1) Clemson football program 2) Clemson fans 3) Dabo
Who benefits from Dabo and his nose in the air attitude towards the modern game of college football?

the portal wouldn't have won that game for us. Do you really think if we had more 1st year players in our system that it would have made up for the mismanagement by the coaches in the 4th quarter?

Yes I think despite the bad coaching job having more talent on the roster from the portal and from using NIL money for HS players, would have improved his chances in every game to be successful.
How would UL have managed without their 1000 transfers and 7th year QB?

Using it starting then would have resulted in some 4th and 5th year players in the field against Louisville.
That may kyt have helped, but it wouldn't have hurt.
As for 1st year players, we had 14 extras due to the 14 portal losses we had since the Gator Bowl.

So after reading what you said, I wonder. Did the 2 titles and nice, long run at the top of the sport buy Dabo a permanent free pass? Does Clemson owe Dabo and should we celebrate his greatness accordingly?
It seems that way to me. I think the AD has a monster in his football office that is bigger than Clemson and has the backing of most fans that make him untouchable.
He will not change, because he is Dabo and Dabo is never wrong. His way is the right way.

It’s a cult of personality and a large percentage of our fan base pull for the Dabo Tigers instead of the Clemson Tigers.
You’ll see people daily in here posting “Dabo has earned the right to stay as long as he wants”, as if he’s a professor with tenure and the $11M we give him a year is really just a “thanks for two natties” payment.

Meanwhile, everyone of us in the "real-word" have to produce for our salaries. Making 11M a year absolutely has accountability associated with it and two natties years ago doesn't change that.
I do think Dabo is going to give Wes the axe though.

Dabo threw more shade on the defensive coaching performance in the past couple days than I’ve ever heard. Heck, he was insisting Streeter was doing an awesome job right up until he was fired.
If Dabo is questioning in any way one’s coaching performance, you’re probably a dead man walking.

Yep. And I think because he’s a big time Jesus guy, that makes him even more untouchable to the pea brain section of the fan base.
I remember when Bowden was fired a man called in WCCP crying because he was fine Christian man that tried the best he could…he was devastated.
My small brain can’t figure out how he is even going to fill out a roster of 105 quality players with a full scholarship. Not the way he refuses to tap into the portal and not with his refusal to bid on talent.
I know I’m negative but what I saw Saturday wasn’t anything I’ve seen pushing 2 decades. That team was unprepared for the cut blocks and the cover 2 high safeties, and that team was thin on defense.
I am pretty worried about the future of the program. The talent is fading.

Please don't ask if Clemson owes Dabo anything bc Dabo is one of the highest paid HC's in the country and he has been paid well for everything that he's done for Clemson!!!

The portal and NIL put an expiration date on every coaches accomplishments pre 2019/2020 or whenever this insanity started.

The old NCAA model was the insanity.
You're right about anything pre 2019 having hit it's expiration date, though. Paradigm shifts do that.

Why do you think Dabo is against NIL? NIL and the transfer portal are totally separate things and I can assure you we have football players who receive NIL earnings.

Moral?

I don't recall him ever using the world "immoral" when talking NIL/Portal. I don't recall him ever saying his is the more "moral" stance on the topic, either.
Either way, if you're from that "Just win, baby" crowd, then nothing anyone can say will convince you that there's more to Dabo Swinney's job than winning football games.

Most fans can't comprehend just how much time & effort
Nov 4, 2024, 1:28 PM
|

goes into working the portal. Lane Kiffin said he hates the portal but spends as much time on the portal as offensive schemes and play calls. He said to win at Ole Miss it's just part of the job.
Dabo has bypassed that effort and therefore cut his workload in half. Hand it to him. He understands his fans & alums trust him and will accept his eliminating the portal. If Clemson's juniors and seniors were among the most talented in the country, this modus operandi would work. But they are not. Dabo's move.
