Situation in Northern Syria...
Oct 8, 2019, 6:59 AM

is insane as of Sunday. Trump and his asinine ways has now left the people who defeated ISIS open to genocide once again. If one care to learn something on the subject there are numerous articles spanning Turkey,Iraq and Syria on the internet.
We did not defeat ISIS , the Kurds did the fighting and dying while we supplied weapons and intelligence for the most part, along with airpower. Stuff that left our people a lot less likely to die while the Kurds did the boots on the ground thing. Abandoning them now to the whims of a historical foe is actually insane.
What comes of this will be totally wrong as far as history will record, one does not leave them to get slaughtered and claim any high moral ground. We may well see a resurgence of ISIS, one may take bases/land but one does not kill an ideology and it remains alive and well. Nobody will ever trust the USA as an ally again, the Turks have but one desire and that is to finish off the Kurds and may well open the door to similar actions by Iraq who has never had any desire to have them live either.
I am severely disappointed in this decision, it is wrong and it is actually evil in nature. It is basically a business decision for the moron in chief, kinda like laying off temp workers after the holiday season. Gotta cut costs who can be let go. If saner heads do not put a stop to this lunacy in Congress then the US stands for nothing, time to send Old Glory up the pole upside down. We as a Nation will have lost any moral compass we had left, the eyes of the world are watching.

It makes no sense, and it's a gift to Putin and Russia. Traditional Pubs and conservatives know this is a bad idea. Trumpies will somehow find a weird, convoluted explanation to justify why it's a great idea.
One thing is for certain: Once we remove the orange idiot from office, we have a lot of work to do to patch relationships with our allies.

Look, the whole gift for Putin/Russia thing is a false narrative. Syria via Assad( family) has always been allied with Russia. Claiming this is just more noise in the way of distracting from the real issue, that is allowing the Turks to commit genocide upon the Kurds once again.
This is something that I find utterly moronic, totally opposed to any stated US values and morals. We ,if we actually do this, will be seen as nothing more than a pack of liars, turncoats and cowards. Speaking for myself it is not a view of someone I would consider a friend nor conduct business with in the future. See trump Towers in Turkey for one possible reason for this stupidity.
We allied ourselves with the Kurds, they did the bloody fighting to remove ISIS across the ME for the most part. One does not allow allies to be massacred once they finish the job. While the notion of a Kurdish Natin obviously has Turkey,Syria and Iraq panties bunched one does not abandon them to the #### wolves.
Just where would we be if France had just said screw it , let the Brits slaughter those pesky colonists? Many forget just how valuable that alliance was in gaining our very freedoms.
I have said I would hold my nose and vote Trump out of my own economic interests, now that is entirely off the table. I as a fiscal conservative will vote for Warren if nominated. She is not a wold eyed socialist, may not get the most ambitious goals implemented but she is NOT a frigging loon.

Actually they have been mostly at it since the Brits drew the maps in the 1920's without regard to regional identities. On this issue it is VERY simple, one does not cut and run leaving ones allies to be frigging slaughtered. Kinda simple really. We are who we say we are or then it is time to leave the world stage to others. Those thinking we need to be far more isolationist may well not like the outcomes.

MAGA? Somehow the idea of allowing our allies to be slaughtered seems distincly in polar opposite of that slogan. Maybe put the Kool-Aid cup down for a bit and think some as that always works out better in the long run.

SO that makes their involement in it a wash somehow? In truth the Brits drew maps up acrosss the remnants of their Empire across the globe setting in motion endless conflicts arising out of regional identities that were not considered.

Simple, one does not abandon ones allies to be slaughtered. His total lack of anything resembling Presidential material here could be excused but not this. No #### way in any shape or form will I ever think this is MAGA. We were our greatest when we stood for our principles and moral leadership, in choosing to abandon them we should rightly be viewed with dismay and scorn by others across the globe.
He has certainly caused me as a registered Republican to now firmly say that come election time I will cast a vote for Warren if she is the Dem nominee. Screw it , the banks, Wall St and many large corps need to be taken down a peg or two. She will not get most of overly ambitious plans passed in Congress unless a tidal wave of Dems are elected. I will be fine either way and maybe it is time for a shred of power to be put back in the citizens hands instead of corporations.
A Presidency by Twitter and single handed decisions of a moron has caused this to occur. Never had I thought this would be for my vote but this is the last #### straw in a very large bundle .

Well, you may not like abortion and that is your right but it is the law of the land. I do find most PUBS who are anti are also against tax dollars to raise these kids too, seems kinda stupid to me if one thinks it ALL the way through to the end. So tell me, are you in favor of helping to support those kids in higher taxes? How about putting your name on a list to take any unwanted kid regardless of race or disability without federal money?

Is Turkey a NATO member?
Explain PKK, YPG and explain to me which one has been committing terrorist acts in Turkey, please?
Tell me why we need to remain in local squabbles at the cost of American blood and gold, please?
Is it possible that one of the two aforementioned groups has the propensity to join with Turkey to control the region in subject and stay off Iran and others who seek to control that reigion?
Is it wrong to sell weapons to NATO allies?

Turkey is a recent NATO member ,one that may not be allowed to stay in the club much longer given recent events . Russian missles and now this .
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. One should look back in history to find the aswer to your question skippy, genocide tends to inflame folks. Seems our Founding Fathers were terrorists to the Brits back in the day too.
Simple really, if one accepts the Kurds as an Ally to defeat ISIS one does not abandon them when they put in the time in blood, we certainly did not and to say otherwise is simply stupid.
We will not be selling weapons to Nato allies that purchase from Russia too. Especialy if the systems allow Russia to garner knowledge on how to defeat the F-35 and F-22 among others in our inventory.
Maybe read a bit on the history of Turkey and the Kurds to see if that querry is simply silly first and get back to me.Same with the Armenians in the area.

with or against anyone. They change allies more often that you change socks. The Kurds didn't fight with us to further American interest because they love America, we fought because ISIS is a threat to America and they fought to etch out that area for themselves.
Turkey wants that land for Turkey and doesn't want Iran or Russia to control it. Everybody is about to swap sides there just as what happened in Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan. Let the locals choose teams and we may find ourselves working on Turkey's behalf.
All I know is that teams are going to change and we need to not be involved until those heathen pick sides. We can afford a balance of power but we can't afford to continue controlling land that far from our own.

You don't think it matters that other groups will be less likely to work with us in the future for goals we want to achieve? We used them to fight for us and are now leaving them to get steam rolled and killed. How is that remotely good policy?

One must also remember that it was widely debated as to whether Turkey fit in with Western Democracies as a partner given their Islamic nature.

We wanted to help topple Assad, which was always obviously a dumb@ss idea. We do what we do. Kick over an anthill and lie to everyone about why we did it, then leave when the mess is so bad that lying won't keep the lid on it, we run away and let it smolder. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Welcome to American foreign policy since 1898. (minus WW1 and WW2 which was not our fault.)
