The last school to leave the ACC
Jun 27, 2012, 8:56 PM
|

also left because they thought they were too good for the ACC and they could make more money on their own.
It did not work out that way and they wondered in the wilderness for decades.
Yep, USC thought they were better than the ACC — Basketball, the NCAA tournament and money were their reasons
Predictions and promises of money NEVER live up to what is promised.
Just 1 example Taxpayers are always asked to pay for new coliseums/stadiums for their professional teams because it is BELIEVED that the new stadium will bring in new revenue for the city/state. IT NEVER DOES and usually continues to cost the taxpayers more money. Then 10 years later they want another NEW stadium paid for by taxpayers.
I see super conferences dissolving within 12-15 years of establishment because it will never live up to what is promised and schools will begin the bickering.
ALWAYS question what the media is pounding in your ear!

I don't think any reasonable person thinks going independent is a good idea in college football today. Changing conferences is nothing like what SCAR did in the past.

Carolina thought they could be a major independent.....

such as Notre Dame - what a joke.
And once the traditional powers in the SEC East get back to normal Carolina will be bringing up the rear there as well.

if the sec in your opinion is going to collapse and sc become a bottom feeder, why is everone who is a clemson fan want to be in the sec and be willing to sell their to do so. i dont think this post makes much sence. have you seen how much more sc spent last year than we did ?so should we be happy to be in the acc?

Referring to my last comment...I am assuming you are a Carolina fan, due to your pulse. If not, then you probably didn't go to Clemson either, and in that case, it would be a Greenville Tech education coming through for ya.

Actually you make the point of people that want to go to the Big 12. SC "assumed" they would be able to get home and home series with all the teams that they wanted to play.
They quickly found out that , they had to fill their schedule with non attractive opponents or play them all on the road.
What makes anyone think that teams from the big 64 will even schedule an account team in the future. It is hard to prove that you can compete if you can't play the games.
In addition, SC fans are gloating about being in the sec at this point, as well they should. But before they get too cocky, they are only there as the third choice of a conference hell bent on expanding.
One other note, Clemson "was going" with SC out of the acc , along with Maryland. When we backed out , it really screwed sc. It is one of the few things that I can think of where they have a valid reason for being so hell bent against us in the sec.

No one is suggesting we go independent.

If SCAR had left the ACC directly for the SEC, that would have been a reasonable move on their part. I just don't see how going to the Big 12 would be anything like going independent.

Hope & Change— I ’ve heard that somewhere

At the time USC THOUGHT going independent was their best move. KEY WORD ——THOUGHT. As the following decades proved.
I may be wrong, but I believe back then other schools also THOUGHT independent was the way to go (the trend). Just like now, many THINK somewhere else is the best place to be.
What happens when things don’t go as planned and the bickering begins?
Super Conferences Dissolving? Why did Colorado & Nebraska leave the BIG 12 to go to lesser conferences? (Conferences the ACC could match up with) Bickering — Texas ain’t sharing anything Bickering among 10-12 will get worse when it becomes 16-20 in a SUPER-DUPER Conference
Just a side note: ND having their own NATIONAL Network has not improved their team It went downhill since signing with NBC. It brought money in, but it did not buy wins

Uhm how do you figure Nebraska and Colorado left for "lesser"
conferences?
......Clemson and FSU should look at what Nebraska and Colorado did and move as well

You think the PAC10 & Big10 were better than Big12
Jun 28, 2012, 1:23 AM

before they (Col. & Neb.) left the big 12?
Both Conferences only had 2 teams worth bragging about. USC, recently Oregon — OSU, Wisconsin Some decent teams, but what has Mich, Penn St. been worth recently One of the reason the top 2 were as dominate as they have been
Big12 was also a major basketball conference as well as football
I actually thought the BIG12 was the best conference overall. yep, I said it — Better than the SEC overall
SEC has 1 Basketball team — My parents WILDCATS!! Big12 could win 11 out 12 match-ups against SEC in Basketball OK, Florida had back 2 back — 10 out 12
Still don’t wanna be in the BIG12 Stay in the ACC & play Football like we’re in the SEC. Like we once did.
Clem., FSU, Miami, GT, VT, & even UNC are capable of playing with anybody. They all just need to play up to those capabilities
Vir., NC St., Maryland are improving. Wake is like Vandy. Probably lose but will put up a fight
Trends come & go — SEC Powers Fl., Tenn., & Ga. have seen a drop in recent years and we all know that will change

it's going to be much tougher if conferences further expand and consolidate and lose opportunities for OOC games. The landscape is a lot different today than it was back then, even in the past twenty years since USuC went SEC and FSU joined the ACC. How Notre Dame responds in the next several years will say a lot about it going forward.

at the time, I don't think $CU's decision to leave the ACC had very much, if anything to do with the school thinking it was too good for the ACC or that more money could be made as an independent.
