One thing's clear. We know that Chad can coach the #### out of a QB.
I have no reason to believe that Chad won't be able to do the same thing with Kelly that he did with Tajh.
None whatsoever.

at QB following Boyd's departure. That has been uncommon for us over time. Between Kelly and Watson we have less to worry about for the next 2 or 3 years except for their health.
Plus I read where we have a decent reception for another top 5 QB for 2015 who plays in FL. Can't remember his name off the top of my head.

It's what we have been missing. Boyd imo, didn't have the "edge"
What i mean is.....it just seemed to me that boyd was ok with moving on to the next game. I want a guy who gets pissed off for not winning.
Chad seems super competitive. Boyd looked contempt.

Not sure. I'm not sure if you can fully appreciate the thrill of victory without having experienced the agony of defeat. the utter sickness of losing is a taste in your mouth that you never want to experience again. JMO

I want a QB, and a team full of players who are so upset after a loss they have to pull off the road to throw up at the disgust.

I don't think Boyd is ok with losing, I think he cant stand it. I think back to this years South Carolina game for example, when he had the ball stripped from him while running the ball, he was fighting for a first down, he could have easily just slid to the ground 3 or 4 yards back

I think Boyd had an edge and did not like losing. I think the biggest thing to watch will be if Kelly can read a defense and think on his feet better than Boyd has. I believe this is what Boyd lacked the most. Whoever is the QB next year I would like to see better progressions and zone read skills. If this isn't improved any next year then I do not know how great a QB coach Morris might actually be.

He's a better fit into the Dabo/Chad scheme...

but that's not the reason he'll be better. He going to have a better defense providing him with more opportunity and a better line in front of him opening holes.
He won't spend his first year as a starter running for his life as did Tajh. It's really now fair to compare the two. Tajh is a great man now and I appreciate everything he's given to Clemson and we the fans.

One thing I would like to see more of would be the QB being more involved in the play calling. I rarely see Tajh audible at the line of scrimage. I think that not only gives the QB a level of comfort when he is on the field, it also helps him progress his ability to read difference. It also will get him ready to be a qb at the next level. All of this is my opinion btw. But I think it would be helpful.

involved QBs we had. He meets with coaches to talk strategy and review tapes - pretty uncommon. He works over plans on the sidelines with Morris. Never noticed how much he uses audibles, though.

Cole Stout is an awesome passer. I'm happy to leave this decision to Morris and Dabo. Whether it's Stout or Kelly, the QB position will be in good hands. I still think Watson will need more time even though he starts school in January.

I think Chad Kelly will get a lot of playing time as 2nd QB
Dec 18, 2013, 7:48 PM

under Stoudt. Stoudt would have been a better qb in two games this year, as he is calmer and more accurate passer than Boyd. Chad has a temperament problem like Boyd. He has some growing up to do. There were 2 qbs in S. C. higher rated than Watson - Park (UGa) was rated several steps ahead in Elite 11 last year and kid from Hillcrest (Okla. State) put a whipping on Park's Statford team in Finals. Watson needs to redshirt just like Boyd and Winston, his two heros.

you think Watson is overrated? That we screwed up not getting one of the other two? It seems like a totally random factoid thrown in otherwise.

You're basing Watson and Park on the Elite 11.

That lasts for a few days but why do the recruiting gurus rate Watson better and I have never heard of the other QB so I will pass on that one.

In where Dilfer rates a kid in an Elite 11 camp. Especially since it is probably purely 7 on 7 type drills and Watson is a DT.

but not because I think Chad Kelly is a better overall QB. Tajh Boyd has a great arm.
But Chad Kelly is perfect for the offense we run. Chad Kelly can flat out run the ball. And in this system Chad Kelly will be better.
