With Vizzina and Klubnik

15

Jan 6, 2023, 7:08 AM

in our QB room, I feel we are in great shape at QB for the future. I truly believe both will have outstanding careers. However, the chances of both being misses are highly unlikely. At least one of them will be a star and probably both.

I know they need proper coaching to develop them, and we will see very soon if Coach Streeter can do that.

Both have big strong arms. Cade is very mobile and accurate on deep throws, and Chris can move too but Chris is deadly accurate in most of his throws from what I have seen.

I truly think we have a bright future ahead in the QB room for us.

Its odd that you dont think there is enough data to know Streeter is a good QB coach. He has one QB in his years who developed a case of the yips so now you seem to need more data. Thinking about how many high draft pick QBs flame out in the NFL. Take Baker Mayfield for example. Did Cleveland and Carolina have crappy QB coaches but the Rams have a good QB coach?

The point of the story is sometimes despite a coach's best effort the player does not pan out as expected.

that's true, but sometimes your coach OC is non existent. Hope Streater doesn't ruin either of these two like he did DJ.

No one ruined DJ. He was just not as talented as advertised. He through an uncatchable ball at times.

Yes, DJ was ruined.

He was great in the two starts he had as a freshman. He wasn't close to that as a sophomore or junior.

I think his NIL deals ruined him. He had a lot of pressure to perform and that first game against Georgia killed his confidence. He never seemed the same afterwards.

In his best start as a freshmen ND was so worried about getting beat deep that they played off coverage and alot more Zone. BC gave DJ issues bc they pressed and made him think. DJ was good when given alot of time and his wr were stationary or running wide open. He struggles to throw guys open or hit guys as they break on a route. He was never asked to be a true QB in hs, he was the cannon delivery system throwing streaks.

Who's he had to coach? Dw4, Trevor... he didn't do to much with kb. We haven't exactly had any 2 string or 3 string qbs breakout.

Saying, just enough data to say Streeter is a bust as there is to say he isn't.

I agree. When you have 2 generational QBs, one of which had his own outside coach, it is hard to distinguish how much of their development is basically talent improving with experience vs. coaching. Did they succeed in part because of coaching or in spite of it?

DJ presented an opportunity where he had raw talent but needed to be developed which for a variety of reasons did not happen. So for me, the jury is still out on Streeter in this department but now he has 2 great students and we will get to see how they perform over time under his tutelage.

There’s no place for a smart, reas9ned post when TNet’s kids are making faces at their favorite boogey man.

Watch for when the Streeter haters start lambasting Streeter’s coaching as the reason for CK2’s average arm strength.

(CK2 will be an excellent college QB despite not having a big arm.)

Jstone,

I have to agree. I think DJ's problems were between his ears. Those are the hardest problems to solve for any coach, but especially QB. I think it is too early to tell on Streeter as far as QBs are concerned.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My concern with Street is his belief DJ was outstanding

and deserved to start over Cade past mid-season. 2021 I understand. No other QB available. 2022 I will never understand.

Exactly. DJ was a bust but somehow that is Streeters fault. Ask the "fire streeter!" mob to cite any actual improvements, strategy things to fix, etc and you'll get deflection and more temper tantrums.

Because they cant cite anything other "run the ball more!"

Just posted under his front page article. They'll both push each other. Cade gets instantly better simply doing nothing but being one year older physically.

think we all have to remember (sadly) he didn't get many snaps the entire year. Yeah, timewise he got some in cuse game but all he did was hand the ball off.

"Deadly accurate" was also how Klubnick was described

Jan 6, 2023, 8:08 AM

coming in. That is all pretty much like Mike Tyson said, in a rare moment of clarity for him:

"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth!"

Re: "Deadly accurate" was also how Klubnick was described

Accuracy is far more important than a big arm.

When CK2 gets it under his belt that he will need to throw the ball on time … and this especially noticeable on deep routes … his success as an overall passer will soar.

Just like last season, time will tell. There is a huge jump from high school to college and just like Cade last year, Vizz will need time.

I haven't seen Vizzina, but what I have read I am excited about him. I think the two "young guns" will push each other and both will get better as a result. I too question us having a QB coordinator who can develop them; I have seen nothing to suggest that is Streeter's strength. I commented before I wish we could get Cutcliffe to come from retirement as an analyst and take on these two young QB's as a project.

While Cade has been accurate with many throws, his deep balls concern me. We have gotten a few really deep, chunk plays with him - especially to Turner - but I thought we got lucky on some of his throws that are 50/50 balls he launches up there. He seems to throw moon balls on his deep passes. When we play a defense with elite DB's and safeties, I worry those throws will not go our way as often.

We need the WRs to go up and get the 50/50 balls more than they have for the last 2 years.

I agree on the moonball throws. Good safeties are going to eat a lot of those up.

Vizzina will get plenty of opportunities to play early and often if his leaning curve is brief as far as acquiring the skill to make the right decisions.

In a perfect world, CK starts in 2023 and Vizz gets enough time to satisfy himself & to make progress.

In 2024, there is an open competition for the starting slot - again with plenty of playing time for the 2nd stringer.

I think we are in good shape as well, I 100% believe in Cade gee got that ear ability to lead others and make them believe in themselves. He could’ve easily shut down in the OB but that kid just wouldn’t stop. Definitely going to have some mistakes but I bet he’s already working for 2023 he’s a fierce competitor who doesn’t like to lose.

I like Vizzina a lot. He’s big, strong and an incredibly good runner for his size. He also throws a really nice deep ball. This kid also showed great leadership in helping keep this recruiting class intact. Look forward to seeing him in orange!
