2019 too early depth chart (starters only)
Jan 9, 2019, 10:59 AM
|
|
I’m still riding the high if the championship and hungry for more. So I’m taking a crack at our too early depth chart - starters only. I am not including any incoming freshman (except the punter) because I don’t know who will turn out to be a starter. True freshman starting is rare, especially for a team like ours. I don’t know how all the players have progressed that haven’t been starting, especially the ones redshirted this year. So this is likely to be quite wrong. For example, Quinnen Williams for Bama didn’t even know if he would start this year and became Bama’s best player (and biggest crybaby). No doubt we will get one or two or three of those,
I assume the following juniors leave:
Ferrel Dexter Lawrence Trayvon Mullen
Here is what I have:
QB - Trevor Lawrence RB - Travis Etienne WR - Tee Higgins WR - Justyn Ross Slot Receiver - Derion Kendrick LT - Carmen Jackson LG - John Simpson C - Gage Cervenka RG - Sean Pollard RT - Tremayne Anchrum TE - Braden Galloway
DE - Xavier Thomas DT - Jordan Williams DT - Niles Pinckney DE - K. J. Henry SLB - Isaiah Simmons MLB - Tre Lamar WLB - Shaw Smith CB - A.J. Terrell SS - K’von Wallace FS - Tanner Muse CB - Kyler McMichael
K - BT Potter P - Aiden Swanson

CB the second spot is up for grabs. We have some good options there. Kendrick? Maybe.

Maybe even Booth comes in and starts dominating. Looks like a freak.

I like that lineup but I cant help but wonder is Christian Wilkins a trend setter in the way you came to Clemson to play 4 years make the most of those 4 years you can play here. Trevor even alluded to 3 more in his speech. We shall see but wouldn't that be cool to be the school kids want to play all four years

Neither Wilkins nor Trevor seem to need cash ASAP for family. Not all players are so fortunate. I don’t know everyone’s personal situation, but that’s usually a big factor,

Also, it mind be a factor who is in line to get the first pick. It might be worth returning to avoid a team. Probably ends up a Raider. They will suck for a couple more years.

You can argue with some of your picks...

but, that just means we have someone at least that good not starting. So THIS is what reloading looks like. We (Really Are) Too Deep!

Looks pretty close
Kendrick may end up being better but dont see him starting over Rogers
Jamie skalski will start at 1 of the linebacker spots
Wouldnt be suprised to see Justin foster start but be overtaken by Henry at some point

The only comment I have concerns sanctions and appeals for the players who failed testing before the CFP. We best prepare to be without them and hope the situation works out in their favor.
Go Tigers ??!!

Will Galloway be eligible? Haven't a T in the mix like that would be amazing. I hope so. That would be huge. That offense looks amazing. A bunch a question marks on D.

Well done. A couple of things to consider.
I Think Higgins and Ross continue to play the same position so at least one is always on the field. Rodgers plays other outside spot with Kendrick possibly in the slot. #5 and #8 will still be used at the same time some also. I think we see alot more 4 wide next year, especially if Williams leaves at TE.
Also there was a couple of mentions about Pollard playing center in bowl practices. Staff may be looking at moving Pollard to center and leaving Cervenka at guard.
I expect Skalski to start somewhere.
I expect Foster to be listed as starter at DE but Henry to play a lot.

Higgins and Ross will both start. They carried us together on the field vs Bama. They both will almost always be on the field.

I had Pollard at center at first but recalled that Gage stepped in for Falcinelli when he was hurt one game, i believe,

Nice work! But I think Rodgers will start at the slot.

That said, I'm sure we'll see some four WR sets with Ross, Higgins, Rodgers and Kendrick all in at once. How scary is that!
Also, not sure if he starts because of who is ahead of him, but Bockhorst will be in the mix for one of the OG positions. He's too good not to play meaningful snaps.
And, if Lay is as good as BV says he is, he could end up starting at TE, especially if Galloway is suspended.
I also think Foster starts over Henry next year.
Based on our WR depth and who we have coming in, I could see 2-3 transferring this offseason. We are absolutely stacked at that position and should be for years to come.

The slot has to have very sure hands and crisp route running because that is the safety valve on 3rd down quite often. Rodgers drops a few too many balls for that position, which is why I think he rotates in on the outside,

Skalski for Lamar. I really like Shaqs and Simmons athleticism at will and Sam with skalski as the field general and run stuffer. Rogers at wr, possibly an “or” but Rogers 1a Kendrick 1b, not other way. Concerned about TE. Not sure about the open CB spot yet.
