Asa Thomas is a perfect example of...

how kids get offers to these good D1 schools then wait a year or two to play for the team and when they do not get enough or any playing time they transfer to a smaller school just so they can play or start. Asa Thomas probably would not have gotten that much playing time anyway but he might have his senior year. I can see both sides of the argument, on one hand everybody the player is going to want playing time but if they are just patient they can earn playing time for a better program and play better teams. You see this a lot where the player thinks they are better then they are and think they deserve more playing time. If you were in his position what would you do wait one more year or go to a small school?

go to a smaller school but a winning program that still potentially make a NCAAT.

This has always been a pet peeve of mine against Brad. Getting to dribble a ball in the last minute of a 30 pt blowout is not developing your players. We play plenty of teams that we could rotate more players.
I'll be the first to admit, if it's not Clemson, I don't watch much bball. But I do know that Dabo and EB both give time to players to develop. Neither lose 80% of their team thank goodness.

I get your point but I've also seen us build great leads we can squander in just a few minutes so I get why he is cautious

That was kinda my story...

I had a ton of offers from smaller schools where I was fairly confident that I could start and/or play significantly as a freshman (e.g., Winthrop, Erskine, ECU, Davidson, Elon, App State, Furman, and Wofford, among several others). However, I also knew that soccer wasn't my future career path but simply a way to offset the cost of college tuition, so I opted for less early playing time in favor of what I thought was a better education.

Smart man. Dabo understands this and excels in identifying kids like you that have character. Many ways one can help a team... then every now and then, a Renfrow pops up.

That was a smart move, and anybody that knows they would never make it in the NFL would an idiot to transfer for more playing time when their education is being totally paid for where they're at...

He made the right call. Hard to develop constantly on the bench, and Clemson basketball is on the rise recruiting.

Recruiting for 5 or 6 good players is a much different than recruiting for 22 different positions...

Development doesn't occur in games. It helps, but development comes from the hours and hours and hours that are spent in practice, the weight room, and the offseason.

That's not true at all. It comes in both. Game experience is enormous.

I clearly said it helps. Game experience helps, but him not getting minutes could have been indicative of his overall development as seen through practice habits, scrimmages, etc.

Yep he wasn't good enough or developed enough yet. He also didn't practiced against the starting lineup and just treated like a reserve while at Clemson. He will have a chance to develop more at Furman. He can go there for a couple of years and end up at a bigger school for his final year if he develops.

Absolutely transfer, especially if it was to a great school like Furman. The whole misconception about the Portal and NIL being the end all be all of sport just fails to take into account the human element and the desire of the kids to play the game they love. In the case of Asa Thomas, he can get an education at a great academic school and play for a really good program. You can't do better than win win.

Exactly! I doubt we will be saying in January we sure miss Asa Thomas. Good Luck to him at Furman where he can play and hopefully do well.
