Woods block on the TD run.

In one sense it was the easiest block imaginable. A safety comes up to set the edge. He sees a guy barreling down on him who outweighs him by about 85 lbs. Safety makes a "business decision" and decides to absorb (or catch) the block rather than attack it.

Result, Woods gets a pancake.

But, on the other hand, it was a great block. If the guy doing the blocking had been a WR coming in motion and the safety had outweighed the WR by 20 lbs, the safety may have decided to attack the block and at least narrow the hole for the RB to cut into. Instead the hole was so wide, a scout team walk on could've scored.

Bottom line.

1. Great call by Dabo, Riley and the entire offensive staff.
2. Great execution by all 11 guys on the field. (If the OL hadn't sealed the DL to the inside there would've been a LB or DE waiting on the RB when he cut inside.)

It was a different alignment than we usually run

with the jumbo package. I think it surprised Wake because as I recall we tend to run it to the B gap in prior years. I like this one better because it gives the fullback (Woods) a smaller man to block. I wonder if we do it again they will move a LB out there?

Yes, it is fun to have defensive linemen in on an offensive play, but are they really better blockers than backup offensive linemen?

We don’t have a 315 pound backup fullback.

No, TigerDan75, but we probably have a 315 lb reserve O lineman?

DL just look more mobile in getting out there to lay a hat on someone. Just my 2 cents, but OL seem very rigid to me.

I may be misunderstanding what you mean, which wouldn’t be my first time, but PWoo was brought in as a fullback in the power I to block for Mafah. We may have 315 pound backup linemen, but they don’t move like PWoo I’ll wager.

P. Woods spent some time @ Fullback . . .

In High School . . . He is an obvious choice to be on the “Heavy Package” in the FB Position . . . He may even get the call to “tote the rock” one day!!!

Everyone is looking at PWoo, but Capeharts block was the one

That was most impressive

He pushed that DL down the entire LOS
