I know transitive property is not supposed to be used, but -

Pitt beat Penn State who beat the ever loving crap out of Iowa.
So, by that gauge Michigan loss could be seen as worse.
Also, going forward Michigan now has a starting QB with a broken collar bone.

Using the transitive property is ok to do on TNet

I think I'm the only one that thinks it is meaningless for major college football application.
With a 12 game regular season, one can use transitive property to claim that probably 80% of teams can claim to be #1 at end of regular season.

Their loss was on the road and they have wins against two teams in the top 10. That's why they were ranked ahead of us.

We almost had another last second loss, at home, which Mich. didn't have. And were really at the mercy of a kicker's bad nerves and wayward foot. Let's not get too much amnesia here.

I don't believe that the CFP committee only looks at losses. I only heard that from ESPN, to justify if Alabama loses to Auburn. Michigan did beat Wisconsin #7, Penn State #8 and Colorado #10. We only beat the #5, #15 and #17 teams. But it will all play out when the playoff begins. We will be sitting at #2 or #3, so that would not matter. As long as we play Clemson football we will be number 1 when it is all said and done.
GO TIGERS !!

Clemson let Pitt stay in the game with errors, whereas Iowa allowed Michigan to hang around with errors. But when comparing strength of wins, Michigan does have the better resume - they beat #7, 8 , and 10 to our #5 (as of Tues.), 15, and 17.

Oh I wouldnt say Pitt is better at all. They are breakeven team and we played down to them. I love Conner but he is about all they've got.

They were beat all around while we were just beat on the scoreboard. I know that is all that matters but it means something to me that we out gained Pitt while Iowa out gained Michigan.

Correct, total yards is just one stat and can be quite meaningless regarding outcomes.
For example, we also turned the ball over more - which happens when you choose to put the ball up 70 times and are one dimensional. Pitt had +450 "balanced" yards (+300 pass /+150 rush).

not sure how many took him up on the offer. Harbaugh spared no expense, bought onesies for all, served cake & ice cream...and when they woke up they had WAFFLES!

The "Michigan Issue" will straighten itself out November 26
Nov 18, 2016, 1:13 PM
|

when they face Ohio St.
I think the committee knows that and is content to let The Wolverines' chances live or die on the outcome of that game.
They'll either beat The Buckeyes and cement their legitimacy for the playoffs or they'll lose and fall out completely.

Well it was on the road but I dont think Michigan jumped us due to that.

They jumped us because Auburn lost. Michigan ended up with 3 wins over top 10 teams (Wisc, PSU, Colorado) last week and our 2nd best win dropped into the upper teens.
