They keep begging me to join. I keep turning them down. Bunch of nerds.
Oh, except for you, though.....

I turned them down years ago.

I thought I should clarify. I actually DID receive an invite to join from MENSA many years ago. It was from scoring well on PSAT, SAT, ACT, or one of those other "non-studying" type tests. I could always ace those. It was those pesky ones that required study that tripped me up, they interrupted all the extracurricular activities.
Technically, I did not turn them down, I just never replied to the invitation. I would have been just as out of place at MENSA as I would have been at MIT, who also sent me a letter inviting me to attend their institution of further learning. LOL.

What is the IQ requirement?
It's not a set-in-stone number, although normally a score of 160 or higher will put you in the top 2% of the population for your country, which is the qualifier. 160 to 179 correlates to exceptionally gifted, but there are probably members who are lower than 160.
Since Mensa runs on members' dues, it behooves them to have more members than less just to pay the bills, so I do wonder if a test score that's close will be rejected when a person has shown interest and financial commitment in becoming a member. It's not like you watch them grade it, or they return a copy to you marked up in red ink.

I only paid my dues one year just so I could get the nametag and membership card. Somebody bought me the plaque for Christmas. I never went to any meetings or participated in anything, so I couldn't justify continuing to pay the money.
For the record, I got in on the basis of my 1989 ACT scores. I taught high school math for a decade and one of my students asked me one day, "Have you ever thought about taking the test to get into American Mensa?" I took that as a compliment, and he was super bright so I figured that meant he was in. When I looked into it, I saw that my composite score was high enough to qualify. So I was smart enough at 16 to qualify, but didn't get my membership until I was about 30, lol.
