We gonna feel like a buncha dumskis

If the Clemson QB formerly known as Big Cinco reemerges in another program as a bonafide butt-whooping QB with "NFL" written all over him.
Well, we'll all feel like a bunch dumskis, maybe.
But Dabo and co? Positively.
It's a very, very interesting thought because the truth always outs. How he performs at the next stop will be the ultimate - and final - word on what all went down here.

He may do that but he was given every opportunity imaginable at Clemson and he did not pan out.

Him moving on was best for him and for Clemson.
I hope he is successful and makes it to the NFL but it seems unlikely at this point.
I don't think he would from Clemson given how things have gone so far.
I really think he needs a pro style offense where he has an OL that can protect him in order to get to the point where he is NFL ready.
I think he would have been better off in the old days when NFL teams drafted a mid to late round QB as their future QB while the current one was at the height of their career.

I don’t see why… a lot on here said he could be a good QB in the right system. His skill set just didn’t seem to match with what we were asking him to do.
I fully expect someone to take him on board on raw talent alone, and won’t be surprised (and in fact will be happy for him) should he really break out.

Honestly it was probably that they thought they could mold him to be successful in this system. I mean, he was a consensus #1 and the thought was 'he can do it all!'.
Getting injured last year didn't help, he never looked the same after the opener last year. Never like he did in 2020 (though admittedly that was being pressed into duty and there was no film on him).

I’m actually quite anxious to see the DJ saga play out…

IF DJ becomes Tom Brady re-incarnated in 8 months, then, there will be a lot to learn from his time at Clemson.HOWEVER, IF DJ flames out, i.e., remains BELOW his 5* as-advertised-potential, then, that will ALSO tell you something VERY DIFFERENT about what happened during his time at Clemson. And, there can be both positive and negative threads on BOTH sides to “understand what happened”.

I have always said our system was the problem with DJ. Everytime we lined up went up tempo and just called a play and snapped the #### ball we had success. All this RPO audible 15 times bs was not Djs strength. He is a pocket passer that should have been reading the field and delivering passes. Having to read a de deciding to give or pull the ball and then whether to throw it or run it is a bit much. Dj was much better dropping back and reading the defense and throwing the ball. His focus was on who was open. Just my 2 cents but I think he will go to another school that utilizes his strength better and be successful. Now NFL successful not so sure.

I'm not saying that will happen with DJ, but it has happened with other quarterbacks. See Joe Burrow and OSU.

Joe Burrow was never the starter at OSU. He left because there was always someone in front of him on the depth chart. There's a world of difference between a person starting 2 years and not producing than a backup that never had the chance to produce on the field. I think DJ needs an offense that can protect him. He seems to struggle getting away from pressure and sensing that blindside pressure. We were spoiled with Deshaun, Trevor, and Tajh, they felt the pressure and could move quickly away from it. It seems when the pocket moved was when DJ was at his best. He didn't have to worry as much with his feet being planted and had very little difficulty passing the ball while moving. It was when he saw the pressure he would tend to overthrow the intended receiver probably because of panic. It seemed all of last year and since the Wake Game this year he didn't hit one deep ball pass.

Yeah, DJ bouncing the ball 6 feet in front of the receivers, 10 yards away from him, is obviously a scheme problem. Riiiiiiiiight

DJ has all the tools to be a good player. All his problems are between the ears. It’s not unthinkable to believe that he could overcome his issues and be what we thought he could be. That also wouldn’t mean that the coaches screwed up or the fans were wrong for wanted to move on from him.

I was team DJ all year, because he quarterbacked the team I love. I along with everyone else on this board are thoroughly unqualified to second guess Dabo. Even after saying that anyone with eyes could tell DJ wasn't used properly. DJ was never an RPO player fit, he held the ball when he should give it and gave it when he should hold it. If he can take some coaching up from an established QB coach then he still has monster potential. I hope the young man gets everything straightened out and tears up CFB next year wherever he's at but this is Cades team now. We need to focus on supporting Cade and stop worrying about what DJ did, or is going to do in the future.

2 years was plenty of time lol good grief. If he does light it up, it'll be against lower competition like the FBS schools. His ceiling was maxed out with us, it wasn't going to get any better than that.

If you really think about it, Dabo only had 2 choices with DJ. Change the entire offense to a West Coast style to fit DJ or try and make DJ a decent RPO QB to fit our offense. They tried the latter and it just didn't work out. They spent 2 years on it and made some improvements and then regression from Syracuse and beyond. I think they stuck with it because how do you admit you just recruited the #1 QB out of HS and couldn't make it work? They were the definition of keep trying the same thing and hoping for a different result.
I actually expect DJ to land on an offense that better suits his skill set and will not be at all surprised to see him be more successful. In fact, I will be pulling for him to do so.

Not necessarily. Maybe he works in another system but never appeared completely comfortable running the RPO. Time will tell but it’s time to make like DJ and move on. Not many things more annoying than a skipping record.
