People keep pretending this is 2004 when i believe commissioners actually did have alot of influence and big power and yes John Swofford was as weak and as bad as it gets.

But having said that Greg Sankey has very little power, in case you've been out to lunch its very clear TV channels decide who goes where and commissioners act as pencil pushers, yes Greg Sankey is playing the persona of the aggressive blood thirsty SEC commissioner, but the reality is he didn't decide nor lure or greenlight Oklahoma Texas to the SEC, nor did the Pac12 teams get invited by the Big10 commish no.....Fox invited them.

So Jim Phillips although a very weak persona is probably what ESPN wanted to project for the ACC and of course he makes no real decisions either.

Also the ESPN vs FOX "rivalry" is about as genuine as republican democrat........DISNEY corp owns alot of Fox already.....although not FOX SPORTS....some british ukrainian billionaire bought it recently and i think further owned by some Saudies now.......both recently along with time warner were going start a joint streaming sports network called Venu but a judge struck it down

SG is correct that there is usually a billionaire or two sitting at the top of most global multi-layered corps. Nothing new there. One note, I think Fox Sports in the US is still majority owned by Fox Corp. Fox Sports Australia is ultimately owned by money bags Blavatnik. Sankey wields some power in his fiefdom, but as Bob Dylan said, everybody’s gotta serve somebody, and he has his masters.
