Trade is a static-type arrangement where long-term markets have adjusted to the trade "settings".

The issue to me is not just tariffs or no tariffs, but rather how and when. He announced tariffs that take effect immediately, but the market balance takes much much longer...in terms of years and in some cases, decades.

Every country uses import tariffs and they are essentially the leftovers or evidence of how the last trade negotiations ended. It's not really valid or meaningful to go back and compare line by line and think you're getting a real view of the trade situation.

If Trump wants to return manufacturing to the US, then great. Set the table for it to happen. Allow businesses and supply chains to adjust. Allow markets to right size. Sell the idea and lead. But that's not what's happening.

Where is the workforce going to come from? I saw a stat that to source everything from the US to replace imports where tariffs have been levied that it would require a tripling of the manufacturing workforce. It's very difficult to hire manufacturing workers now..so how are we going to grow really fast??
