Would you say Gov DeSantis did a good job?

Why not?

Am I supposed to keep up with all 50-governors now?

May 4, 2020, 1:09 PM

Can somebody give me their opinion on how Gov Grisham and Gov Herbert are doing? Cause I don't really care.

So why do I give a flip about DeSantis then?

May 4, 2020, 2:14 PM

Do you pretend to have an opinion on a state you don't live in?

What % of P&R folks live in FL? If it's a large %, then this explains everything.

stages of this viral outbreak. The best reason is that I'm curious to how SC residents will be affected by the virus and enjoy understanding how other states deal with their infection rates and especally results of antibody testing and results of reopening businesses.

No, because the DMV is closed with no open in sight. That should be an essential service in my mind.

Re: Would you say Gov DeSantis did a good job?

May 4, 2020, 4:05 PM

So would you say Cuomo fail when he order nursing home to allow Covid patients to return? What do you think about the subway cars not being cleaned until last week?

I'm not whataboutism on you. I believe if cops are ticketing drivers for expired license, expired tags and other state requirement which the public can't comply with because of the DMV closings then I agree with you, he is a horrible Gov.

If cops are passing out tickets like peanuts then I do not see this as an issue. Did the state order cops to stand down on such infractions?

Re: Would you say Gov DeSantis did a good job?

May 4, 2020, 4:10 PM

I don't know if he is a horrible gov or not, but I need to walk into the DMV for something. It should be open with distancing, gloves, and masks. It's an essential service imo.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree.

May 5, 2020, 4:05 PM

Closing the DMV except to put up sneeze screens and train workers is unacceptable. Folks need a reason to get out and paying licensing fees, getting titles to cars and mobile homes is vital to society.

One thing is certain, though, no one is going to die because the DMV is shut down.

after 8 years of Rick Scott, anyone would get a 70% approval rating. it was like having Lex Luthor as a governor.

@MemphisCat No he isn't loved in this state. I live here too. You're delusional. He has a 51% approval rating at the moment with 30% strongly disapproving of the job he is doing since the virus outbreak. Is there anything factual you ever post?

that good old lib math. last i checked 51% will get you elected in every election. not living in florida i do not know much about him but he is one of the ones that grew a set and put his peoples economic lives over the beer flu. seems to me from afar that he has done a great job with the seniors also. but hey, not shocking that mask man carlsbad does not like him.

I don't dislike him at all. He is fine by me. I am just saying he is not loved in the state. Anyway, I see your misery has returned. Have you still never had a happy day in your life? You seem so miserable. Hang in there fella. Don't give up hope.

How many spring breakers traveled to Florida beaches

May 4, 2020, 8:55 PM

from... Florida?

Not sure of the reference to NY on death rate. As the epicenter of American urban life and European travel, NYC and the surrounding area presented a prime starting spot for something like this. Who woulda thought. NY provided us a month-long plus head start on what this thing delivers. What have we done with it?

Sample test or negligence. IMO.

CT88 received two real responses to actual feedback about FL. In both cases, the response was 'what about NY?'

Re: Would you say Gov DeSantis did a good job?

May 4, 2020, 6:32 PM

florida is about 20 degrees warmer than new york in march and april which is why the transmition rate is lower. We also do not have public transportation or any city nearly as dense as NYC. So Desantis is comparing apples to oranges.

having said that, there is also no shortage of hospital beds and ventilators here, so combined with the heat we are able to be a little looser. We are talking about moving back into the office next week, there have only been 7 deaths in our county, but then again it has been in the 90's since mid april. Florida is also the only state in the south on a sharp decline right now.

So I will say he has done OK.

It was a pretty smart move on his part to make Florida warmer than the rest of the country in March.

Re: you mean recongized and acted appropriately***

May 5, 2020, 4:03 AM

like I said above, he did OK. The local governments really made their own rules with regard to beaches and local businesses staying open. We had an extremely low count here because out county kept the beaches closed, which kept outsiders from coming in. it was bad for business during the height of tourist season, but it kept our county under 200 total cases with 7 deaths. Again, it hit ninety here in mid april, and i believe social distancing is enough to bring the transmission rate down below 1 to 1 in a warm climate. People are out on their boats and jet skis, jogging, fishing and doing all the outdoor stuff they normally do, just at a distance.

But to say he did the best of all the governors is laughable. He did not have to deal with the same complexity of problems a lot of other states dealt with.
