hundreds of landowners/ranchers/farmers across this great country that are having their livelihoods decimated by wild pigs and coyotes. From Texas to Montana and California to South Carolina these intrusive species are growing rapidly. The use of “sporting rifles” is an excellent and efficient method of control those issues and protecting crops, livestock, and land in general from these threats.

I used to say the same thing about handguns which ARE specifically designed to kill people (I saw plenty of that in my ER experience) and have no other practical use outside of law enforcement and personal protection though arguably target shooting is a popular and practical sport especially those based on time. Still it’s practicing to shoot people.
The whole argument though hinges on the 2nd Amendment: we can’t pick & choose which firearms to ban. And opponents of 2A know that if they can get one sort of firearm banned the other dominoes will fall for them as well. Repeal of the Constitution is their only real hope IMO for banning guns but that seems to be what they want in the long run as well.
Currently there are many AR platform rifles in a variety of calibers used for hunting and they are very effective and practical. The AR-15 configuration is EXTREMELY flexible and can be modified to be very accurate as well. This is not true of its counterpart the AK-47. So yeah the AR (designation “Armalite” NOT “assault rifle”) is used extensively for hunting and competition shooting and law enforcement), not just for mass shootings. It may be argued that when used as a weapon in combat or a mass shooting it may rightly be called an assault rifle but it has many other applications outside of that.
One could also apply that term to the British Lee Enfield, the US Springfield .30-06 and M-1Garand and the Russian Moisin-Nagant rifles.

On top of what was already mentioned about the farmers etc… take your significant other to a range and hand them a pistol (even if it’s just 9mm) and let them shoot… then hand them an AR and you tell me what you see . I have options and the firearm I would choose every time for the previously mentioned home invasion would be my AR no doubt! There are so many advantages and if you don’t know them then it doesn’t matter at this point , just making a point. Most law abiding citizens aren’t just riding around with ARs all day for personal protection . But for home defense especially females/smaller stature ppl there is nothing better. What I choose to protect my family with is up should not be up to someone else as long as it’s legal .

I was in the Marine Corp and learned a few things. But years later in South Carolina taking my CWP course, I was taught to aim at someones frontal pelvis/front hip area. It's supposed jack em up good, stop and drop them in a God awful way. Then you aim in for the delete if necessary. Cool info.
