Some people on here need to understand the impact of being

down our 3 best tackles (losing 3rd best on the first snap), a starting left guard and another quality backup on the offensive line.

Then also being down the leading tackler on Def, then lose his replacement for the 2nd half.

If we get back 2 of the 4 Offensive lineman, Wade Woodazz, Sammy Brown, Tyler Brown & Demonte Capehardt and we're going to look MUCH better.

You're supposed to say things like Dabo should retire; worst coached team in the Power 4; and if we'd brought in a 3rd string portal player we'd be undefeated.

To your point, continuity is everything on the OL. We were down 4 of our top 10 guys today with 4 playing out of position.

Re: Way to much common sense for a GameDay thread

Nov 17, 2024, 3:56 PM

Yea but it's really hard to cry about milk that another coach spilled before leaving Clemson. IMO that would be like crying over all the recruits that we lost when Tommy Bowden was let go or resigned/quit. I'm pretty sure if my memory serves me well, the 12 recruits that we lost in that HC shuffle were 12 highly recruited guys, but we couldn't bank on what we didn't have, Dabo could only go forward with what he did keep together as we've done from losing out on O lineman that our prior OL coach lost to other teams...

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The "Pro-Portal" guys would have to explain to me how we could have gotten

quality players from the portal who would have been willing to sit on the bench and come in only now when our front line guys are injured. Somehow, I just don't think the Portal works that way.

We're losing valuable recruits, too.

Nov 16, 2024, 4:55 PM

So...were our other 3 running backs injured as well? I don't understand keeping Mafah in all day when he looks bothered by something. Regardless if he is injured or not, do we not rotate any of our running backs anymore? Are they that bad?

Besides the point, I just can't buy the injury excuse for how bad the offense has been. 12 yards in a quarter is inexcusable. I don't care if we took Furman's roster, you can't be that inept on offense when you still have your starting QB and RB and TE and WR's. And just FYI, we weren't playing UGA today either.

Re: Some people on here need to understand the impact of being

5

Nov 16, 2024, 5:02 PM

It doesn't matter if you buy it or not. It's true. Our offensive line isn't that great to begin with, and when they're down that many players it's going to look bad.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Some people on here need to understand the impact of being

2

Nov 16, 2024, 5:05 PM

Yeah, they're injured. But it shouldn't hinder us this bad to the point we couldn't do anything against Pitt. I think you're failing to realize what I'm saying. I'm not expecting us to throw up 4 TD's in a quarter of play. But the offense doing absolutely NOTHING? C'mon now...

It's a weak argument considering multiple games now it hasn't stopped other teams having a make-shift O-Line with backup QB's, etc. still having their way with our defense. Why should a couple O-line guys being injured for us automatically make our offense do nearly nothing for almost an entire half?

2025 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is simple math

1

Nov 16, 2024, 7:02 PM

Pitt put up to 7+ players in the box to sell out on the run. When we are down 3 OL, that will absolutely make it difficult to run.

I will agree to the extent that we clearly did not make any adjustments in the 2H. The absolute ineptitude was befuddling.

2025 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It is simple math

Nov 17, 2024, 10:52 AM

Something no one has brought up. In the last 5 years, Pitt has the most sacks of ANY team in the NCAA. Couple that with an oline that's been reorganized, yeah, I can understand Some of the issues on offense. Did anyone see the UGA/tenn game? UGA reworked and kept tenn scoreless in the second half.

We have, however, gone backwards, offensively. The complete implosion vs louis-ville was mind boggling, considering they just lost to Stanford. I believe our main issue, though, is not the online. Not QB play. Not the rb room and who is or isn't hurt or who did or didn't play. It's our friggin defense. It's a huge relief that we have so much talent, because schematically, we suck. Our D needs to get much better or Wes needs to go somewhere else

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It is simple math

Nov 17, 2024, 10:54 AM

To add.... Why not hire the DC from Pitt?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It is simple math

Nov 17, 2024, 2:39 PM [ in reply to It is simple math ]

Pitt made adjustments at half time. I'm not sure we did. Running Maffah more would be considered a bad adjustment. Not using other, healthy RBs was a bad decision. Coaching. I hope Dabo is asking these questions of coaching staff.

And surely there are question to be asked of Wes. I don't think we put enough pressure on Pitt QB. We let him escape the pocket way too many times. Why?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty sure it was this. The other guys don't pass block as well as Mafah. With the depleted line, and Pitt's sellout in the box, running was going to be a slog. Having Mafah in there to chip a blitzer was helpful even though his runs were just to keep Pitt honest.

We can’t leave Bringstool in to block. Much like Jordan Legette, a great weapon in the pass game but can’t block sunshine with a beach umbrella.

LTs make so much money because they protect the blind side of quarterbacks that are right handed which is most quarterbacks. It's not that their job is harder. They have to better at it because they are protecting a $50 million quarterback.

Exactly

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You don't seem to understand how this particular board works.

9

Nov 16, 2024, 6:19 PM

Over here on the Tigernet football board, perfection is the standard. There must not be flaws or blemishes of any type. There cannot be setbacks, or tight games.

On offense, there must not be drops, sacks, incompletions, low-yardage plays, penalties, punts or field goals. Every drive must culminate with seven points.

On defense, there must not be busted coverages, penalties, long-yardage plays by opponents, or scores allowed. Every drive must be three plays only, and a punt back to the perfect Clemson offense.

Dabo Swinney must not laugh while on the sideline. He must not interfere in any way with the offensive coordinator, who must of course call only plays that make 10 or more yards.

If the defensive coordinator is not named "Brent," he is a failure. A bad hire.

I hope this helps you better understand the special nature of the Tigernet football board.

Now, over at the Tigernet BASKETBALL board ... well.

Happy to be the 20th TU in this thread.

Re: Some people on here need to understand the impact of being

Nov 17, 2024, 4:38 PM

It’s incredibly disappointing when someone points out important information when talking about the Tigers’ performance in a game. You should be like David Hale who talked about our “abysmal O-line play” without mentioning any of the injuries.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

On offense, those losses aren't what was hurting us most.

Nov 17, 2024, 4:52 PM

I'm sure it limited the playbook but we actually do better with the simple, quick hitting plays anyway.

The main problem on offense was running the ball, and I think that had to do with a lack of blocking by the TE and a running back who was clearly injured and not running hard. Pitt was selling out to stop the run but we had opportunities on the outside, which were not taken advantage of.

Something else - a lot of times we run what looks like a read option (the DE is unblocked) but then Cade hands the ball to the RB no matter what. I mean the DE crashes like #### and he still hands it off. I don't know if that is Cade messing up or if it is baked into the playcall but if we could have just fixed that, it would have opened up the run more. In fact on that last play they were so eager to get Mafah (and the blocking was good) that Cade was untouched.

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

With all due respect to you TigerCC and the injured players

If we get back 2 of the 4 Offensive lineman, Wade Woodazz, Sammy Brown, Tyler Brown & Demonte Capehardt and we're going to look MUCH better.

We looked worse vs. Louisville with these players in the game.
