Who's really to blame for the disappointment in Cootlumbia

Their slide back into suck started at the same time the banner went up. In fact, the very first game with it hanging was the worst SEC loss since the championship game against Auburn.
Meanwhile in Clemson we build the Oculus and go 11-0. We better hope the coots don't get wise to the mystical abilities of an oculus adorning your stadium.

There is only one Oculus, there will only ever be one Oculus. It is self aware, all knowing and all powerful. Fear Oculus, Respect Oculus.

As I told my brother-in-law earlier today the slide began with the loss of two key personnel in Cola. Ellis Johnson, DC and a solid coach and Brad Lawing, DL coach/recruiter, both left and USuck never found decent replacements!
Each could recruit and then develop players! The lack of quality S. C. talent for a couple of seasons did not help their cause either! The OBS simply added insult to initial injury with his stupid shortsighted remarks last Winter and this past Summer. They are "icing on the cake" to other programs! As Clemson has shown, teams must recruit and then develop talented depth to compete in college football today. Old Spur never made that needed commitment over the last three recruiting campaigns and the lack thereof caught up with a less capable and prepared staff. The loss of recruits to academics, the decootments, the unexpected transfers all killed the USuck depth and they experienced exactly what one could expect - a losing season of tremendous significance!
Go Tigers!

Spurrier set a flawed process in motion......and then fled the scene as the roof began to collapse....

Honestly I believe Spurriers 2-3 year comment did them in. They had a top 5 class and then recruits started jumping ship.
They wouldn't have been much better this year but definetely wouldn't have been this bad.

and just before the 2-3 yr comment, a top ten class was decimated when half didnt qualify......this coming class will be just as bad.......3 bad classes in a row......gonna take yrs to recover if they ever do.

I agree . I see them being " South Carolina " for at least 4-5 years from this coaching/decootment recruitment fiasco that was perpetrated by the Banner Boy .

IMO---usuck's streak against the Tigers was a direct result

of that 12 man recruiting class when Bowden departed and Swinney was named HC and the next recruiting class--as Coach Swinney and new staff began establishing relationships and rapport with all the HS programs in SC, Ga, and Fla. The chicken faithful are fond of blaming their recent lack of recruiting success on Spurrier, Jr, but the truth is, Clemson started to show back up on the scene especially in SC where, briefly, usuck held full sway on a couple of recruiting classes that co-incidentally had some talent......the reality is that Clemson's recruiting success (which has oddly translated into on-field success) is what has killed chicken recruiting which is bringing them BACK to where they were generally even during the Tommy Bowden years.
Many usuck recruits since Clemson has established itself as a recruiting force weren't as talented as expected, some have not been completely developed, some have gotten fed up with SOS and departed.....and Spurrier's nasty little habit of "thinning the herd" at the end of the season began to leave them with experienced depth issues---and even chickenfans know juco ain't the way to build a program

As in any business, you can trace the problems right up

to the top...and in this case I mean to Spurrier's superiors.
I could sense trouble developing when Spurrier threw his weight around in the Morris' affair, for I believed his own ego would eventually cause them big problems.
That's when the South Carolina powers-that-be should have made clear the parameters of his job by firmly establishing control of the pecking order (no pun intended.)
Their succeeding problems are the direct result of the tail wagging the dog...in this case Spurrier being allowed too much leeway.
His quitting on his team only serves to reenforce my thinking.
