I don't have any data to back this up but I think it could be the portal. I usually do a little preseason reading on college football to pass the summer. The last couple of summers it was hard to read into VT. Pretty much the articles were about who all transferred in and who all transferred out.

They just don’t fit well in the modern CFB landscape IMO.
That being said they need a few years of a calming presence to get back to at least bowl eligible. I just don’t see them having a huge upside in the modern CFB era unless they luck into a generational QB which can happen anywhere.

They have sucked for a lot of years. My gut is that they will always kind of suck. The NIL is going to make it even that much harder.

They are back to what they were for entire history before Beamer. They won a sugar bowl in the 90s that put them on the map then had the magic vick 99 season lost to fsu in natty and rode that success through about 2010 and fell off the map.

Agreed. They were trying too hard with that entrance last night and as usual they got quiet real quick in the 1st qtr. They remind me of the poultry to the east of us so much.

Frank Beamer was the best coach and had the best record of anyone who ever coached at VahTech. Yet Clemson owned Beamer 9-5.
VahTech won their first bowl game in 1986 46 years after Clemson won its first Cotton Bowl, 35 years after Clemson won its first Orange Bowl and five years after Clemson won its first Natty.
VahTech won a lot of games playing in the Southern conference after all the big schools left that league in the 30s,40s and 50s.
In the year 2000, following some of Beamer's best season VahTech expanded Lane Stadium to hold 53,000. At that time Clemson Death Valley was holding 81,000 or so.
The Hokies are who they are.

Don’t know why they can’t win there. They are a school similar to Clemson in a similar area. They need a leader who can recruit.
