Boys, I am thinking a few more Ewers and Bowman deals will

give an NIL funder pause. Think about it. Somebody in Ohio gave Ewers a cool million plus a not too shabby pickup (you Pawley's people gotta appreciate the pub),only to never see him play a down;and then watch him use that cool million to gas up said pickup and ride off in the sunset to TEXAS. In Texas, I assume he got additional NIL money, but maybe mabey not. And the additional NIL money from Texas booster may now ALSO be poorly spent, now that Archie the Great has gotten an even bigger NIL deal....These big money men or women may soon decide it is not worth it, and just go back to leaving it up to the pros, THE COACHES!
One can hope.

I think the million he got was actually from a Texas based Kombucha company.

Or the Paul brothers, he was the highest rated recruit ever and just monetized his exposure, which he did eat in the state of Texas by being a great football player and they used him as a celebrity in a local market. You know how big high school football is in Texas, super stars are the same as professional athletes, just a legit endorsement deal. Shady would be if OSU arranged it so he would go there, he actually used OSU to be eligible for that deal since Texas has state laws against high school kids getting NIL.

Spud, I can see a shift in how the NIL is paid out to recruits. Maybe, like in pro football, the player gets a signing bonus and then so much per season. Also with a clause that gives the sponsor the ability to void the contract if the player leaves the team.

Yea because the Manning family desperately needs NIL money. I mean c'mon, Arch Manning did not go to Texas for NIL money. You are extremely gullible if you believe that. Ewers, sure it's about the dollars, but Arch Manning didn't make his decision based on NIL.

Really the NIL didn’t play a significant part for Arch? Last time I checked Texas isn’t even making it to the playoffs much less winning the Big 12. Texas’ record will get worse once they get into the sec. Texas doesn’t have a “QB whisper” on staff nor have they ever put a truly great QB into the league in God knows how long. I’m not even going to begin to break down the issues Steve Sarkisian has had over the years. What do you believe was the reason he chose UT?

Sure because the Mannings have a history of going to programs that give them a chance to win National Championships. Ole Miss and Tennessee just scream contenders.

Guessing you must be really young but yes actually Tennessee was pretty dang good before Payton went there and they won a NC the year after he was drafted. Eli was ranked the 11 & 17 pro style QB out of HS from the 2 site I could find. I think more people noticed his last name due to daddy and big bro compared to his tape. Hell one of his visits was to Tulane. Freaking Tulane!

It's pretty common knowledge that had Ole Miss not been about to be put on probation that Peyton would have been a rebel. Kids without the kind of money that the Mannings have are still making decisions to go to schools where NIL is not a huge factor. Clemson has had recruits very recently say as much. If those kids can make decisions that aren't based on NIL dollars, then Arch Manning can certainly decide to go to Texas without NIL being a factor when you consider whatever NIL money he makes is peanuts compared to what his family already has. Arch went to Texas because he wanted to go to Texas. I promise you without a doubt, he could have made just as much money regardless of where he went because of his last name, so not sure how anyone can say NIL is the reason he went to Texas.

NIL money. I said, he got an even bigger NIL deal than EWERS did, which I would bet the house on. My point is that the booster that made the deal with EWERS has to be rethinking his decision. The booster that bought 16 Olinemen for Texas I believe it was, well, if only say, three of them turn out to be worth a plug nickle, will he do that again? And, I wonder what is gonna happen when some booster that ponied up a couple of million for a QB, has his business TANK, and he pulls the plug on payments to said QB. I would be willing to be that the attorney that sued DW, would absolutely represent the player and sue not only the Booster or NIL funder, but also the university. Time will tell. The world is full of Avenattis.

The only reason Ewers didn't go to UT the first time...

is because Texas law prohibits NIL deals for HS players. Otherwise he never would have gone to Ohio State in the first place.
After his very small taste of action last year, he understood CJ Stroud still has two years left and wasn't going anywhere. It was common sense to come back home to a red carpet situation at UT.
Gotta give him credit for fleecing the Columbus boosters for a cool million and leaving town.

I feel like the details are always missing and these big shocking headlines get spread (see Trevor’s bitcoin story).
Bagman deals have been happening for decades. I don’t think they got any dumber at wasting money now that it’s legal.
Without having any real details, i suspect payments are promised and then those just stop at any time unless a contract is signed and terms laid out.

With all the money flying around right now it's gonna be real embarrassing for some boosters when they realize how hard it is to win a natty. For example if Texas A&M doesn't win a championship or even the SEC in the next 3 years this could get ugly. I think in the long term Dabo made the right call by keeping the NIL at arm's reach and not trying to exclusively build a program on it.

I agree with your post; 3 years and 3 National championships to go around. I really don’t see Texas, Miami, USC (southern cal), nor A&M winning a NC in the next three years and when you live in an instant gratification society some these Boosters won’t be so loose with their money. And I personally don’t think you can build a championship team off of players who prioritize NIL, but what do I know?! Clemson, Alabama, UGA, Ohio State, and Notre Dame are the contenders for the next three years barring any major coaches changes.

This post literally makes no sense, Bowman didn’t get an NIL deal to go to Florida, he transferred mid 2020 season BEFORE NIL, and the Ewers deal was through a Texas based company when he went to OSU using his celebrity there. He transferred because he was the back up to the heisman runner up. He already had toes to Texas and was already getting them there.
