Whos better Penix vs 2019 Burrow

They feel like they are having similar style seasons. I automatically think Burrow but penix really is having a crazy season and is also extremely skilled! I still lean burrow but just curious if anyone thinks different!

In my opinion, that Burrow year was the best quarterback player I’ve ever seen in the college level.

I would like to see what Penix could do with those two receivers. Likely, he would be off the charts.

Great question! Both had great final years. While I would initially lean toward Burrow, I start to waffle a little the more I think about it. While Burrow played absolutely lights out, think about how much help he got from his WR1-A and WR1-B - Jamarr Chase and Justin Jefferson. Those two guys are pretty good . I wonder if they could get open in the Clemson offense?

Having weaponry around to throw to helps a whole lot. I think Burrow had a bit better pocket presence. Its close though.

Penix is having a great season, but statistically there's no comparison
Jan 2, 2024, 4:26 PM

|
2019 Burrow - 76.3% completion percentage, 5671 passing yards, 10.8 yards per attempt, 60/6 TD/INT ratio
2023 Penix - 66.7% completion percentage, 4648 passing yards, 9.8 yards per attempt, 35/9 TD/INT ratio

Stat comparison for 2023 vs 2019 are misleading
Jan 2, 2024, 5:23 PM
|
|
Stats don’t lie, except that, for 2023 season and the running clock for every play until the final two minutes, there was a lot more time for offensive plays back in 2019 than there were in 2023.
Further distorting the offensive output in 2019 was that, with the additional plays in which DB’s had to run after receivers -&- the additional burden on DL to pressure the QB.
We were gassed by the 4th QTR against LSU; we had been holding up through first 3 quarters.
Burrows numbers (as with every other QB, RB, WR, and TE) were inflated pre-2023 as a result of the above.
So, in effect, the stats don’t provide the context that matters with respect to the Penix vs Burrows comparison.

I’m not comparing Burrow to anyone unless that also have two elite WR like LSU did. Those two were day one starters when they stepped foot into the NFL.

Penix has no one close to either Jefferson or Chase in his WR group.
Burrow is great, but DJU would look good throwing the ball to those two 1st round NFL draft picks.
Put my chips on Penix.
