Do you think Ngata could have made an effort to make a play on the pass from Klubnik

Sometime revivers have to lend a helping hand make their way back to the ball. Maybe if he plays a little db there Klubnik gets into some type of rhythm.

He should have never made the throw...

I know the coaches were equally frustrated but they should have their heads examined for putting Cade in that situation.
DJ actually had a good series before he was pulled. There were two defensive holding penalties on Collins that should have been called but were not. That was not DJ's fault. The timing of the decision to pull DJ was a head scratcher.

Not sure. However, that's been Ngata's biggest problem IMO. He always waits for the ball to come to him, and rarely attacks it. That results in a lot of balls being batted away.

Yes. Some of that was on Nagata just like on Ross last year at the pic 6 against Georgia. Nagata just does not have it all together, He does not have speed to get separation.

It was a failure by everyone involved

1. Most of the blame is on the play call. Backed up against your own end zone and down by a couple of scores; you call a naked boot with a right handed true freshman QB rolling to the left? Trevor could flip his hips and make that throw, but very few other people on the planet have that level of elite arm talent. He was set up for failure on that play. 2. Cade has to throw that out of bounds. 3. Perhaps the receiver could have done a better job at becoming a defender on that play, but it appeared his momentum was taking him down the field while the DB playing man was facing the line and had a better chance to make the play.
It was an all around CF that effectively ended the game.

I've been critical of Ngata but I noticed he went over and put his arm around Cade and patted him on the helmet after that play. I thought that showed a lot of class and made me rethink my opinion of him.

That was an interesting play for a couple of reasons Cade saw the receiver coming open and was throwing around the defensive player the D player hit Cades throwing arm just at release making the throw short and allowing the DB to get a break on it. Ngata should have dove into the catch instead of trying to keep his feet The DT made the play not the DB If DT does not hit Cades arm that pass would have been the play that changed the game.

Sounds like you have replayed this a few times so I have a question. We were at the game and I haven’t seen the tv version but on the replay I saw on the video board it looked like when the DT knocked Cade down his head bounced pretty hard off the end zone turf. I didn’t get a great look but I was wondering if maybe that might have had something to do with Cade not coming back into the game?

TV put the camera on Cade on the sideline and he looked fine in that small sample but IDK for sure.

Ngata did NOTHING to help klubnik there. Ngata plays with no bulldog mentality at all and is not aggressive in any situations. And that is coaching. Been saying since september of LAST YEAR that grisham needs to go. If he isn't out after this season then it become obvious that Dabo isn't viewing this program through a lense of reality.

Not a good call for sure . The camera showed a quick glimpse of Klubnicks face before he took his first snap and it looked like he was soaking in the environment. i would love to see him get a legit chance. There is no reason to tip off Louisville and say he is starting just do it Saturday

One could make the argument that he didn't expect Klubnik to make that throw....it was ill-advised.
But on the other hand, there have been multiple instances of Ngata not fighting for balls. He plays soft for a big receiver. So I kind of see your point here. Kind of.

He should have been coming back to the qb, but was running a lazy route as usual.
Unfair comparison, but here it goes…
Nuk Hopkins catches that ball 7/10 times and would never have let that ball gotten picked off.

My thought was the Ngata’s head was turned toward Cade…
Nov 7, 2022, 3:48 PM

…he should have been able to see clearly that the ball was a bit behind him. There was no way that the ball was going to just hit his shoulder in stride. He would have had to USE HIS HANDS TO ATTACK THE BALL, as Jeff Scott coaches.
He would have also seen in his peripheral vision that the ND defender was RIGHT BESIDE HIM.
The answer is, YES, he could have done more to prevent that interception.

No. It was just an awful play given the situation anyway..Like Geech said, don’t ever call a naked boot leg with a RH QB to glove side. That was just a rough throw to expect him to make.
Cade must learn that he cannot outrun everyone at this level…He doesn’t have the poise or confidence yet to stand up in the pocket to make a throw…that’ll come with with time…

Ngata needs to be coached like I coach my middle school kids that feed into a high school program that has won several 5A championships. When we put the ball in the air, we catch it, or no one on planet earth catches it. Ive also coached my QB’s to hit my receivers in the helmet with the ball, and tell them “thats gonna happen all game long on Friday night, you are gonna have to catch it or keep getting embarrassed”

This is the problem with young quarterbacks - he’s not old enough to know he had a third option:
